Reverend Insanity: The Gacha System

Chapter 84: Memories

Fang Yuan opened his mouth and bit down on the glass ball. The surface shattered instantly, releasing the swirling mist trapped within. As the cool vapor spread across his tongue, it bypassed his physical senses and directly entered his soul, like a chilling breeze brushing over the core of his being.

The effect was immediate. His soul trembled violently as an overwhelming flood of memories surged into it. Each fragment of knowledge struck like lightning, sending waves of ethereal pain cascading through his spiritual essence. The agony felt infinite, as if his very existence was being torn apart and stitched back together.

[System Notification: The soul Integration process has been initiated. Pain resistance in progress.]

Fang Yuan saw many images flashing within his head—memories of a future he once lived. He saw himself dying while being chased by his ancestor, who had embraced the blood path, clashing against a powerful Gu Master from the Immortal Crane Sect.

Next, he witnessed his escape with Bai Ning Bing from the Gu Yue Mountain following his rebirth, where he unleashed a genocide upon the clan to increase his aptitude. Scenes of meeting Shang Xin flashed by, showing how he cleverly deceived and manipulated her into becoming his pawn. Finally, he saw his journey toward Rank 4 and the fierce battles within the Three Kings Inheritance, each moment etched vividly into his mind.

He then saw memories of himself claiming the Hu Immortal Blessed Land and confronting the tribulation that threatened its stability, alongside other challenges in maintaining its prosperity.

Next, he saw himself adopting the identity of Chang Shan Yin and killing Ge Yao. He watched the entire Northern Plains campaign unfold, leading him to the Imperial Court. Memories of the Imperial Court Blessed Land resurfaced—his encounter with Mo Yao's will, the inkman race secrets, and crucial dealings with members of the Spirit Affinity House.

He saw the chaotic aftermath of looting the blessed land, awakening Giant Sun's will, and using Tai Bai Yun Sheng as a pawn under the guise of being a disciple of Purple Mountain True Monarch. With Tai Bai's help, he repaired the Dang Hun Mountain. Next came the memories of his zombified state, battling both externally against Northern Plains Gu Masters and internally with Mo Yao's will. He saw himself emerging victorious, claiming the Wisdom Gu while Hei Lou Lan took the Fixed Immortal Gu.

Fang Yuan's mind was flooded with the climactic battle of tribulations between Spectral Soul Demon Venerable and the heavenly tribulations, his seizing of the Sovereign Immortal Fetus Gu, and the failure of his plan to secure key Gu due to Yin Wu Fa's time travel interference. He saw his return to Lang Ya Blessed Land, followed by the time spent in the River of Time, the inheritance of Red Lotus, and the desperate pursuit by Heavenly Court members.

Next, the memory of the Fate War unfolded vividly—his initial loss and death, reincarnation, and Fairy Zi Wei using the Benevolence Gu. He understood the Gu's hidden uses. Then came the crucial reset of time, the eventual triumph in the Fate War, and his near-destruction due to the weakening effects of Heaven Path Dao marks. With the timely assistance of Lu Wei Yin, a disciple of Paradise Earth Immortal Venerable, he regained his strength.

The final vision was of him entering the Crazed Demon Cave and clashing with Star Constellation Immortal Venerable and Giant Sun Immortal Venerable.

When the last of the memories settled, everything pieced together seamlessly within his mind as the memory simulation came to a halt.

[System Notification: Memory Integration Complete.]

As the notification faded, Fang Yuan opened his eyes slowly. Though his physical body showed no outward strain, his soul had undergone a harrowing transformation. He sat still, allowing himself a moment of reflection.

"To think I would rise to the level where I could fight against Venerables. Hehehe, life is truly interesting. Now, I understand the plans the Venerables are using," Fang Yuan thought, excitement surging through him. Despite being marked by all the Venerables, he felt no fear—only exhilaration. This had always been his nature. He wished to live a life without restraint, without confining himself to the morals of others.

Immortal Venerables and Demon Venerables could achieve long lives, but his goal was beyond that: eternal life, a realm even the Venerables had never reached. Humans lived a mere hundred years, a fleeting moment akin to a dream that vanishes upon waking. What, then, was the purpose of life? To Fang Yuan, it was a journey—a path of discovery, witnessing the world's mysteries and interesting events.

"Although I do not want to die, I do not fear death," he mused. "I have already chosen the right path, and even if I die, I will have no regrets."

The heart of a demon never has regret even in death.
