Chapter 0 - Prologue
[Kaleidoscope]
Surprisingly, this was the name of the game I was playing. It was a game that had been officially released for the first time three years ago and still held the undisputed number one position.
If you ask what kind of game this is, I could explain that it’s literally an academy game where you create a kaleidoscope of professions and continuously raise numerous characters.
Indeed, the game was filled with all sorts of professions befitting its name “Kaleidoscope,” and even I, who started this game late, finally achieved max level with my fifth character today, and immediately leaned back in my chair and lay down.
“Finally, the fifth one is also max level!”
It’s been already half a year since I started the game, and the fact that I’ve only just maxed out five characters might seem a bit slow, but I didn’t care much.
What I was doing was a game to pass time, not a game played competitively.
Of course, being of Korean blood, there were times when I stayed up all night playing the game, but that’s beside the point.
“I really worked hard.”
I got up from the chair I was lying on and looked at the five brilliantly shining characters on the monitor screen. Five characters with level 100, the current max level in the game, clearly written above them.
In order, there was the main character from the Dual Sword profession, the sub-character from the Qi Master profession, followed by the Archer profession, the Mage profession, and the Cook profession.
Naturally, all of them were female.
I’m sorry, but this is the unwritten rule. In MMORPG games, playing male characters was implicitly forbidden, so it was natural to play female characters.
As I clicked on each of my characters to examine them, a thought suddenly occurred to me, and I let out a thoughtful “Hmm.”
“How much have I spent on this game already? About ten million won?”
Unlike other games, Kaleidoscope wasn’t a game that induced spending, but rather focused on user enjoyment, so ten million won was actually quite a large amount. But looking at these dazzlingly raised characters, I didn’t regret it at all.
To begin with, I spent only ten million won but got the efficiency of about 100 million won compared to other games, so there was no reason to regret it.
But that moment was short-lived, as I suddenly widened my eyes at the screen that appeared on the character selection window.
[The Goddess of Choice, Iriel, requests your help. Will you accept?]
[Accept/Decline]
“Iriel?”
I unconsciously muttered that name I hadn’t heard in a long time.
The Goddess of Choice, Iriel. She was described as the creator goddess of the Kaleidoscope world and appeared in the prologue stories of all professions.
She had her own temple in Phara, the capital of the continent, and was the goddess worshipped if you chose a healer-type profession.
It was surprising that Goddess Iriel’s quest suddenly appeared on the character selection screen, but I figured it was probably a bug that came out too early in the game. After roughly understanding the current situation, I turned my attention to the content of the quest.
“If the goddess is asking for help, does that mean there’s another quest for the clergy?”
If so, it was worth accepting. Quests related to the clergy usually had quite juicy rewards.
Therefore, without much thought, I moved the mouse to click the accept button, and it was the next moment that I realized it was the wrong choice.
As soon as I pressed the accept button, the quest window disappeared instantly, and messages started rapidly filling up the screen.
“What the fuck?!”
Could it be an error? Worried that there might be a problem with my newly purchased computer, I reached out again to the mouse I had let go of, but just before I could grab it.
A translucent hologram window appeared not on the monitor, but ‘in front of my eyes’, bidding me farewell.
[Thank you for your kind heart, and I, Goddess Iriel, enclose my blessing.]
[I bestow upon you the characters you’ve raised with your efforts as avatars.]
[I, Goddess Iriel, will dwell within you so that your heart does not crumble.]
[I wish you luck, traveler beyond the world.]
As I read those words, my vision flickered.
