Chapter 12 - Magic Class
The next day dawned, and after leaving the temple, I was adjusting my attire in my professor’s office located in the academy.
As the first class at 10 o’clock was a magic class, it was Meiel’s office rather than Aria’s, and I was also in Meiel’s appearance.
“This should be fine.”
Navy blue wavy hair and a baggy robe covering up to the mouth. Half-closed eyes with a disheveled look.
I had already checked five times. I checked five times because I was nervous about the first practical class, so there probably won’t be any problems.
Checking the clock, the current time was 9:55. As it was about time to leave, I used light telekinesis to pull the staff I had set beside the full-length mirror while checking my clothes.
“Shall we go now?”
By now, everyone should have finished preparing and gathered. I opened the window of the office and floated up into the sky.
“Being able to fly is really nice.”
This is the good thing about Meiel.
Unlike my other professions – swordsman, ki master, archer, and cook – which are all physical types that run around on the ground, Meiel the magician didn’t need to move her body even for small actions.
After all, everything could be solved with magic.
Of course, since Meiel was wearing the final equipment, she wasn’t particularly weak in strength and could move directly if needed, but using magic in daily life was a separate matter.
Moreover, the method of mana operation that naturally comes with changing into Meiel’s body was close to omnipotence.
Even this floating and flying I’m doing now is just a normal application of mana, not some kind of skill.
“Mana is really incredibly convenient.”
Theoretically, if you know how to handle mana well, you could become an omnipotent being as I just said. Of course, even for me, that’s almost impossible, so it would be impossible for anyone.
While having such frivolous thoughts as I flew, I soon arrived in the airspace above the large playground, which was my class location.
Looking down, I could see that the playground was already filled with students who seemed to be taking the magic class.
They weren’t standing in orderly lines, so it was difficult to gauge their numbers, but at a glance, there seemed to be over 40 students.
Considering that the normal number in my previous life was in the late 20s to 30s, this was a much larger number.
“And I’m the one who has to teach all these students.”
I felt like I wanted to go back to the past, thinking I might have taken on too much of a challenge, but what can you do about spilled water?
Comforting myself that this was all for the future, I slowly descended towards the large playground.
“””…”””
As I started to descend, one by one they began to notice me and fall silent, and soon everyone was looking at me and closing their mouths that had been chattering excitedly. Then, a heavy silence settled.
That only makes it awkward for me…
I couldn’t hide my discomfort at the heavy silence weighing on my shoulders, but I couldn’t tell them to start chattering loudly again either.
This was the atmosphere I had to endure as a professor anyway, so I grasped my fluttering robe and landed gently on the small podium in front of the students.
Then I looked around at the silent students once.
Unlike the Arin and others I saw in Class A yesterday, the notable representative characters here were Pina from the healer job class, Shati from the magician job class, and Fran from the shaman job class.
As befitting students taking a magic class, they were all representative characters from magic-related job classes.
After imprinting the three in my eyes, I smiled slightly under my robe and introduced myself to my students, just like yesterday.
“Nice to meet you all… I’m Meiel… From today, I’ll be in charge of your magic class…”
My voice comes out changed due to Meiel’s filtering, which I’m not yet used to.
Some students laughed softly at my voice that sounded like it might fall asleep at any moment, but it was the kind of laugh one makes when seeing a cute creature, not mockery, so I didn’t point it out and continued speaking.
“I don’t like wasting time… so we’ll start the class right away…”
Saying this, I lightly waved the staff I was holding.
The goal was to move the earth’s mana to create a very solid scarecrow. And according to this intention of mine, the soil from the playground gathered together and rose up in the center of the students.
“Whoa?!”
“Is this… a pillar?”
“A scarecrow?”
The students scattered in a circle, surprised as a scarecrow made of soil suddenly rose up among them.
I flew over such students and settled next to the scarecrow.
“This is… a scarecrow I made. We’ll start measuring with this now…”
“Excuse me, Professor. By measuring, you mean?”
“Mmm… just measurement as it is. Shoot your most confident attack magic at this. If you’re confident in defensive magic, I’ll attack you…”
What should I do for the first class? I thought about this a lot yesterday.
It’s not like the national language, English, or math classes from my previous life, but a class teaching practical combat. So I pondered for several hours, and this was the conclusion I came to.
Measuring the students’ abilities.
For practical combat, I just need to explain and demonstrate what I know and teach somehow, but the problem is how to adjust the difficulty level.
That’s why I needed to measure the abilities of the students taking my class. And then I can teach a class tailored to their average skill level.
‘Mana synchronization, durability enhancement, super regeneration.’
I waved my staff a few times towards the scarecrow I created, casting enhancement magic. It had to withstand the magic of 40 people gathered here, so I diligently worked on it even though it was troublesome.
After finishing the enchantment, I turned to the students standing in a circle around me and the scarecrow.
“Those who are confident can come out and do it… By the way, there’s a big reward for first place, so do your best…”
If there’s no reward for such a test, it probably won’t be fun, so I’ve also prepared a big reward for first place.
The sponsor is the Pope. The reward is a wand made of Chepritia wood.
It’s a premium wood worth 100,000 gold per piece and has excellent mana responsiveness, so wands and staves made from this wood are dream wands for magicians.
Well, even in the game, it was a wand that could only be used at level 40, so it should be a sufficient prize.
As I nodded my head at the prize that I thought was appropriate, a girl walked out from the group of students.
“May I go first?”
“Mmm… I don’t mind.”
The girl who walked out was none other than Shati. I’ve explained about her a few times before, but she was the one who competed for 1st and 2nd place in popularity rankings along with Arin, the representative character for swordsmen.
With hair that was half ash-gray and half pink, sky-blue eyes, and a height of about 160cm, similar to mine, Shati was clearly showing why she was a character competing for 1st and 2nd place in popularity rankings.
She might not have as good a personality as Arin, but such an appearance combined with a slightly overconfident personality was certainly charming enough.
I nodded to Shati, who asked if it was okay for her to be measured first, and Shati pulled out her wand with a confident smile on her face.
Then Shati looked back at me once and asked.
“That scarecrow target. Is it okay to destroy it using any magic?”
“Huh? Mm… if you can? Then it doesn’t matter what magic you use…”
My answer must have pleased her, as Shati smiled brightly and pointed her wand at the target, closing her eyes tightly.
And then slowly, several magic circles appeared around Shati. The surrounding students took a few steps back at the sight of Shati, and I looked up at the sky where I could feel Shati’s mana and muttered inwardly the words I couldn’t bring myself to say out loud just now.
‘You probably can’t destroy that unless it’s my magic…’
Because I applied enhancement magic with all my might, you know?
