Reincarnated With a Million Multiplies System

Chapter 15: Beneath the Surface

The night had settled over Void Horizon like a blanket of quiet, but Yang Yu could feel the storm brewing just beneath its calm exterior. The events of the past few weeks had stirred the waters, and the repercussions of his decisions were now becoming painfully clear. The alliance with the Jade Serpent Sect, once a source of potential strength, had soured faster than expected. The subtle manipulations, the promises made behind his back, all pointed to the same conclusion: the Jade Serpent Sect had underestimated him.

Yang Yu's mind was restless, his thoughts consumed by the weight of leadership. He knew that the greater the power he acquired, the more it would attract those who sought to manipulate it. The Jade Serpent Sect was not the only threat to Void Horizon; the seeds of internal strife had already been sown within the sect itself. He had seen it in the glances exchanged between disciples, the whispered words in the corners of the camp. Ambition, the very thing that had driven him to rise above his humble beginnings, was now threatening to unravel the unity that had once held the sect together.

As he sat in his chambers late into the night, the flickering light of the lantern casting shadows on the walls, the door to his room creaked open. Zhen Xiu entered, his face as impassive as ever, though there was a certain tension in his eyes that Yang Yu could not ignore.

"Master, we need to talk," Zhen Xiu said quietly, his tone laced with concern.

Yang Yu nodded, gesturing for him to sit. "What is it?"

Zhen Xiu took a seat across from him, folding his hands in his lap. "There are murmurs among the disciples. Whispers of rebellion. Some believe that your leadership is no longer the path to the future. There are those who are… beginning to question your decisions."

Yang Yu's eyes narrowed, and he leaned forward, his gaze hardening. "I thought the unity forged in battle would be enough to hold them together."

Zhen Xiu's gaze softened slightly. "Unity forged in battle is fragile, Master. Victory is often fleeting, and as the sect grows in strength, so do the ambitions of its members. They want power, and power breeds conflict. Some of our disciples think they are more capable than they truly are."

Yang Yu remained silent for a moment, considering his disciple's words. He had always known that leadership would require more than just strength and resolve. He had seen it in the past: how quickly those who had once been loyal could turn against their leader when their own ambitions were threatened. But this time, it was different. This was not just a few rogue disciples seeking power—it was the very fabric of Void Horizon beginning to fray. The cracks had appeared too soon, and if he did not act decisively, they could destroy everything he had built.

"We cannot afford to be divided," Yang Yu said, his voice cold and resolute. "If these whispers continue, they will become a threat far greater than any external enemy."

Zhen Xiu nodded. "We must deal with the source of this unrest before it spreads. There are those among the disciples who have begun to form factions, some openly defying your orders. They are emboldened by their own strength, and they believe that they should have more influence in the sect's direction."

Yang Yu's eyes flickered with cold fury. He had been prepared for many things, but this betrayal, this challenge to his authority, was something he could not let slide. The consequences of inaction were too great. If the disciples were allowed to fracture, the sect would crumble from within, leaving them vulnerable to their external enemies.

"I'll deal with this," Yang Yu said, his voice tight with anger. "We can no longer afford to let this situation fester. It is time for a purge."

Zhen Xiu's expression was unreadable. "A purge will not be easy, Master. We will lose more than just a few dissidents. There will be unrest, and the others will fear for their place in the sect."

Yang Yu's gaze turned steely. "Better a few lost now than the entire sect torn apart later. We cannot let disunity take root. I'll have those responsible dealt with quickly. It may be harsh, but it is the only way."

Zhen Xiu did not argue. He knew that Yang Yu's decisions were always guided by cold pragmatism. The loss of a few disciples, while painful, would be far less damaging than a full-blown rebellion within their ranks. If the rot was allowed to spread, it would consume everything.

"The Jade Serpent Sect…" Zhen Xiu began cautiously, "Do you still intend to honor the alliance with them?"

Yang Yu's hand clenched into a fist as he thought about the Jade Serpent Sect's betrayal. Their emissaries had made it clear that they were trying to manipulate the sect from the inside out, offering false promises of power while secretly undermining his control. They were a threat—one he could not ignore.

"No," Yang Yu said firmly. "The Jade Serpent Sect has outlived its usefulness. They crossed a line when they began to act behind our backs. I'll cut them off, and if they try to resist, we'll deal with them as we would any other enemy."

Zhen Xiu nodded. "I'll begin making the arrangements, Master. We'll move quickly before they can rally any support."

Yang Yu rose from his chair, his eyes cold and determined. "Do it. And make sure the disciples understand the consequences of betraying this sect. Let them know that those who seek power through treachery will not be tolerated."

The room fell into silence as Zhen Xiu left to carry out the orders. Yang Yu remained standing by the window, his mind racing with the implications of his decisions. The purge would not be easy. It would alienate some of the disciples, and there would be fallout. But it was necessary. He could not allow the seeds of rebellion to take root in his sect. He had worked too hard, and sacrificed too much, to let it all slip away now.

As the days passed, the tension within Void Horizon continued to mount. The whispers of dissent grew louder, and more disciples began to openly defy Yang Yu's orders. Some of them were skilled warriors, capable of turning the tide of battle, but others were merely ambitious youths who thought themselves worthy of greater power than they had earned. They did not understand the cost of leadership, the price that had to be paid to maintain control over such a growing force. Yang Yu knew that if he hesitated for even a moment, it would be too late.

The first to fall were those who had been the loudest in their opposition. They were rounded up quietly, their families and close allies kept in the dark until it was too late. There were no dramatic confrontations, no public trials. They simply vanished, erased from the sect as if they had never existed. Those who remained in Void Horizon would know what had happened, but the fear of retribution would keep their mouths shut.

The message was clear: betrayal would not be tolerated.

But Yang Yu knew this purge would not be enough. He had to rebuild the trust that had been shattered, and he had to do it quickly. The coming battle with the unified forces of the Sky Reaching Sect, Thunderclap Clan, and Crimson Flame Sect loomed large, and every disciple must be willing to fight for the future of Void Horizon. There could be no distractions, no doubts.

And yet, as Yang Yu prepared for the upcoming war, a darker realization settled in. His grip on Void Horizon had become like a double-edged sword. The more he held on to control, the more enemies he made—not just outside the sect, but within it. To maintain his power, to protect the sect, he was forced to become something more than just a leader. He had to be a tyrant, a master of manipulation, and a king willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to achieve victory.

The price of power was steep, and Yang Yu was beginning to understand just how far he would have to go to protect his vision.
