- So, guys, how's your work going? - I asked Kayaba when I got into their flat.
The three of them are already settling in quite nicely, and Chihiro has also dressed up like a guy. It looks much better already. And the general atmosphere is more like a working environment. Each of the three has a computer, but I don't know why Kosei needs one, he's a musician, not a programmer.
Okay, maybe Kayaba found something for him to do while I still have a recording studio and instruments for them to use.
- Things are going well, we're getting to grips with local technology and realities. And to be honest I'm even a little surprised by the superiority of this world in some things and just amazing backwardness in others. Especially in entertainment and programming. We have to manually write a somewhat usable game engine, as well as a lot of auxiliary software," Kayaba began to list his problems.
- Mmmm, so it's a lot of work, isn't it? - I asked him.
- Yes, and that's putting it mildly. The computers have good power, though, which is good, so at least that's not a problem. But we'll need a separate building with a lot of equipment anyway, so we're relying on you, boss," he said, looking at me.
What can I say, everybody needs money. Well, that's not surprising. You can't make a lot of money without investing. So I'll have to invest a lot of money in them and my new company. I'm not even worried about them mismanaging that money.
After all, their good life depends on them too. In fact, they will also receive a good percentage of all profits. And it's just that the system's binding works.
Although to be honest this forced loyalty from the system makes me a little bit sick, although I realise that without it some of the summoned could do terrible things. And I don't really care about this feature, it's like the system itself has somehow influenced me to turn a blind eye to it... Oh well, that's nonsense, stop thinking about it.
After watching their visual progress, I chatted with Chihiro and Arima for a while, but I wasn't really interested, they were still high school students and we were interested in different things. Now I have to take care of the future meeting with my "relatives".
So far it's surprisingly quiet and there are no global incidents with meta-humans and the like. And we don't have time for something not so global, we'll have more members in the squad, then we can take care of them. And now we have only 5 fighters (If you count Hassan as one person), and not all of them are particularly strong.
I have assigned Assassins to do reconnaissance, preferably in all big cities of the USA, and they have no time to spare. Besides, they are still getting used to it and find out new information about the world.
And now it would be time to start preparing for the housewarming. Although it was mostly Semilia and Alice who were doing it.
Alice has already settled in quite well, as well as studied our new world. And, of course, she also has her sights set on a goal for the near future. Expectedly, she wants to open a restaurant, which in the future will expand into a whole chain.
I wouldn't mind helping her out, plus if she can somehow teach people how to cook just as well, that's a plus. After all, everyone loves good food, no matter what you say.....
When I entered my flat, I saw that it was much cleaner, and just somehow more cosy. I spent most of my time in Semilia's flat, as well as she and Alice. So my flat remained a bit neglected.
Immediately walking into the kitchen, I was amazed at its change. Half of the furniture had been changed, and the kitchen itself looked much more beautiful. Minimalistic, but modern and beautiful, just what I need....
- Do you like this little rearrangement? - Semilia asked me, stealthily getting closer.
- And did you do it all yourself? - I asked her, pointing to the kitchen. Something in my head is not well imagined, as two fragile girls drag furniture and connect everything to the right places.
- Of course not! I've got Neo and Adam to help us, and they're not doing anything," Semilia said with a sly smile.
- Yeah, well, I shouldn't even have thought about the possibility that you were doing all this yourself," I told her simply.
- Are you doubting my power? - she said with a fake frown, bringing her face close to mine.
- No, of course not. It's just not in your nature to do that when you can get someone else to do it," I hugged the girl, saying it in her ear.
- Well, now I'm lazy," she said with a cute pout.
- Aren't you lazy? - I asked her with a sly smile.
- I have enough arguments to deny it," she said, "But... You'd be happy to just lie there all the time and do nothing!
- What an insolent and unfounded accusation!? I am the hardest working man in this house! - I said with a smile, looking at the girl.
- So hardworking that when it was time to prepare your flat for your housewarming party, you ran away saying you had things to do," she said looking at me with a slightly judgemental look.
- Well...I did have important things to do," I replied, averting my eyes slightly. Maybe I really could have helped them instead of going to check on Kayaba, and those I could have just called... No! It was important, and I'm not lazy at all, I just decided to check it out for sure.
- Ed, Leah, someone's here," I heard Alice's voice from the second kitchen. Yes, I have two kitchens. The one Semilia and I were in was more of a dining room, but it didn't matter.
- Leah? Why, it's pretty nice," I told her, moving towards the front door.
- She was too persistent in her desire to come up with a nickname for me, and so I had no choice but to accept it," Semilia replied helplessly. She apparently had nothing against her nickname, though.
By now I had reached the front door, already knowing who was there. Three people, two women and one man, feels a little strange. It's probably Clark, Kara, and Karen. Well, it's time to meet his ex-girlfriend and get to know her "little sister".
- Hi Ed, here we are! - Clark said excitedly as soon as I opened the door. He immediately hugged me, stepping closer.
- Hey, brother! - I hugged him back, then turned my attention to the girls, "Kara, long time no see, and Karen, yeah. My brother told me about you, nice to meet you!
I was quite cordial and welcoming. My brother was cheerful, Karen with a strange smile just waved, but Kara was looking at me with guilt, and also as if she had personally killed my entire family, and several times. Though if you remember the feeling from Ed's past, it wasn't far from that.
- Mmm, hi, Ed," Kara came closer and somehow awkwardly said hello to me, stuttering. Apparently I wasn't the only one worried, and compared to her, I was calm.
- Yeah, our last breakup was pretty... rough," I told her, also hugging her, albeit a little stiffly.
- Yeah... I didn't treat you very well," she said guiltily.
- It's okay. Let's put it behind us. Now it's better to focus on the present," I said with a smile as I showed them all with my hand to the inside of the room.
After all the guests had entered the flat and were seated at the table in the kitchen, I decided it was time to introduce everyone.
- Well, I guess it's time for us to get acquainted, since we don't all know each other," I said, starting by pointing at Clark and Kara, "This is Clark Kent, my older brother. Even though we're not siblings, it's never been a big deal to me, and I've always considered Clark my real brother.
- And this is Kara Kent, Clark's cousin that Clark managed to find, and my... ex-girlfriend," I mumbled, wondering how exactly I should introduce her.
- Okay, Ed. You make it sound like we're at a dinner party, so keep it simple. I've already been introduced, and so has Kara," my brother started to say, sitting relaxed at the table, "And this is Karen, Kara's lost sister," Clark said with a chuckle.
Lost? Clark chuckled at that, too. Still, her appearance was a bit of a mystery. In the comics, she was supposed to come from an alternate universe, but in reality, there was no way to be sure. Maybe she came from outer space or something.
- This is Semilia, my girlfriend and comrade, I hope you two get along despite her slightly twisted sense of humour," I muttered with a look on my face like I was embarrassed about it.
- You know, Ed. If I have a twisted sense of humour, it's weird for me to say what yours is," Leah said, covering her smile with her hand. And she might even be right, but I'll never admit it.
- Ahahahahahahaha, indeed. Ed's sense of humour has always been unusual," Clark backed her up, laughing. Kara just silently glared at her even after he told her she was my girlfriend. I wondered what kind of relationship they'd have.
- Okay, enough about that. Here comes Alice. This is Alice Nakiri, she's..." I started to introduce the girl, but suddenly thought about how exactly I should introduce her. The girl I just kidnapped and forced to serve me? My personal chef? I'd have to put her in a more subtle way," ... a friend of Semilia's that we're helping to settle in Metropolis.
I think that would be fine. The other options sound too-- just too much. This one they'll accept.
- Nice to meet you," Clark said with a big smile. He gives off this aura of kindness that tells me he's the main character in this universe. Even though there are no protagonists, there are a few people who definitely fit that role.
- Me too," Karen said rather awkwardly as Kara just nodded. It was understandable, Karen was in new company, and Clark and Kara might not be used to her yet.
- Well, let's get started then! Alice has cooked everything here, she's a very good cook and she's even thinking of opening her own restaurant. So eat up, you won't regret it," I told them, smiling.
Well, there goes my housewarming party. I hope it goes well, there won't be any scenes, and the criminals won't decide to run away from all the prisons in the middle of the party....
