Chapter 20: THIS COULD BE ANNOYING

...

The wind blew gently, caressing my face and bringing a temporary relief to the fatigue that dominated my body after the late afternoon run. The sky was tinged with shades of gold and orange, and the tranquility of the moment was almost palpable. Sitting on a bench in the park, surrounded by the distant sound of laughter and footsteps, I allowed myself to appreciate the silence.

However, no matter how much I wanted to lose myself in the serenity, my attention remained fixed on the boy beside me.

He seemed immersed in his own thoughts, his expression serious, as if pondering something important. It was curious. Although I didn't know much about him, his name was already well-known at Cube. First place in the anti-monster test, a figure who always drew attention, not only for his beauty that seemed to come from a fairy tale, but also for how close he appeared to be to figures like Yoo Yeonha, Chae Nayun, and Kim Suho.

I glanced at him sideways, wondering if I should say something. Normally, I would avoid any unnecessary interaction, but the silence seemed inconvenient.

"The afternoon is very pleasant!"

My voice sounded hesitant, almost shy, breaking the silence that had previously reigned.

He raised his eyes in my direction, and for a moment, I thought I caught something in his expression, perhaps surprise or curiosity. But before I could think anything more, he simply stood up without saying a word and began to walk away, as if my presence were irrelevant.

I sat there, staring at his back as he walked away, feeling a mix of embarrassment and disbelief.

"..."

"I think I just got ignored!"

I murmured to myself, feeling my cheeks burn. I didn't know whether to laugh at the situation or shrink in shame. Still seated, I looked at the sky again, trying to convince myself that it meant nothing.

...

While Rachel tried to understand why she had been ignored, Theo, the target of her doubts, was catatonic from what he had just seen.

"What was that?"

Above the clouds, hovering over Cubo, Theo stared at the orange horizon before him.

"That thing... No, that being..."

Moments before, when Rachel unexpectedly spoke to him, Theo noticed a strange fluctuation of energy above Cube, precisely in the initial layers of the atmosphere. Using his flight magic, he went to the location and encountered a fissure in space, something that looked more like a crack in an invisible mirror, with shimmering edges and a spectral glow that pulsed irregularly.

After approaching and looking inside, with his eyes glowing red, he saw something.

Inside the fissure, an entity of unknown appearance floated in the void as if that place were its natural home. Its body was ethereal, translucent like blown glass, but covered by a veil of starlight that pulsed in shades of gold and violet.

As soon as that thing realized it was being observed, the entity bent and then, without warning, simply disappeared, taking the fissure in space with it and leaving Theo floating, with more questions than answers.

"I shouldn't have thought about anything; this is what happens when you overestimate yourself."

Thanks to his excellent thoughts that he would defeat anyone, someone he completely didn't know appeared.

Perhaps Yeonha was right this time.

"Hah! Now it's gone, whatever that thing is, apparently it doesn't want to show up, yet."

It was no use thinking too much; if that thing planned to do something to him or to this world, it probably would have done so already.

"But that doesn't mean I can lower my guard. I know that against me, it couldn't do anything, but with the other people in this world, it's a different story."

Yes, what you heard was correct; Theo could feel and measure the power of another being just by looking, after all, he had also inherited the ability to see how deep someone's abyss was.

Note: In "Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha", the "abyss of a being" refers to the depth or deepest dimension of an individual's essence. This "abyss" is the manifestation of strength, ability, experience, knowledge, existence, and other characteristics. It reflects their inner strength, desires, will, determination, and identity.

So for those who can observe this "abyss," it is easily possible to measure the overall power of another individual, as Theo did.

"Let's go back; if I'm lucky, that princess might still be there."

It would be a lie to say that Theo didn't want to be there sitting and talking with Rachel instead of coming here; after all, who would want to miss the chance to talk to a girl as beautiful, oops, as incredible as her?

After teleporting back to a place where there were no cameras or anything that could see him using his abilities, Theo passed by a vending machine and bought two cans of soda.

Back at the park surrounding the three skyscrapers, he looked at a tree that stood out from the others.

"Good thing she's still here... It would be sad if I had ruined our first interaction like this."

Approaching the bench, Rachel, who was still sitting on it, raised her blue eyes to meet the same boy who had ignored her earlier.

"Sorry for leaving like that! I had to solve a small problem."

Without waiting for her response, he sat down and offered the can of soda to the girl who was still staring at him, catatonic.

"Here! After some exercise, it's good to stay hydrated."
