Chapter 5: CH 4 - CHAOS AND ESCAPE
Kai chose the Wind power, he felt a sudden surge of energy and speed. He could feel his body becoming lighter, his movements becoming more agile and swift but also came with a debuff of weak physical strength and the risk of being affected by waves in the air.
He looked over at Dr. Taylor, who was watching him with a mixture of concern and hope. Without hesitation, Kai scooped her up in his arms and took off, using his newfound speed to outrun the monsters.
At first, it seemed like they were going to make it. Kai was moving so fast, the monsters were struggling to keep up. But just as they were starting to gain some distance, the monsters let out a loud, ear-piercing scream. The sound waves from the scream rippled through the air, causing the waves that Kai had been warned about to form.
As Kai sped through the air, the waves began to affect him, making it harder for him to maintain his balance. He stumbled and staggered, his speed and agility compromised by the turbulent air. Dr. Taylor, who was still clutched in his arms, looked up at him with alarm as Kai struggled to stay upright.
The monsters, sensing their chance, began to close in. They were getting closer and closer, their jaws snapping wildly as they chased after Kai and Dr. Taylor. Kai knew he had to think fast, or they would be caught for sure. He gritted his teeth, focusing all his energy on trying to overcome the effects of the waves and keep his balance.
But it was no use. The waves were too strong, and Kai's weak physical strength made it impossible for him to resist. He felt himself stumbling, his arms weakening as he struggled to hold onto Dr. Taylor. The monsters were right behind them, their hot breath on their heels. Kai knew they were running out of time...
Just as all hope seemed lost, Kai spotted a nearby branch on the ground and grabbed it, using it to deflect the monster's attack. With a swift motion, he jammed the branch into the mouth of the lead monster, which let out a pained roar as the wood lodged between its teeth.
The monster's eyes went wide with confusion and pain, and it began to thrash about, its jaws snapping wildly as it tried to dislodge the branch. In its confusion, the monster charged forward, crashing into the other monsters and causing a chaotic melee.
The other monsters, caught off guard by their companion's sudden attack, stumbled and fell over each other as they tried to get out of the way. The lead monster, still in pain and disoriented, continued to flail about, causing even more chaos and confusion among its own kind.
Kai, seeing his chance, took advantage of the distraction to make a break for it. He grasped Dr. Taylor tightly and activated his Wind power, feeling the familiar surge of speed and agility as he took off. The two of them sped away from the monsters, leaving the chaotic scene behind.
As they ran, Kai could hear the monsters' roars and snarls growing fainter, and he knew they had managed to put some distance between themselves and their pursuers. He didn't dare look back, fearing what he might see, and instead focused on putting as much distance between themselves and the monsters as possible.
Dr. Taylor, still clutched in Kai's arms, looked up at him with a mixture of amazement and gratitude. "How did you think of that?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kai just grinned, his chest heaving with exertion. "I didn't have time to think," he said. "I just reacted." He paused, looking around at their surroundings. "We need to keep moving. We don't know how long it'll take for those monsters to regroup and come after us again."
