Chapter 21: The beginning of a legacy
Ezekiel felt his entire world shatter as he stared at the heavily damaged floor around him. A sickening feeling sank deep into his body as he kept on staring at the large amounts of debris before him while focusing on the area where his parents had last been.
It was now empty. Not a single trace of his parents was left at the location before him. The two faces that had taken care of him since his reincarnation flashed before his eyes, their expression filled with an unprecedented amount of warmth. A warmth he hadn't felt even in his last life.
Ezekiel wasn't stupid, he could easily spot the blackened bones of two people, and judging by the bone structure, the remains most definitely belonged to Mad Dog and Thorn. He didn't believe that his parents who were much stronger than the two would have their bodies burnt right down to the ashes.
And more importantly, his father's last words assured him of their safety. Even more reassuring was that he confirmed that the GPS within his parent's communication devices that he had created was still active about 1 second after the explosion before going out of range.
That's right. Out of range. The devices hadn't been destroyed, since he knew that if that had happened, it would immediately notify him of the event. Which meant that his parents had escaped.
But Ezekiel was still angry. He was angry that the Blood Rose organization had arrived to disrupt the happy days of his family. He was angry that his parents hadn't brought him along.
He knew the reason for this - they felt they didn't want their child to experience a life where they were constantly on the run. After all, C rank wasn't the highest level of strength in the world. And Blood Rose was sure to have members much stronger than Mad Dog, Thorn and Hurricane.
But Ezekiel didn't care about this. He had lived in far worse conditions. He merely wished to be around his parents.
But most importantly he was angry that a group of people had actually been hunting his parents, forcing an unsettling pressure onto his mother and father. Nothing pissed him off more than this. And it made the flame within him born at an even hotter level. He wished for strength more than ever at the moment.
He wished to have the kind of strength that would allow his parents to peacefully live their lives with no pressure or hidden enemies breathing down their necks.
"Ez, are you okay?" Vahn walked up to his friend and placed an arm on his shoulder.
Ezekiel paused, unclenching his fist and easing his tensed expression before sighing. "I'm still too weak." He glanced at the horizon and frowned. "That bastard didn't even leave a message for me. What adult male chooses to play hide and seek with his son."
Yuri caught the meaning of his words and widened her eyes. "You mean uncle and aunt are…"
"Yes, they're still alive. Though I have to go through the trouble of finding them now." He smiled wearily while disengaging his Battle suit and storing it in his Dimensional ring. Glancing at the destroyed neighborhood, a sigh left his lips. "Let's help the people around here."

"Master Ezekiel."
A fairly aged man called out to the resting Ezekiel, who rested against one of the larger debris that had been created from the ruins of his former home. He gazed at his young master with a saddened smile on his face, he didn't seem too old though some regions of his hair had already begun greying over.
"William." The mechanic smiled wearily as he glanced at his family butler. "How's the civilian relief plan going?"
"It's going well, young master." The butler nodded his head. He then stared at the scattered debris all around him with a helpless expression. "But the house. If we were to help the people recover completely, we would barely have enough starls left to rebuild the family home."
Ezekiel sighed and simply shrugged his shoulders. "There were only a few people affected by the explosion. It shouldn't be that bothersome. Plus I'll be selling all the spare equipment at my workshop. The money will go to keeping the city's affairs the same. I trust you to manage my parents' city well, William."
The butler nodded heavily, a solemn expression on his face. "I will try my best, young master. I hope the academy accepts you well."
Ezekiel sighed lightly, getting up before looking around once more to what had once been his home. "I hope you write to me though. Take good care of my home for me, will you?
With that, he walked away, Vahn and Yuri treading behind him. Their next course of action was as Ezekiel had said.
He sold the land where his workshop was situated. Of course, he had thoroughly collapsed the underground structure so that the markings of his work there would never be found by anyone. He also sold mana-related inventions he had made, under the guise of a fake Forger.
In total, he had earned about 10 million starls. Per his instructions, 80% of that went to his family's vault so as to finance the city's future affairs while it was run by William.
Soon, Ezekiel, Vahn and Yuri could be seen standing atop the city walls staring blankly at the city which had housed them for the past 16 years, taking in its serene yet slightly chaotic sight.
"We'll be back, right?" Vahn couldn't help but ask as he stared downwards at the partially fixed crater at the center of the city, watching as the multiple men worked seriously to fix the hole made in the ground, sweat soaking their clothes wet.
"Of course." Ezekiel answered without hesitation, his eyes glued at the scene for a long while before he finally turned around. "Let's go. We have a ride to catch."
And so they left, off to establish their legacy in the world of Taia.
