Reincarnation Code Breaker

Chapter 24: C-023: Holidays and Arising Conflict

In an early morning light that filtered through the curtains of his room, Ace woke up from his slumber.

His eyes fluttering open, "A familiar ceiling. A familiar scent. And…"

"Good morning big bro!" greeted Shaw excitedly, on the verge of landing on Ace from his jump.

"The rough awakening that this little gremlin likes to execute," thought Ace, time seemingly slower than it actually was as he observed Shaw. "But…"

As Shaw landed, he flopped on an empty bed as a chop came hitting him on his head. "Ouch!"

"That's what you get for trying the same move on me twice," Ace said while Shaw rubbed his head in pain.

"That hurt!"

"Not more than your cannon balls," retorted Ace with an annoyed expression which slowly turned menacing. "Even this doesn't compare to the pain from that time. But maybe you'd like to have another go?"

"N-no thanks," Shaw flinched as he then humbled himself

As Ellie entered the room, "Oh! Seems like everyone is awake I see," she said, a smile etched on her face.

"Good morning," responded Ace.

"And a good morning to you too."

"As always, she's really bright," Ace mused silently as he looked at her warm smile.

"Breakfast is ready."

"Yay~!" Shaw ran out of the room.

"Shaw! How many times do I have to tell you to not make such noise in the morning?" Ellie followed after him.

With a sigh, "How can they have so much energy in the morning? I really don't get it," Ace also followed suit as he went towards the dining table in the living room.

"G'morning," greeted Chris who was setting the table.

"Good morning," Ace sat down at the table.

"So, did you enjoy your first night of holidays since the end of the term?" asked Chris as he sat down with him.

"I did. Though I would have preferred a calmer morning."

"Haha. Shaw did his thing again?"

"You know it. But this time, I was fully prepared."

"Got one up on him, didn't ya?" said Chris as Ace then nodded.

"Anyway, glad to have you back with us."

"Glad to be back," Ace added before drifting into his own thoughts as Shaw and Ellie came to join them, and they started having breakfast. "I do have a mission to accomplish after all."

As they enjoyed their breakfast, they exchanged pleasantries over breakfast and after some chatter here and there, and freshening up over a warm bath and clean clothes, Ace eventually announced his departure for a little outing.

Unlike before, he was no longer restricted in his movements, and he could now go on outings alone. Proof of the trust Chris now had in him.

"I'm going out now!"

"Okay! Have a safe walk," said Ellie, a gentle smile playing on her lips.

As he left the appartement, he walked and perched himself at the top of the building, he wore a cape hat and headphones, feeling the breezing wind on his face.

"That old man… I wonder what he's really planning. Well, I'll find out sooner or later so…" he muttered to himself as a smirk then played on his lips. "Shall we get on to it then?"

He disappeared in an instant, vanishing into the great expanse of the city in a trail of shadows.

Elsewhere, in another part of the city.

"Sis, wait up. Can we take a break?" asked Emilia, clothed in simple wear. A sleeved black jacket with a white top, a frilly light blue skirt and a pink handbag.

"What's the matter? Can keep up?" asked the person in front of her, a woman with long blonde hair tied up in a ponytail and bright green eyes that emanated an irrepressible sense of danger.

On first impression, she was what one would call a typical gal. A tight black shirt with a green jacket which complemented her slightly ripped, tight blue jeans which also added flair to her simple yet complementary white shoes.

"Come on. It's been months since we had a little sister outing," she said before seemingly looking away and brooding. "Or is it that… you've grown too old to even spend time with your big sis."

"N-no. It's not that," Emilia tried to comfort her while the lady slightly grinned behind her brooding expression.

"Hook, line and sinker."

"In that case, we're gonna continue our date until I'm completely satisfied," she said as her mood suddenly became more cheerful.

"Now let's go!" the woman said dragging Emilia around who understood that she got tricked.

"Y-you big meanie! You tricked me," exclaimed Emilia while the woman laughed.

"Found the target. But I really gotta wonder what the old man wants," thought Ace who gazed at them from afar behind a pillar. "In any case, I'll bleed him dry once this is over with. Just you wait."

Meanwhile, in a place veiled in darkness, a mysterious figure stood by a window, his eyes gleaming with a sinister light as he gently swirled the drink in his glass.

"My, oh my, to think that's where you've been hiding all this time. I certainly didn't expect it, dear Emilia," said the man in his perfectly tailored tailcoat before calling upon someone. "Are you there, Sirius?"

Shortly after, a figure emerged from the shadows. "Did you call for me, Boss?" asked the enigmatic Sirius, his towering form clothed in a perfectly tailored black attire that was almost similar to a military garb.

"Yes. I've got a job for you," replied the man who sat behind the desk.

"Who's the target?" inquired Sirius, his hardened brown eyes accentuated by the scar on his face and his dark green hair further increasing his already menacing form.

"A young girl who goes by the name Emilia Windsor. I want you to capture her and bring her to me. Understood?" explained the man.

"Understood," replied Sirius. "But if I may, why are you ordering me to capture her and not kill her?"

"Simple," started the man before giving him an answer. "She's a valuable asset that escaped our grasp and I want her back. Nothing more, nothing less."

"I see."

"If she fights back then… it doesn't matter in what state she's brought back as long as she's alive," instructed the man before an eerie and creepy smile etched itself on his lips. "And if anyone gets in the way, you have permission to kill them on the spot."

"Understood," replied Sirius, a bloodthirsty grin appearing on his face.

"I'm expecting great results from you, so don't disappoint, okay?"

"No need to worry. I'll finish my preparation and finish this mission as quickly as possible," Sirius bowed down on front of the man who had the same expression as the one he had before.

"Okay then… do as you wish."
