Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Turning the Tables!
Qian Yu felt no fear. Although numerous guards were stationed here, the most formidable among them were merely Great Soul Masters.
Gaining entry into the forest posed little challenge. And if anyone dared to block his passage, he wouldn't hesitate to force his way in—no one could stand against his might.
Just then, a voice interrupted his thoughts from behind.
"Little friend, want to team up with us? We have a valid warrant!"
Four or five men approached him with practiced ease. They were members of the Yamaguchi Mercenary Group—the very group that had schemed against him earlier.
Their burly leader grinned as he addressed Qian Yu, "Tell us, what is your Martial Soul? How about joining our group?"
A skinny man at his side added, "The Soul Hunting Forest is perilous. With us by your side, you'll be much safer."
A faint smile tugged at Qian Yu's lips. He hadn't anticipated them approaching so brazenly.
He could clearly see through their ulterior motives, yet their unexpected overture could serve his own ends. Adopting an innocent tone, he replied, "Big brothers, my Martial Soul is Support-Type. Are you sure you can handle someone like me?"
The burly man clapped him on the shoulder and replied, "Of course, little brother. Join us, and we'll even help you secure a suitable Soul Ring."
In their minds, Qian Yu was an easy mark—a naive child with precious valuables waiting to be snatched up as soon as they ventured deeper into the forest.
Seizing the opportunity, the burly man produced a warrant and flashed it to the guard. "Shall we proceed now?" he asked with a self-satisfied smile.
The guard inspected the document and, nodding, allowed them passage. With that, Qian Yu and the Yamaguchi Mercenary Group stepped into the forbidding depths of the Soul Hunting Forest.
Qian Yu led the way while the mercenaries murmured conspiratorially behind him. "Did you notice that kid's Space-type Soul Guidance Device?" one whispered.
"Exactly as we suspected—this kid is an easy target," another added, his voice laced with greed.
"They're going to make a killing off him!" came a third remark.
Despite overhearing every word, Qian Yu maintained his serene composure. He walked steadily forward, his eyes scanning the dense, misty undergrowth.
Every snap of a twig or rustle of leaves was absorbed by his heightened senses, yet he showed no outward sign of concern.
Meanwhile, Tang San and his teacher, the Grandmaster, had also entered the forest. The Grandmaster preferred observation over haste.
His previously weary eyes suddenly sparked with focused energy.
Bringing his hands together at his chest, he then spread them apart deliberately. "Come out, Luo San Pao," he commanded softly.
In a burst of light purple energy, a wisp of Soul Power separated from the Grandmaster's palms. Tang San felt the surge of spiritual energy as, before them, a creature materialized.
It resembled a cross between a dog and a pig, measuring over 1.5 meters in length, with a girthy, rounded body covered in light purple fur. Its small ears drooped adorably, and its large, deep blue eyes shone with gentle curiosity.
As it bounded forward, its plump form swayed comically, and it promptly rubbed its head against the Grandmaster's leg in a display of eager affection.
Two luminous halos—each clearly a hundred-year Soul Ring—glowed around the Grandmaster's feet. "Xiao San, do you see my Martial Soul?" he said proudly. "This is Luo San Pao. You may call him San Pao."
Luo San Pao regarded Tang San with those expressive eyes, as if acknowledging his role as protector and companion.
"Teacher, is this really your Martial Soul?" Tang San asked in amazement. "I thought Beast Martial Souls usually manifest by possessing a creature's body. What makes yours so different?"
The Grandmaster sighed softly, a trace of bitterness in his voice. "My Martial Soul is a Mutated Martial Soul, Xiao San.
I once explained that some Martial Souls deviate from the norm. Unfortunately, my mutation has stunted my progress—no matter how hard I try, my Soul Power will never break past level thirty in this lifetime.
I can only study Martial Souls theoretically."
Determined, he added with a hopeful smile, "But we must press on. Today, we'll do our best to locate a suitable Martial Soul for you!"
"Thank you, Teacher!" Tang San replied eagerly.
Back with Qian Yu and the mercenary group, as they ventured deeper into the forest, the atmosphere grew more sinister. Soon, the Yamaguchi Mercenary Group halted abruptly.
Noticing their stoppage, Qian Yu inquired, "Why have we stopped?"
At that moment, several mercenaries advanced to surround him, their true intentions now laid bare. The burly leader burst into mocking laughter.
"Kid, that ring on your hand—it must be a Space-type Soul Guidance Device, right?" he taunted.
Qian Yu's expression remained innocent as he answered in a childish tone, "Mm-hmm."
"Then since we helped you gain entry into this forest, it's only fair that you hand it over," the burly man sneered.
"Yes, you owe us for our help. Surely you can spare it?" the skinny man added, his voice dripping with greed.
A slight smirk curled the corners of Qian Yu's mouth. With a swift change in demeanor, his tone turned icy.
"Do you honestly think I'd be foolish enough to use you merely to enter this forest?"
His gaze swept across the would-be assailants, his eyes cold and unyielding.
The sudden shift left the group dumbfounded. Their confident smiles faded into shocked silence as Qian Yu's calm authority filled the clearing.
Every muscle in his body tensed, and the forest itself seemed to hold its breath.
In that charged moment, it became unmistakably clear that the tables had turned—and those who once thought themselves predators now faced a threat far beyond their imagining.
