Chapter 4 - The Temple

It didn’t take long to get from the Beginner’s Plain to the Kingdom of Phara. Moreover, having transformed into Kama’s body with stats focused on agility, it was an instant to reach the Kingdom of Phara.

After running for about 5 minutes, the outer walls of the Kingdom of Phara came into view, and what appeared to be the entrance had a long line of people stretched out.

Considering that Liana was heading to the Kingdom of Phara, the reason for so many people gathering like this must be because of the academy’s entrance ceremony.

Unfortunately, apart from Liana, I couldn’t see any of the representative characters of Kaleidoscope that I knew in the line I approached, but thinking there was no need to get ahead of myself, I quietly waited for my turn.

“My, what a beautiful person…”
“Shh! They can hear you…!”

Of course, there were instances of receiving obvious stares from other people standing in line due to Kama’s exceptionally pretty appearance, but everyone seemed to be sensible enough not to speak to me unnecessarily.

That’s fortunate. If someone had spoken to me, there might have been problems again because of this strange filtering.

And in the brief moment I had, as I looked around, I saw quite a few students wearing Lua Academy uniforms, though not the representative characters.

‘It seems certain that there is an entrance ceremony.’

Roughly a dozen or so students visible to the eye, and the rest, the merchants, seemed to be filling their cargo wagons with goods, apparently intending to make a profit at the festival held on the occasion of the entrance ceremony.

According to the game’s explanation, on the day of Lua Academy’s entrance ceremony, a two-day festival is held in the Kingdom of Phara to celebrate the gathering of all sorts of talented individuals.

Moreover, on this day, there was a joint quest for all representative characters to participate in the festival, so if I played my cards right, I might be able to see representative characters other than Liana.

The mere thought filled me with anticipation. Unable to contain my excitement, I found myself humming without realizing it.

Honestly, the ones I wanted to see the most were the representative characters of the swordsman and mage job classes, who I had personally raised and who were also very popular due to their individual charms.

As everyone has seen, Liana’s personality is quite nasty. But compared to her, the swordsman and mage have calm personalities, unique charms, and pretty appearances that made them truly popular.

Given that, it’s not wrong for me to want to see them at least once. If I meet them during the festival, I should pretend not to know them and take care of them.

And as I was thinking about the representative characters of various other job classes, it was suddenly my turn. Watching the merchants and wagons in front of me enter through the main gate of the outer wall, I stopped in front of a knight holding a halberd.

“What is your purpose for visiting the Kingdom of Phara today?”
“Yes, I’ve come to enjoy the festival a little today.”

As soon as I opened my mouth to answer the knight asking about my purpose, the correction started again, resulting in a gentle tone. Seeing this tone now, it seemed that my manner of speech doesn’t follow the original, that is, the original characters’ personalities and speech patterns.

Well, if it were exactly the original character’s way of speaking, Aria’s speech wouldn’t have been that hot-tempered.
And if it followed the original character’s speech pattern, the current speech of Kama, my current body, should be the same as Liana’s, but it’s not at all, is it?

Thinking this was fortunate, I answered the knight, and at my words, the knight nodded and then held out his hand to me.

“Then please show me your pass.”
“…Pardon?”
“Your pass. If you’ve come from another kingdom or village, you should have one, right?”

P-pass?

At the knight’s words, I blinked my eyes. No, there’s no way I would have something like a pass. Goddess Iriel only gave me ‘Avatar’, ‘Status Window’, and ‘Skill Window’, not something like an ‘Inventory’.

So, of course, I don’t have a pass. Still, wondering if I might have one, I rummaged through my pockets, but finding them empty as expected, I hesitantly said to the knight.

“Um… I’ve lost my pass and don’t have it with me right now.”
“I’m sorry, but without a pass, you cannot enter the Kingdom of Phara. Please get a proper pass issued in another village.”

Oh, fuck. It seems something has gone wrong from the start.

The knight tells me to get a pass issued in another village, but I don’t have time for that. I’m not even sure if I can finish everything I need to do even if I enter right now, let alone have time to go get a pass issued.

“Isn’t there any way? It would be quite troublesome if I can’t enter today.”
“Even if you say that, without a pass, you need someone to vouch for your identity, but there probably isn’t anyone who would do that for a person they’re seeing for the first time. Vouching for someone’s identity means taking responsibility for all illegal acts they might commit inside. In other words, it would be faster to just get a new pass issued.”
“But…”

Hmm… certainly, there’s no way anyone would vouch for me. If even family members don’t vouch for each other, no matter how pretty I might be, who would vouch for me?

Of course, when I looked around at the people behind me, they hurriedly avoided my eyes and turned their gazes away.

Yes, yes, I understand. I wouldn’t have vouched for myself either.

I nodded in understanding of their completely understandable inner thoughts and let out a deep sigh.

If I can’t enter without a pass, there’s nothing I can do. Anyway, I have a reason why I must enter today, so quietly retreating from here and sneaking in might be the best I can do.

Therefore, as I was about to leave the line and move towards the outer wall where there might be fewer people, two people emerged from among those behind me.

Two people with their hoods pulled down so low that their faces were barely visible. However, the words these two uttered were enough to surprise me, the knight, and everyone standing in line.

“We will vouch for this person’s identity.”
“Please allow us to do so.”

After saying this, the two walked over and presented their own passes to the knight. The knight seemed half-skeptical at first, but after receiving and looking at the passes they presented for a moment, his body shook greatly, and he returned the passes to them with a flustered face.

Then, after whispering something to another knight guarding the gate with him, he raised the halberd blocking the gate in front of him.

“Your identity has been vouched for by these individuals, so you may enter!”
“We hope you enjoy the festival!”

The knights shouted loudly with a stiff attitude as they opened the gate for me. At this sudden change, I alternately looked at the two who had guaranteed my identity and the knights.

‘What’s going on? Why did their attitude suddenly change like this?’

Who on earth are those two that they could make the knights’ attitudes change like this? Of course, it was good for me that I no longer had to sneak over the wall, but I couldn’t hide my uneasiness and slightly furrowed my brow.

But whether it’s this body’s intuition or what, I don’t think they helped with bad intentions.

To put it simply, they seem like bad people but not really bad people, or rather they look like bad people but you’d have to actually see them to know if they’re not bad people, that kind of feeling.

“We have something we’d very much like to discuss with you. If it’s alright, would you please follow us?”

While I was inwardly muttering these bizarre thoughts that even I found strange, the person who appeared to have a larger build among the two hooded individuals spoke to me in a kind voice.

I couldn’t refuse to follow them after they had vouched for my identity. Moreover, I wanted to know about them too, so I nodded and followed behind them as they led the way.

“Yes, of course.”
“Ahaha, that’s a relief. I was wondering what we’d do if you refused. Then, please follow us.”
“Gladly.”

The two laughed in relief at my affirmative response and led the way. As I followed them inside, the scenery of the Kingdom of Phara, which I had only seen in the game, greeted me.

The buildings lining the streets looked like something you’d see in a fantasy medieval era, and in the distance, at the center of the street, there was an open space with a fountain.
Numerous people were actively moving about the streets, and the lively sound of conversations made the streets even more beautiful.

A completely different scenery from the Beginner’s Plain I was in until just now, the scenery of a place where people live.

For a moment, I was about to be lost in a daze, but I quickly snapped out of it and caught up with the two leading the way.

“It’s such a bright and beautiful city, isn’t it? I truly live with the hope that days like these could continue forever.”
“Yes, it’s certainly very beautiful.”

The well-built man, who seemed already familiar with this street, walked skillfully while continuing the conversation, expressing his sincere appreciation to me.

Caught up in his charming way of speaking without even realizing it, I continued the conversation comfortably and enjoyably with the man, and as we walked like this, he suddenly stopped in front of a massive building.

Even when I looked up, it was a building so enormous that it was difficult to take in at a glance. With white pillars filling each wall, it looked unmistakably like a temple no matter how you looked at it.

If my memory serves me right, this must be the temple of Goddess Iriel in the Kingdom of Phara. Indeed, as described in the game, there were no other dwellings around the temple, and no people passing by were visible either.

The street was so quiet that the bustling streets from earlier felt like an illusion. Whether it was my imagination or not, I felt like my heart was getting slightly warmer.

“We’ve arrived. I think it’s about time we take off these hoods.”
“Yes, Your Holiness.”

…Your Holiness?

Before I could even process one surprise, another new piece of information hit me, and I stared with wide eyes at the two men removing their hoods.

One was an old man whose hair had turned completely white but emanated a holy aura, and the other was a young man whose blonde hair looked as if it had been slicked back with pomade.

And of course, both of them had faces I had seen so many times in the game.

Pope Helestinus Van. His attendant, Magid.

The Pope, the highest-ranking NPC from whom I had squeezed juicy rewards of complete resurrection potions and enormous amounts of gold through priest quests.

Now appearing as a living being, the old man, the Pope, bowed to me.

“It’s an honor to meet you, Traveler. I am Helestinus Van, the Pope of the temple serving Goddess Iriel. I have heard about you from Lady Iriel. I hear you possess power enough to overturn heaven and earth. It is an immeasurable honor to meet you, Traveler.”
“Pardon?”
“I dare to meet the Traveler sent by Lady Iriel herself. They say you have the power to part the seas with a single gesture, but please grant us the opportunity to serve you.”
“What?”

The Pope, whose back was said to never bow even before kings, and Magid were bowing to me without hesitation and shedding tears.

And at their unbelievable words, I was at a loss for words and could only grab the back of my neck.

What on earth are these incredibly exaggerated-sounding words they’ve heard!

From what I’m hearing from these two, it seems the Goddess has been boasting about me to her temple like an overly proud parent.

Hahaha, oh fuck.
