Chapter 21: Combat Class [2]
As Oliver stepped off the stage, still shaken by his crushing defeat, Keal and Elena exchanged glances.
The excitement in Elena's golden eyes was undeniable, while Keal cracked his knuckles, grinning confidently.
Daniel nodded. "Step onto the stage."
Elena practically skipped forward, her platinum-blonde hair bouncing with each step.
Keal followed with a steady stride, his red eyes gleaming with anticipation.
The moment both stood in position, Daniel raised his hand.
"Begin!"
Keal's mana flared instantly. His muscles tightened, his veins glowing with a mixture of fire and lightning.
His Elemental Enhancement ability surged through his body, amplifying his physical power and speed.
His fists crackled with energy as he shot forward like a comet, leaving a trail of sparks in his wake.
But Elena?
She grinned and simply floated into the air.
Keal's fist struck empty space.
His brows furrowed as he skidded to a stop. "Tch… annoying," he muttered.
Hovering above, Elena stretched her arms lazily. "I thought you were coming at me? Come on, Keal, don't tell me you're scared of a little lightning?"
Keal smirked. "Oh, I'm coming."
He bent his knees and pushed off the ground with explosive force.
His body shot upward, flames surging beneath his feet to propel him higher.
Elena, expecting this, twisted midair and flicked her wrist.
A gust of wind burst forth, sending her spinning gracefully out of range.
Keal's fist barely grazed past her as she dodged, and before he could readjust, she retaliated.
"Lightning Lance!"
A crackling spear of electricity formed in her hand before she hurled it toward him.
Keal twisted his body at the last second, barely avoiding a direct hit.
But the moment the lance exploded near him, a surge of static spread through the air, temporarily numbing his limbs.
He gritted his teeth. "Damn it…"
Before he could recover fully, Elena summoned a gust of wind beneath her and dashed toward him.
Keal barely raised his arms in time as Elena twisted mid-air and delivered a spinning kick to his ribs.
WHAM!
Keal crashed into the ground, rolling before stopping himself with a hand. He let out a cough, but his smirk didn't fade.
"Not bad," he admitted, wiping his mouth. "Guess I'll have to get serious."
Elena giggled. "Oh? You weren't serious already?"
Keal's response was immediate. His mana surged, and his entire body flickered with energy.
His fists ignited in crimson flames, his legs sparked with lightning, and his movements became sharper, faster.
Then—he vanished.
Elena's eyes widened slightly. "Whoa—!"
Before she could react, Keal reappeared right beneath her, his fist rocketing toward her stomach.
"Flame Impact!"
Elena barely managed to conjure a wind barrier, but the impact sent her flying backward, the heat from the attack still searing through.
Keal didn't let up.
He dashed forward at insane speeds, closing the distance in seconds. His left fist crackled with lightning, his right burned with fire.
He swung—a feint.
Elena, realizing it too late, moved to block the right hand, only for Keal's left fist to crash into her side instead.
BOOM!
She spun mid-air before stabilizing herself. A thin trickle of blood escaped the corner of her mouth, but her grin remained.
"Ouch, that actually hurt," she muttered.
Keal didn't waste time. He bent his knees, preparing for another leap—
"Wind Bind."
Before he could jump, Elena flicked her fingers. A sudden gust of air wrapped around his legs, anchoring him to the ground.
Keal's eyes widened. "Shit—"
"Lightning Arc!"
Elena extended her hand, and a thick bolt of lightning shot down from above, striking Keal directly.
CRACK!
The arena flashed white.
Keal gritted his teeth, enduring the powerful surge of electricity running through his body.
His Elemental Enhancement absorbed some of the impact, but it wasn't enough to fully negate the damage.
His muscles stiffened, and his movements became sluggish for a brief moment.
Elena wasn't about to waste that opportunity.
She surged forward, her body propelled by a gust of wind.
The moment she was in striking range, she twisted mid-air and unleashed a powerful spinning kick straight toward Keal's head.
WHAM!
Keal barely managed to raise his arms to block, but the force behind the kick still sent him skidding backward.
Sparks of lightning crackled around his body as the residual electricity from her earlier attack continued to disrupt his movements.
'Damn it… she's so fast in the air!' Keal thought, frustration creeping in.
His strength, his speed, his raw power—they were all formidable.
But Elena's ability to hover and maneuver freely gave her a massive advantage.
She dictated the flow of battle, staying out of his reach and striking from unpredictable angles.
Still, Keal wasn't done yet.
Taking a deep breath, he clenched his fists. His mana flared wildly, causing the air around him to ripple with heat and electricity.
"Elena…" Keal grinned, wiping the sweat off his forehead. "You really think just because you're up there, I can't reach you?"
Elena arched an eyebrow. "Huh?"
Keal suddenly stomped the ground.
A pillar of fire erupted beneath him, launching him straight toward her like a missile.
His entire body glowed with elemental energy, his fists burning with intense flames, while streaks of lightning crackled along his arms.
"Burning Sky Fist!"
Elena's eyes widened. "Oh, crap—"
Keal closed the gap in an instant and swung with all his might.
Elena barely managed to conjure a wind barrier, but the moment Keal's flaming fist collided with it—
BOOM!
The barrier shattered, and the sheer force sent her tumbling backward through the air.
Keal didn't stop. The moment his feet touched the ground, he propelled himself forward again, relentless in his pursuit.
Elena clicked her tongue. "Guess I have no choice."
She extended both hands—
"Storm Surge!"
A massive whirlwind surged to life around her, crackling with lightning.
The wind howled violently, pushing Keal back and making it nearly impossible for him to approach.
Keal tried to push forward, but the storm's intensity kept him at bay.
The raging winds pressed against his body, threatening to throw him off balance, while streaks of lightning arced through the air, forcing him on the defensive.
Keal gritted his teeth. He needed to break through.
Pouring more mana into his legs, he forced himself forward, flames igniting beneath his feet to counteract the wind resistance.
His Elemental Enhancement surged to its limit, lightning crackling around his body as he took another step
"Thunder Crash!"
Elena suddenly dived down from the sky, her body coated in a layer of lightning, moving faster than ever.
Keal's eyes widened—she was coming straight for him!
BOOM!
Her attack connected, sending Keal flying backward, skidding across the battle stage before he managed to stabilize himself.
His body ached from the impact, his arms trembling from the residual electricity still numbing his muscles.
Yet, Keal grinned.
"You're really something, Elena," he admitted, shaking off the pain.
Elena smirked. "You're not too bad yourself."
But deep down, Keal knew—he was at a disadvantage.
He was faster on the ground, stronger in close combat, and his Elemental Enhancement gave him raw power.
But Elena's ability to hover, control the battlefield, and launch ranged attacks from above kept him constantly on the back foot.
'I need to bring her down. If I let her stay airborne, I'll never win.'
Keal took a deep breath, lowering his stance.
"Time to gamble."
FLAMES ERUPTED.
Keal launched himself forward, his entire body blazing with elemental energy. He feinted a direct charge
But just as Elena moved to dodge, he suddenly slammed his fists into the ground.
"Flame Eruption!"
The entire battlefield trembled as massive pillars of fire shot upward, surrounding Elena in an instant!
Her eyes widened. "Crap—!"
Before she could escape, the flames exploded, forcing her back down toward the stage.
Keal rushed forward, his fist glowing with lightning and fire, ready to land the decisive blow—
But just as he swung—
"Gale Step!"
A sudden burst of wind propelled Elena sideways, evading the attack by a hair's breadth.
Keal's eyes widened as his punch hit nothing but air.
Elena spun mid-air and raised her hands—
"Lightning Burst!"
A blinding arc of electricity surged forth, striking Keal head-on.
CRACK!
Keal's body locked up, his muscles spasming as the shockwave rippled through him. He staggered, his vision blurring for a brief second—
And that was all the opening Elena needed.
"Gale Strike!"
With a final burst of wind, she dove forward and delivered a devastating spinning kick to Keal's chest.
WHAM!
Keal crashed onto the battlefield, rolling across the floor before finally coming to a stop.
Silence filled the room.
Daniel stepped forward, raising his hand.
"Winner—Elena Sylphar!"
