Chapter 56: Chapter 56: A Week of… Vacation

After a long and eventful day, nothing felt better than a little peace and quiet. I had finally returned to my penthouse, relishing the thought of a relaxing evening, far from work and missions.

Barely had I settled into the plush couch when Lisa and Sherry stormed in like two little hurricanes, launching themselves at me.

"DAD!"

I barely had time to react before Lisa took me hostage with a hug as strong as a Tyrant G's punch, followed closely by Sherry, who snuggled up against me as well.

"You missed us, didn't you?!" Lisa declared with a triumphant smile.

"More like you almost crushed my ribs!" I teased, pretending to groan in pain, which made Sherry burst into laughter.

At that moment, Jill entered the room as well, smirking at our little scuffle.

"So, Mr. King, are you planning to survive this assault, or should I call for backup?"

I looked up at her with exaggerated drama.

"If you could call for reinforcements, that'd be great. But considering you're clearly an accomplice in this, I doubt your objectivity."

She chuckled before sitting down beside us, grabbing the remote.

"Alright, enough talking. Tonight is all about relaxing. What are we watching?"

Lisa and Sherry exchanged a knowing glance before shouting in unison:

"Detective Raccoon!!!"

I raised an eyebrow, slightly amused.

"Really? You never get tired of watching yourselves in action?"

Lisa lifted her chin proudly.

"We have to check if the animation properly respects our acting skills!"

Sherry added, a little more hesitant but just as determined:

"And well… it's kind of fun to see ourselves as cartoons…"

Jill shrugged.

"Well, I guess it doesn't get more family-friendly than that." she said as she started the episode.

The animated show began, and before long, we all got caught up in the fun atmosphere. We laughed together at the exaggerated expressions of animated Lisa and Sherry, especially when their cartoon versions attempted a completely failed stunt.

"I would never have done that in real life!" Lisa protested, crossing her arms in a pout.

"Liar, you totally would have tried, and we all know it." Jill replied with a teasing smile.

Sherry giggled softly.

"Looks like they studied you a little too well, Lisa."

Time passed, and without even realizing it, the atmosphere grew quieter. Lisa and Sherry, still nestled against me, started to doze off, their breathing slowing into a steady rhythm.

Jill lowered the volume of the television, casting a tender glance in our direction.

"Well… that didn't take long," she murmured as she watched us.

I yawned slightly, feeling the fatigue creeping in as well. The couch was comfortable, the ambient air warm and soothing, and having my daughters nestled against me was a luxury I wanted to savor.

A few minutes later, Jill slowly turned her gaze away from the screen, observing the scene before her with undisguised tenderness.

Me, asleep with one arm around Lisa and the other around Sherry, while they had curled up against each other, comforted by my presence.

A soft sigh escaped Jill's lips, a gentle smile settling on her face.

"Seems like you're just as human as the rest of us, Gérald," she murmured before carefully draping a blanket over us. She then leaned back against the couch, enjoying the calm of this peaceful night.

A Balanced Week

The following week was a perfect balance of professional obligations, family moments, and scientific research.

Mornings always began in a lively atmosphere around the breakfast table, a ritual Gérald insisted on maintaining despite his busy schedule.

Lisa, bursting with energy, excitedly talked about her upcoming filming scenes, sometimes acting out her lines loudly, while Sherry, more reserved, watched her with an amused smile, shaking her head gently.

"Lisa, maybe you should wait until you're on set to warm up…" Sherry suggested while pouring her some orange juice.

"Never! I'm an artist! I must express my talent the moment I wake up!" Lisa declared dramatically, raising her glass of milk proudly, under the half-amused, half-exasperated gaze of Gérald.

"As long as you don't spill your talent all over the table, I guess we're fine…" he joked while grabbing a croissant.

His daughters' laughter echoed through the room, and for a moment, he allowed himself to relax, cherishing these simple moments that reminded him why he did all of this.

Detective Raccoon Takes on the Big Screen

One of the highlights of the week was an unexpected call from the director of the new Wonder Woman film.

— "Mr. King, I have a rather unusual request…"

— "Let me guess… you want me to fund an action scene?" Gérald replied, used to being solicited by the film industry.

— "Oh, even better than that! We already have Lisa and Sherry in the cast, and we had a brilliant idea with the writers…"

— "I already fear what you're about to say."

— "We want to do a cameo of Detective Raccoon in the movie!"

Gérald blinked, an incredulous smile forming on his face.

— "Wait… You mean my eccentric mascot character? The one in a trench coat and a raccoon mask? The guy who chases criminals with ridiculous gadgets?"

— "Exactly!" the director enthused. "Imagine the scene: Wonder Woman arrives in France, searching for information about Ares. She steps into a dark alley… and who greets her with a sarcastic remark? Detective Raccoon himself!"

Gérald pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head as he chuckled.

— "You're serious?"

— "Absolutely! You're a television legend with that role. It would be iconic!"

Lisa, who had been eavesdropping from the doorway, suddenly burst out:

"Dad, please, say yes! That would be amazing!"

On set, everything was ready. Gérald was dressed in his worn-out beige trench coat, his iconic raccoon mask covering his face, while a fine mist enveloped the backdrop of the fictional Parisian alleys.

Wonder Woman, played by the film's lead actress, stepped forward cautiously, her boots clicking against the damp cobblestone streets. She scanned the surroundings when suddenly, emerging from the shadows, an eccentric silhouette appeared before her.

"Miss, are you looking for someone? Because in this neighborhood, all you'll find is trouble," declared Detective Raccoon in a deep, theatrical voice.

The actress blinked, visibly surprised by the character's dramatic entrance.

"Detective… Raccoon?" she asked, hesitant.

Gérald raised an eyebrow under his mask, pulling out an old notepad and scribbling something onto it.

"That's me. Agent of organized chaos, master of absurd investigations, and a heavy consumer of black coffee. And you are?"

The actress barely held back a laugh before regaining her composure.

"Wonder Woman. I'm looking for information on Ares."

Gérald snapped his fingers as if struck by sudden inspiration.

"Ah! Ares! A big fan of destruction and doomed plans."

Gal Gadot raised an eyebrow, staying perfectly in character.

"So, do you have any information for me?"

I pulled a crumpled notebook from my pocket, flipping it open with theatrical flair.

"According to my ultra-secret sources—which means a certain Parisian pigeon named Jean-Claude—your shady guy has been spotted near the Louvre."

Gal stifled a laugh, nearly triggering a chain reaction of giggles across the set.

"Jean-Claude, huh?" she said, nodding.

I tapped the raccoon mask before adding:

"A reliable informant. We owe him the resolution of the Great Montmartre Croissant Heist."

At this point, even the crew behind the cameras were struggling to keep their composure, some laughing quietly to avoid ruining the take.

The director finally shouted, "Cut!", looking absolutely delighted.

"That was perfect, Gérald! You stole the scene, as always!"

I pulled off my raccoon mask, amused by the lively energy on set.

Lisa and Sherry, who had been watching the filming, rushed over to me.

"Dad! That was hilarious!" Lisa exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Jean-Claude the pigeon… Seriously?" Sherry added, trying to keep a straight face.

I shrugged with a smirk.

"Hey, creativity is key in our line of work."

The Entire Crew Applauded, Some Struggling to Hold Back Their Laughter at the Surreal Scene.

"Well… I've done my part. Now, who wants coffee?"

The crew burst into laughter as filming resumed. One thing was certain: Detective Raccoon was far from being forgotten.

Scientific Breakthroughs at King Pharmaceuticals

When I wasn't on set or spending time with my daughters, I dedicated my days to the laboratories of King Pharmaceuticals, where major scientific advancements were underway.

Inside an ultra-secure research facility, Marcus, Alexia, Wesker Junior, and the Jordan triplets worked relentlessly on a fascinating project: the T-Abyss Virus.

This project was born from Alexia's expertise and the discovery of the electric axolotl on Rockfort Island. This unique creature, capable of generating impressive electrical impulses, had a cellular structure adapted to extreme environments.

By combining its DNA with the T-Virus, a new viral strain was created—the T-Abyss Virus, specifically designed for aquatic species. But that was just the beginning…

"This is incredible…" Marcus murmured, fascinated by the results of the tests on marine organisms.

Wesker Junior, always analytical, reviewed the data on a holographic display.

"Unlike the original T-Virus mutations, which rendered creatures unstable and grotesque, this variant allows harmonious growth while maintaining biological balance."

Alexia, observing a 3D projection of the first aquatic hybrids resulting from interspecies fusion, smirked with satisfaction.

"We now have our first viable marine chimeras…" she announced.

I studied the results, intrigued.

"And what if we combined it with the G-Virus?"

A silence fell over the room. It was a bold idea, but Marcus stroked his chin, already evaluating the feasibility of the experiment.

"If we merge the T-Abyss with the G-Virus, we could create an entirely new species of apex predators… A form of forced evolution…"

"Well, let's do it," I said with a shrug. "A new virus, a new step forward."

And so, the G-Abyss Virus was born—a fusion of the G-Virus's adaptive power and the T-Abyss's aquatic properties.

The Results Were Staggering.

Zeus, my massive electric eel, underwent a spectacular mutation.

Already impressive at 30 meters long, after prolonged exposure to the G-Abyss Virus, he surpassed 200 meters, resembling more a mythological serpent than a mere biological entity. His electrical power could now generate arcs of electricity as powerful—or even stronger—than natural lightning bolts.

Alexia, observing the tests on Zeus, was in awe.

"This is no longer a creature… It's a god of the seas."

Wesker Junior crossed his arms, analyzing the energy readings.

"We must absolutely regulate his growth. If he becomes too intelligent, he could be an uncontrollable threat."

I shook my head, smirking.

"Don't worry. Zeus already knows who his master is."

Zeus Wasn't the Only One Who Had Evolved.

My giant crocodile, recovered thanks to Zeus, had also reached titanic proportions.

Now 80 meters long, his armor-like scales were as resistant as titanium, and his underwater power rivaled that of an attack submarine.

"This creature is a living war machine…" Marcus whispered.

"It's an amphibious tank," I confirmed, watching the tests.

But that wasn't all…

The Aquamoths, My First Marine Fish, Had Also Undergone a Transformation.

Their wingspan had doubled, and they had become masters of underwater camouflage, capable of blending into the water like jellyfish.

Finally, Neptune, the great mutant shark, had not only grown in size but had also developed a command instinct. He was now able to lead entire schools of sharks, whether infected or not.

Wesker Junior took a deep breath.

"We just changed the natural order of the oceans..."

Alexia nodded, a brilliant gleam in her eyes.

"We're no longer just creating weapons… We're shaping evolution."

I smiled, crossing my arms.

"As long as I don't end up with gills or fins on my back, I'm fine with it."

Marcus chuckled softly.

"You're wise not to test this on yourself. Marine adaptation could be… let's say, permanent."

I raised an eyebrow.

The Birth of an Independent State

Days passed, and my discussions with Alfred Ashford became increasingly captivating. A master of financial and political negotiations, Alfred had managed to secure an unprecedented deal.

Through a subtle game of legal pressure, exploitation of constitutional loopholes, and well-placed bribes, Raccoon City and the Arklay Mountains were officially recognized as an independent state.

In my luxurious office, a bottle of red wine sat on the table, a silent reflection of an unparalleled victory.

Sitting across from me, Alfred, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, adjusted his tie with a satisfied smirk. His sharp gaze, betraying an acute intellect, remained fixed on the officially signed documents.

"This is a masterstroke, Gérald. By exploiting gaps in U.S. law, we've secured total sovereignty over the territory."

I took a cigar, rolling it between my fingers before bringing it to my lips.

"Let's just say I'm a man of many talents," I replied, exhaling a slow swirl of smoke.

The U.S. administration, eager to bury the Umbrella affair, preferred to quietly relinquish responsibility. Instead of a long legal process that would expose their own failures, they had ceded the territory to King Pharmaceuticals under a new jurisdiction.

In other words, they had just handed me a kingdom.

"The best part?" Alfred continued, swirling his glass of wine. "Now, neither the U.S. government nor the U.N. can interfere with our decisions. We have complete autonomy to conduct our research, develop our economy, and govern this territory as we see fit."

I smirked.

"You mean, as I see fit."

Alfred held my gaze for a moment before chuckling lightly.

"Of course. I'm not the one with an army and genetically enhanced creatures."

A New Chapter Begins

As we savored our victory, a feminine presence entered my office.

Delphine, my personal assistant, walked in with her usual professional demeanor. Her perfectly tailored suit contrasted with the faux-severe expression she always wore when announcing my upcoming obligations.

"Gentlemen, I Hope I'm Not Interrupting Your Celebration..."

Delphine crossed her arms, a smirk playing on her lips as she stepped into the room.

Alfred immediately lifted his gaze toward her, a spark of interest flickering in his eyes.

"Not at all, my dear Delphine. You are always welcome."

I raised an eyebrow, observing the exchange.

Delphine was not the type to be easily impressed, yet it was obvious that there was a certain tension in the air between her and Alfred.

"I imagine you've come to tell us that Gérald has another million things to do?" Alfred asked, his tone playfully teasing.

"As always, Mister Ashford," she replied with a subtle, mischievous smile before taking a seat beside us.

I took a sip from my glass before eyeing the two of them.

"Interesting. Looks like my dear Alfred has finally met someone who can outmatch him in a battle of wits."

Alfred cleared his throat slightly, regaining his composure.

"I wouldn't say outmatch, but… let's just say that conversing with a woman as brilliant as Delphine is… refreshing."

Delphine raised an eyebrow, clearly amused, but remained silent.

I watched them exchange a knowing glance before bursting into laughter.

"Alright, alright. Have your fun, you two, but don't turn this into a diplomatic crisis in the office."

Alfred lifted his glass in a dramatic gesture.

"I shall do my best to remain a gentleman… as much as possible."

Delphine shook her head, a hidden smile lingering on her lips, before exiting the room.

I stared at Alfred in silence for a few seconds before exhaling.

"Damn it, you're really going to try and seduce her, aren't you?"

He shrugged with a falsely innocent expression.

"Me? Never. I am far too professional for that..."

I rolled my eyes.

"If you break her heart, I'll lock you in a lab with Alexia for a testing session."

He erupted into laughter.

"I'll take that as a warning."

I smirked, shaking my head.

(Author's Note: And that concludes Gérald's so-called 'vacation'—cough, cough—yes, vacation. The next chapter will be much tougher, filled with a week of business meetings and other complications. Ah, what a troublesome life for our poor MC! ^^)
