Chapter 85
“Master! Something just appeared!”
“Kukukukueeeee!”
Eve and Kaiser were on high alert.
I carefully observed the creature that had appeared before me.
It had a body the size of a lion with three heads, all covered in white fur. I had seen it before in the Academy’s monster encyclopedia.
“An A-rank monster… a Cerberus.”
“GURURURU…”
Six eyes glared at me, drooling, as if I were nothing more than prey. Their piercing gaze made me frown.
“Seriously… just how twisted is the mastermind behind this dungeon?”
This thing was probably the boss of the dungeon.
Among all the monsters I had defeated earlier, none had the presence of a boss.
Dungeon bosses always had a higher rank than normal monsters.
This Cerberus, usually classified as A-rank, would have its strength elevated to an S-rank level as the dungeon’s ruler.
“W-what even is this dungeon?!”
“Ku-Kuee~!”
Even Eve and Kaiser were starting to waver.
Realizing the situation was getting dangerous, I prepared to order a retreat, but—
“GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
“Whoa!”
The Cerberus kicked off the ground and lunged at me with an arrow-like speed.
—CLANG—
I instinctively drew my twin short swords and blocked the attack.
“T-too strong…!”
It was the greatest force I had ever felt pushing against me, forcing me back several meters before I could finally stop its momentum.
I attempted to counterattack, but—
“GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
The two heads not engaged with my swords turned toward me, opening their mouths. I could see fire in one and ice in the other.
A breath attack at point-blank range. I braced myself for the impact—
“N-not happening!”
“Kuee!”
Eve snapped back to her senses and cast a spell. At the same time, Kaiser flapped his wings, creating a vacuum slash aimed at the Cerberus.
“GURURUU!”
Judging the attacks to be too dangerous, the Cerberus swiftly retreated out of range.
“H-how dare you attack Master?!”
“Guegguee!”
But Eve and Kaiser were enraged. Having been shaken earlier, they had now completely forgotten their fear and went on the offensive.
“You’ll regret attacking Master! Die with regret!”
Magic attacks flew wildly, fiercer than before.
Dodging a massive fireball, the Cerberus found itself impaled by earthen spikes erupting from the ground. Just as it was launched into the air, Kaiser rushed in, tearing into it.
Eventually, the Cerberus crashed to the ground, but—
“Haa… haa… So stubborn. As expected of a dungeon boss.”
“Kuheh… kuheh…”
Eve and Kaiser were panting, exhausted.
Even after taking their full-powered attacks, the Cerberus still stood. This was proof of why encountering an S-rank monster usually meant certain death.
“GUGUGU…”
Having endured, the Cerberus now seemed certain of its victory. It turned toward me and grinned.
And then—
“Fine. Bring it on.”
“GUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
The Cerberus lunged again, not as fast as before, but still with considerable speed and power.
If those sharp fangs or claws landed on me, even I wouldn’t escape unscathed.
However—
“Alright, time to swing this again after a while.”
Before I knew it, something was in my hands.
“GAAAAAAAAAA—… Aaa?”
Mid-roar, the Cerberus faltered. But once airborne, it could only go forward.
“Alright, time to show off my new weapon!”
I gripped the newly forged metal-coated log—Home Run No.1—imbued with Wind Magic Rank II from a dungeon core.
With a massive swing—
“KYAAAN!!!”
The Cerberus let out a pitiful yelp like a puppy as it was sent crashing into the ceiling.
“Yep, choosing wind magic was the right call. The levitation makes it easier to swing, and the Velite coating increased its hardness. The added range is a bonus.”
I was exhausted beyond belief and didn’t want to swing it anymore, but knocking out an S-rank monster with a home run was an opportunity too rare to pass up.
“The drop items include a magic core, Cerberus Fangs, and Cerberus Claws.”
“That sounds like excellent weapon material.”
For a monster to withstand such attacks, its remains must hold immense value as crafting materials.
“Alright, this time for sure, nothing else should happen. Even I’m reaching my limit. Let’s head back.”
Even if the battle had been brief, fighting an S-rank monster was exhausting.
Eve and Kaiser were clearly drained as well. Now was the perfect time to retreat—
“Master, I have something to report.”
But it seemed the mastermind behind this dungeon was determined to push me to my absolute limits.
“With the appearance of the last boss, we’ve confirmed something. This is a Dual Dungeon.”
If I ever met this mastermind, I was definitely going to send them flying with a home run.
“A hidden dungeon can be accessed from where the last boss appeared…”
Upon hearing Eve’s words, my body swayed with fatigue.
