Reverend Insanity: The Goody Two-Shoes System

"Fang Yuan, thank goodness you came," Qing Mao said. He was carrying Yao Hong in his arms, who had a long gash across her back and her robes were stained in blood. She was not opening her eyes and was clearly on the brink of death.

"Fang Yuan!" Bai Ning Bing said before chuckling. "Ah! Good! Good! Good! I had been feeling that there was a lack of excitement going around in this place... and to think that I would run into you once again when chasing someone else. Wonderful - let us fight to the death!"

"What happened?" Fang Yuan muttered to Qing Shu, who was retracting his use of Wood Charm Gu for the time being now that the pressure had been lifted from him. However, he was still in a precarious state, if he used it more, he would without a doubt die. 

"We were helping a mixed group of clansmen fend off some wolves, but then he descended from a mountain, saying that we were interrupting his fun, and that he had been waiting to see the Gu Masters scream in horror as they were torn apart by the wolves," Qing Shu said through gritted teeth. "He then slaughtered them all himself, regardless of whether they were Bai clansmen or not. Then, he began chasing us."

"Bai Ning Bing, as an elder of the clan don't you have any shame?" Qing Mao asked through gritted teeth. 

"Shame? No, I don't, if that's what you're asking," Bai Ning Bing said. 

"Don't bother trying to reason with him," Fang Yuan said. "This man is a true demon- righteous path cultivators like ourselves cannot even comprehend what goes around in that messed-up head of his."

Bai Ning Bing clutched his heart as if he had been severely wounded by Fang Yuan's words before laughing. "Oh, Fang Yuan, are you still keeping up this facade? A wolf recognizes another wolf even when sneaking among a flock of sheep, Fang Yuan!" 

"Don't listen to his nonsense," Fang Yuan said, passing two Vitality Leaves to Qing Mao. They would do Yao Hong little good in this scenario, but Fang Yuan had to play his part as a caring team member.

Of course, if he used Doctor Gu, he likely would be able to save her life - but there was no way that he could reveal that kind of gu worm to the public. 

Qing Mao thanked him, though indeed, it looked like the Vitality Leaves had done little for her. 

Fang Yuan by this point had disregarded the system's dumb mission and calculated that it would be for the best to kill Bai Ning Bing here and now. Who knew when he would be able to leave Qing Mao mountain? Bai Ning Bing was a ticking time bomb that would destroy much of what was on the mountain- even the Spring Autumn Cicada in its sealed state might get implicated, let alone things like the spirit springs which Fang Yuan would need to rely on.

Best to tear out the problem by the roots! Working with Qing Shu here, with Bai Ning Bing's primeval essence expended, there would be no better chance then now. The promise of an immortal gu was useless if one was dead after all, and Bai Ning Bing caused far too many problems for Fang Yuan to 

Host, this is base Bai Ning Bing that we're up against. Allow me to give you a little extra help in dealing with him.

Cultivation Blessing Received! 

Can advance one mortal gu by one rank. Cannot be used to advance mortal gu to Immortal Gu. 

"We need to quit biding time," Qing Shu said. "He's only going to recover more and more primeval essence the longer we wait. Qing Mao, take Yao Hong away while we deal with him."

It was naturally difficult for a person to move carrying another person, especially without a special movement-type gu worm or primeval essence. Were Fang Yuan to lend him the Hundred Li Earthwolf Spider, there might actually be a chance of them getting away. Though naturally, he would not do such a thing. 

"It would greatly upset my heart if we were to part so soon after having just met," Bai Ning Bing said, sending an icicle spear at Qing Mao's retreating back, which was blocked hastily by Qing Shu. 

Fang Yuan struck with a crimson moonblade, though Bai Ning Bing blocked it as a small membrane of water appeared in the attack's path. 

Water Shield Gu!

Since Bai Ning Bing had the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique, ice elemental type gu worms would be boosted in power whenever he used them. Even though he was Rank 3, they could show some degree of Rank 4 power. That was how Bai Ning Bing had been able to kill Rank 3 elders when he had only been Rank 2.

However, Water Shield Gu did not fall into the category of an ice gu worm, which is why Fang Yuan immediately pounced upon this as one of Bai Ning Bing's weaknesses. 

Bai Ning Bing snorted coldly even as the crimson moonblades rained down upon his water veil. "Fang Yuan, that Blood Moon Gu truly is impressive- too bad that its offensive power is mediocre!" He had seen the strange moonblade that Fang Yuan had used to kill the Hundred Beast King, and had gone back to his own village to inquire about it. Although the Bai Clan naturally had limited information on the gu worm, Bai Ning Bing was able to pick up a few points about it. Namely that it was mainly used as a strategy to force the enemy to bleed out.

And naturally, Bai Ning Bing had already prepared countermeasures for such an event. The Water Shield Gu was sufficient enough to block all of its attacks given its weak offensive power, and he could always temporarily turn his body into ice, negating its hemorrhagic effect. 

However, even as he taunted Fang Yuan, Bai Ning Bing's expression began to change. 

The Water Shield Gu was rapidly being used up as Fang Yuan released crimson moonblade after crimson moonblade.

'Isn't he worried about conserving his primeval essence?' Bai Ning Bing wondered. Even if the offensive power of the Blood Moon Gu was low, if each strike was stacked upon one another like this, gaps would be exposed in his defense. 

Tiny strokes fell great oaks- had Fang Yuan decided to commit himself fully to killing him? Either that, or he was confident that even if his primeval essence fell, that Qing Shu or some other Gu Masters would arrive to reinforce him. 

"Fang Yuan, careful!" Qing Shu said. He had noticed Fang Yuan's reckless use of his gu worms as well, though Fang Yuan paid no attention to this warning. 

Fang Yuan, of course, had no lack of Rank 3 primeval essence right now. Thanks to Training Weights Gu diluting it, his rate of recovery was even greater than that of Bai Ning Bing. Bai Ning Bing could not turn his full attention on Fang Yuan as he kept being blocked by Qing Shu's vines. 

As the flow of battle turned against Bai Ning Bing, he chose to change tactics in an effort to try and tip the scales.
