Chapter 302: Echo [1]
"Amaury, fetch!"
Throwing a pen outside the window, I yelled.
"Can you just shut up!?"
His vibrant orange hair flowed behind him like flames as he snarled. His cat-like piercing blue eyes glaring at me.
"No," I replied nonchalantly, shrugging as I turned my attention to Elijah walking beside me.
Our classes had just ended, so we were roaming around the building without any purpose.
"What?" he asked, noticing my gaze.
"Are you ready for the trip?" I asked, stretching my arms above my head.
"I guess so," he replied, ruffling his red hair. "Not much to prepare, honestly. What's the big deal?"
"You won't know," I mumbled to myself.
In the game, the whole event was triggered when the Dark Trinity infiltrated the Tamriel Kingdom.
And for obvious reasons, it happened when the students of Akasha were on a trip there.
Their main objective was to kidnap Pasithea as a bargaining chip.
But Elijah, being the protagonist, saves the day by protecting Pasithea.
This entire event helped him win Pasithea's heart and earn the Tamriel Royal family's trust, which helped him a lot later on.
'There wasn't much to this event.'
I mean, this was one of the easiest events in the second game.
Elijah could take care of it... probably.
Hopefully, my interference doesn't turn him into another Ethan.
"Did you talk to Lady Mariam?" Aimar's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
"I did," I replied casually. "She said we could join without any issue."
"Do I have to go, though?" he groaned, clearly unenthused. "I don't want to."
"Don't overthink it," I said, giving him a slap on the back. "Just relax and enjoy yourself."
Or better yet, be ready to help if things go sideways.
"By the way," Aimar mumbled, looking back at Elijah, "how come you are with us and not with your 'girl gang?'"
"What's with that extra stretch in the last part?" Elijah groaned, rubbing his eyes.
"Isn't that what—"
"They're busy," Elijah interrupted flatly. "Last-minute trip prep."
Aimar narrowed his eyes but didn't comment further.
Though I had a feeling he was itching to bring up Heather.
"Amaury!"
I exclaimed, skipping steps to walk with him.
"What?" he asked, clearly annoyed.
"Can you transform into a wolf?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.
"...No," he replied, glaring at me. "Not completely."
I clicked my tongue in annoyance. "Tch, how worthless."
"Now, now," Elijah chimed in, grinning as he patted Amaury's shoulder. "Don't be rude, Himmel. He has his charms."
"Like what?" I asked, glancing back at him.
"He is good with girls," Elijah replied, patting Amaury's back. "I think he is the only one here who isn't a virgin."
Amaury puffed out his chest, clearly pleased. "Of course. I've had plenty of relationships."
Ignoring him, I turned my attention back to Elijah.
For some reason, it stung knowing he assumed I was a virgin.
[<You do give off virgin vibes.>]
'I do not!'
[<How many girls have you talked to without insulting them?>]
'.....'
[<Exactly. Be grateful Christina tolerated that nasty mouth of yours.>]
'I'm working on being polite, okay?'
[<Good boy.>]
I cringed at her teasing tone before focusing on Aimar again.
"What?" he asked, frowning.
"Should we reveal it to them?" I asked, tilting my head. "About that night when we got drunk and did something indecent—"
"We did no such thing, fucker!" Aimar practically yelled, his face turning red as he glared at me.
"Don't mind him," I said to the others, flashing an innocent smile. "He just has a terrible memory—"
I dodged the punch he threw at me.
"You know what," Amaury began, "I always had doubts about them."
Elijah nodded.
"Wait, nothing like that happened!" Aimar yelled, clearly flustered.
"Oy, Himmel!"
I turned to see Carson calling out to me from down the hall.
"Coming," I replied, walking towards him.
"Cheating on Aimar?" Amaury sneered.
I turned back as I replied, "There's a book on animal mating habits in the library. Why don't you give it a read, fuckface?"
"..."
Leaving him dumbfounded, I resumed my walk.
[<What happened to being polite?>]
'Nope, fuck him.'
I hate that guy.
He is a shame in the name of a friend.
By the time I reached Carson, he was standing with his arms crossed, looking distinctly annoyed.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Siersha's looking for you," he grumbled. "Second row, last class."
"I see," I mumbled awkwardly, turning to leave.
"Hey," he called after me.
"Yeah?"
"You're not doing anything weird with my sister, are you?" His narrowed eyes locked on mine.
Tilting my head, I replied, "Why would I?"
"It's just..." He hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck. "I've got a bad feeling."
I gave him a reassuring smile and patted his shoulder. "Don't worry. I have zero interest in your sister."
"Touch her and I will kill you," he replied, slapping my hand away.
I nodded. "Sure thing."
Not wasting any time, I walked towards the class he told me about.
The surroundings were quiet as usual. Many students had moved out of the academy to visit Kallistar.
I pushed the door open and stepped into the empty classroom.
Siersha sat gracefully on the teacher's desk, her hands resting lightly on her lap as she gazed out of the window.
"Was asking Carson to call me necessary?" I asked walking towards her, "You could have—."
"People are questioning our relationship," she interrupted without turning to look at me. "I don't want rumors."
"You talk like it's a bad thing," I replied, standing right in front of her.
"Look around and tell me one good thing people say about you," she replied, observing me with her crimson eyes. "...Except your face."
She was seated just high enough that we were nearly eye level.
My gaze briefly shifted toward her mole below her lips.
Ignoring her words, I brought my left hand close to her face. "Do your job."
She didn't move for a moment.
Then, with a resigned sigh, she grabbed my hand.
Without a word, she began pulling back my sleeve, exposing the forearm beneath.
"What are you doing?" I asked, confused.
"I don't want to deal with you during the trip," she replied coolly, pulling a cloth from her pocket to clean the area. "I'll transfer four days' worth of energy now."
"Won't that affect you?" I tilted my head, watching her closely.
"Not much," she whispered, her canines slowly starting to grow. "Don't move much."
I winced in pain as her sharp teeth dug deep into my forearm.
And the next instant, I felt my entire body shudder.
It felt good.
My breath turned ragged as I tried to compose myself.
My mind swimming with the intoxicating feeling, unable to process the euphoria, and yet I craved more.
But as quickly as the feeling had come, it began to fade.
I blinked a few times, trying to ground myself, and glanced at Siersha, who was catching her breath.
"It's over?" I asked, not trying to hide my disappointment.
"Give me a second," she replied, her tone strained but composed.
I nodded, leaning against the desk for support as the dizziness lingered.
Her faint scent intoxicated my mind as I stood close to her.
I couldn't help but glance at her side profile.
Her sharp features seemed softer, her crimson lips slightly parted as she breathed deeply.
I found myself taking deep breaths, trying to steady my own racing pulse, though it felt impossible.
"By the way," she began, bringing my arm close to her lips again. "Did you buy that dress from the mall?"
I drew in a deep breath as her teeth sank into my forearm again.
"I did—."
But the words were cut off as a sharp pain shot through me, her teeth digging even deeper.
Instinct took over before I could think.
My hand shot up, grabbing her hair and pulling it back sharply.
"Ahhh!"
Siersha let out a startled cry, her grip tightening around my wrist as she yanked my hand away.
I quickly came to my senses as she stared at me coldly.
Guilt crept into my chest. "I am sorry—."
"There's no need," she replied, standing back up. "I can already see how much you value me."
"Wait, I didn't mean to—."
She didn't listen to a word.
Siersha turned and walked out of the classroom, leaving me alone.
I let out a tired sigh, leaning against the desk.
I didn't do that on purpose.
My phone buzzed. I took it out only to notice Mariam's number.
I sighed again.
******
Mariam's office remained quiet as usual.
Even though she spent most of her time in the office, it remained clean.
Not many people could visit her without permission.
Her being the renowned demigod almost—.
The door of her office slammed open.
A handsome boy with long, pristine white hair with a purple undertone walked inside.
His heterochromic eyes—blue and purple—held clear annoyance in them.
The first thing his gaze landed on was a golden crown resting on her desk.
For him, the crown looked oddly familiar.
"Why did you call me?" Himmel asked, taking his seat on the chair opposite her.
Mariam looked at him with confusion. "Why are you so agitated?"
He groaned. "Get to the point—"
And as if reminded by someone, he added, "—Please."
Mariam did not let her surprise show on her face; instead, she leaned back in the chair.
"I have bad news," she said, rubbing her temples.
His expression turned serious as he leaned forward.
Mariam continued, "There is a meeting between the elves that will be held on Lumina."
His frown deepened as he didn't remember anything like this happening.
He asked, as if confirming, "Meeting?"
Mariam nodded. "The Solace Kingdom will be the guest."
"What? Why?" he asked. "Don't they belong to the Kandam continent?"
"They do," she confirmed his doubt. "Apparently, they are claiming to know a way to heal the World Tree."
"That's bullshit," he replied firmly. "There is no such way—."
"But we can't risk it," Mariam cut into his words. "What if they do have a way?"
Himmel leaned back on the chair.
He could already guess she had accepted the meeting.
"Why call me here?" he asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Because Segyal Highbloods will send two representatives: the current head and the future head," Mariam said, rising from her chair.
Himmel chuckled softly. "Dying future head."
Mariam's expression hardened as she noticed something.
His life energy....
Being a demigod, she could vaguely notice the increase in his life energy.
It wasn't much but enough to make her sigh in relief.
Mariam felt free from a huge burden, yet she also felt fear...of him becoming like Ragnar.
"What?" Himmel asked as she kept looking at him in a daze.
She shook her head. "I have made a list of some books you need to read."
Himmel's mood plummeted. "Why?"
"Because you are going to represent the elves in the meeting," she replied, smiling at him.
She picked up the crown placed on the desk.
"I don't want to," he groaned.
"You don't have a choice." With a small, proud smile, she placed the crown gently on his head.
It undeniably suited him.
"You're Himmel Train Segyal," she said firmly. "Heir to the Segyal Highbloods."
