Chapter 15 - Do You Know the Taste of Korea?
Ding ding ding──
“Ah… class is over. Good job everyone…”
“Aaah finally!!!”
“We survived…”
“I thought I was going to die…”
As soon as the bell rang, signaling the end of the nearly two-hour class, the students who had been waving their wands in front of me collapsed in a heap.
In fact, if there hadn’t been any students who could use magic without chanting, I would have continued the class, but as expected of the representative characters, Shati, Pina, and Fran succeeded, so the class ended on time.
And of course, the three who made it possible to end the class on time were receiving a shower of thanks from the other students.
I too, as it was about time, floated up from where I was standing using mana and spoke to the students who were about to head to the cafeteria.
“Everyone worked hard… so enjoy your meal… And since it’s everyone’s first time going to the cafeteria… it might be good if you could go to the place my sister runs, if possible…”
“Your sister?”
“Mm. My sister also works in the cafeteria…”
I nodded to the student who asked about my sister. Since I was also going to the cafeteria now, I was doing a bit of promotion before going.
While I might not care about the other extras, the representative characters who would be essential in the future absolutely had to use my cafeteria.
So I took out three ‘meal tickets’ that I had prepared in advance and, under the pretext of a prepared reason, sent them flying to Shati, Pina, and Fran.
“I’ll give these to you three since you succeeded in what I asked you to do in this class… The original prize will be… I’ll give it to Shati, so come get it later…”
The three caught the three meal tickets I sent flying and looked at me with expressions that didn’t understand what was going on.
Especially Shati seemed surprised to hear that I was giving her the original prize, but as I needed to save time to go to the cafeteria, I flew off into the sky without looking back.
Towards the cafeteria in the distance.
The cafeteria at Lua Academy operates in a unique way.
Normally, in a school cafeteria from my previous life, you’d expect to see kitchen ladies all preparing ingredients and cooking together, but Lua Academy’s cafeteria operates more like a food court in a large supermarket.
It means you put in a meal ticket you bought in advance and order the food you want to eat, and then the cooking area that makes that food serves it to you.
But despite being an academy game, the food made in the cafeteria is mostly Western cuisine like steaks or spaghetti, and even though the people cooking are undoubtedly from the ‘cook job class’, they must be low level because the effects that come with the food are at best just health and mental recovery.
How can students who need to fight against the demon race in the future get stronger with this?
The true significance of the cook job class is the small but permanently accumulating food buffs. Although their combat ability is lower compared to other jobs, as a support-type job class, the buffs attached to completed dishes are the most important for cooks.
This is also why I requested a cook position in addition to being a professor. What would happen if you consistently ate food with small but permanent strengthening buffs for 5 years?
Obviously, the results would be undeniable, which is why I had quickly flown to the cafeteria and was now quietly landing behind it.
“It seems the students haven’t arrived yet… I need to change quickly… Avatar.”
The avatar window pops up at my muttering. I took my hand out from under my robe and touched the character wearing pure white chef’s clothes in the avatar window.
[Do you want to select Cook – Yeonhwa?]
“Select.”
As soon as I spoke, my body changed in an instant. There wasn’t much change in height from when I was Meiel, but the baggy robe disappeared and my body was now wrapped in the pure white chef’s uniform I had just seen.
And while the hair was in the same red range as Aria’s, unlike Aria’s light red, Yeonhwa had burning red hair like a blazing sun, and uniquely, eyes that were gray, barely distinguishable from the white of the eye.
But those eyes shone as a charm, and after transforming into Yeonhwa’s body, I let out a sigh filled with the lament I had been holding back and muttered:
“Haah, finally changed. As expected, Yeonhwa’s body is the best compared to those annoying bodies.”
Yeonhwa’s body is really the best. If you ask what’s the best about it, I would obviously answer that Yeonhwa’s way of speaking is the closest to my unfiltered way of speaking.
Yeonhwa’s filtering is like a ‘foul-tempered cook’ feeling. Objectively speaking, it was even more foul-mouthed than my past self, but compared to other characters, it was still a refreshingly straightforward way of speaking, so I was satisfied.
“I should go in quickly. I have to cook.”
But now was not the time to indulge in such satisfaction. I hung the kitchen knife I was holding on my waist and quickly ran towards the main entrance of the cafeteria.
As I just said, the students had just left their classes and were heading to the cafeteria, so there were about 10 minutes left until they arrived.
So I boldly opened the cafeteria door and stepped inside.
“Hmm… It’s damn big. By the way, is that where I’ll be cooking?”
As soon as I entered through the cafeteria door, the first thing I saw was the counter where you submit your meal ticket and order food. Behind it, there were tables and seats that could probably seat 1,000 people arranged in a large space, and even further back, there were 5 booths set up.
From the first to the fourth, there were already bustling sounds coming from inside, suggesting cooks were present, so my booth was probably the last one, the fifth booth.
“Alright, let’s go check the ingredients first.”
Preparation and such only takes 10 seconds anyway. I muttered inwardly as I walked to my booth, briefly checking the interiors of the other booths I passed.
Looking inside the booths, there seem to be at least 50 people per booth… Of course, I’m enough on my own, so it’s not a problem.
I guess they need a lot of people to handle hundreds of students.
“Hey. You there, newbie.”
As I was about to enter my booth, making some judgments, I suddenly heard a voice behind me and stopped in my tracks, turning my head.
As I turned, I saw three or four people from each booth poking their heads out and looking at me.
…Are they trying to play whack-a-mole or something?
As I tilted my head at this behavior I couldn’t understand, I was able to roughly grasp what was going on from what they were saying to me.
“From what I heard, it seems you got in through connections, but don’t look down on Lua Academy’s cafeteria. All the guys who crawled in like you got cut out.”
“Hey, will you be okay alone? Do you want some help? But of course, it’s not for free, you know?”
“Senior, won’t they get fired soon anyway? How can they work alone in the first place?”
As the one who seemed to be the leader spoke with a heavy tone, the others pointed at me and snickered.
Their actions were so childish it was laughable, and I was about to ignore them and go inside, but I felt that if I did, it might interfere with my cooking in the future, so I decided to play along a bit and took out a chopstick from my booth.
A chopstick with a blunt end that couldn’t be used as a blade. But it’s suitable for poking those guys.
I tossed and caught the chopstick a few times, then threw it towards the ear of the guy who seemed to be the leader.
Karddeuk──!
“──?! Aaaaargh!!!”
“Senior!”
“That crazy bitch!”
Although Yeonhwa’s combat ability is lower compared to other jobs, she’s still a level 100 max level character.
Her strength was about that of a level 70 swordsman character, so piercing human flesh with chopsticks was as easy as eating cold porridge.
The leader whose ear was torn ragged by the chopstick I threw fell down screaming, and the surrounding cooks glared at me, their bodies twitching as if they were about to pounce.
However, before that, I frowned in anger and spoke to those looking at me with disgust:
“I just came here to cook in a good mood, you know? But if you make me feel shitty like that again, next time I’ll tear your fucking mouths apart. Got it?”
“Where does this bitch get off talking nonsense──”
“If you think I’m bullshitting, come in when I’m cooking. If you want your mouth cut off with a kitchen knife.”
At my words, dripping with sincerity, they flinched but clicked their tongues as they returned to their booths, and I also entered my booth, chewing on curses.
Just my shitty luck. I didn’t think I’d be subjected to such childish pranks from the start. No, it’s bad luck that such guys are cooks in the same cafeteria in the first place.
I looked around my booth, trying to calm my burning feelings about how unlucky this was.
“Oh, it’s quite big? Plus, the ingredients are plentiful.”
Although it was a booth operated by me alone, it was the same size as the other booths, so the interior was a large kitchen for 50 people, and when I opened the storage room, I saw that the ingredients were also filled to the brim without any gaps.
At a glance, the freshness and quality seemed to be top-notch. It seemed that those guys from earlier, while jerks, at least kept some boundaries and hadn’t touched my booth.
“That’s unexpected of those guys. I thought they might have messed with my ingredients too.”
Of course, if they had, I would have found them somehow and turned them into a bloody mess and stolen the ingredients back.
But fortunately, it didn’t seem like such troublesome things would happen, so I rolled up my sleeves and laid out the ingredients I had taken from the storage room in front of me.
The dishes I would be making in my booth were already written on the menu board at the front of the cafeteria, and with the ingredients, skills, and body all prepared, all that was left was to prepare the food.
“I’ll finish prepping ingredients for 500 servings in 3 minutes!”
If it’s to let you taste the addictiveness of our Korean food, that much is easy!
