Chapter 51: Chapter 51: On the Day of Return, Hunting Time
The city of Rigate was very large.
As a transportation hub for trade with the northern countries, relying on the geographical advantage of connecting to the upper jaw of the red dragon, it was an important export center of the Kingdom of Asura. Villagers from surrounding villages transported various crops and handicrafts to the city in groups by horse-drawn carriages day and night.
It was a microcosm of the prosperous commodity economy of the Kingdom of Asura.
Thanks to this, although it was only a border town, the scale of Rigate City exceeded that of the magic city of Sharia.
At sunset, Allen looked up at the tall city walls and sighed.
One of the places where the battle for the throne of Asura in the original story took place. It's larger than expected, about a quarter the size of the capital.
"Ai, Allen!"
Allen lowered his head, pushing aside the strands of hair in his face, and looked at Luo Qixi's upturned face.
Maybe because of the sunset's afterglow, her face was flushed, like a ripe apple.
"It must have been tough on the way. Do you want to rest a night in Rigate City? You're silly — you said you were hungry last night, yet you went out to kill two monsters and didn't sleep. You should be able to reach Rigate City tonight."
Luo Qixi's eyes flickered, looking left and right. Though she raised her head, she didn't meet Allen's gaze directly.
Allen smiled.
"No, I'm going back now. Luckily, I didn't encounter thieves blocking the road."
Luo Qixi blinked and looked at Allen.
"Rushing back overnight?"
"Yes, rushing back overnight. It's been more than ten days. Uncle should be worried."
"This…"
Allen saw Luo Qixi's helpless look, shook her head slightly, and couldn't resist flicking the hair on her head, which caused her to roll her eyes and slap his hand away.
Cute.
It was worth mentioning that over the past ten days, the two had eaten, drunk, and relieved themselves together almost daily, and their relationship had quickly warmed. There was no more politeness or alienation.
Now, they could communicate comfortably without worrying about etiquette. Even when Allen teased Luo Qixi for her rash moves, she no longer showed any "superior airs."
Generally speaking, it's easy for a single man and woman who are unfamiliar with each other's living habits and suddenly close to develop a sense of "disenchantment," but Allen didn't feel that way. Instead, he thought Luo Qixi was more genuine.
When teased, she'd puff her cheeks and get angry; when in a hurry to eat barbecue, she'd burn herself and stuff meat into her mouth while pouting and crying; when she pretended to be superior and was ruthlessly exposed by Allen, she got furious and incoherent; when she had to go to the toilet or shower, her face flushed and she ignored Allen's words for a while; every morning when waking up, she seemed unable to open her eyes but skillfully took care of her two aqua-blue braids.
In the chaos of thoughts, too many moments floated and fell in Allen's mind. Although these scenes weren't exactly the same, one thing was clear:
This was a "god" who had fallen into the mortal world and had a true sense of the world. Not a "paper-thin character" like those in his own novel.
Thinking this, Allen came back to himself and waved his hand in front of Luo Qixi's face.
"Well, it's time to say goodbye again."
Luo Qixi was stunned. After a moment of silence, she nodded and subconsciously raised her hand and waved.
"Goodbye."
Then Allen lightly slapped her hand and she looked up, surprised.
Allen kept tapping Luo Qixi's palm gently with small slaps, smiling brightly.
"I'm not good at goodbyes, so see you in the future~"
Stopping, Allen withdrew his hand and waved, then turned away. His pockets bulged with some food Luo Qixi had left on purpose.
"Don't worry about my food. After all, I lived in the wild in the forest for a long time. Let's go."
Luo Qixi watched Allen's back, lowered her head to her hand, which he had slapped.
The sunset's afterglow cast a halo on her fingers. She shook her hand subconsciously, the corners of her lips slowly curved up, and she looked up at Allen again.
But before she could say goodbye once more, Allen disappeared into the crowd. He seemed to notice Luo Qixi's gaze but did not turn back, only waving again.
His figure quickly vanished from her sight. She blinked, a trace of belated doubt appearing in her eyes.
"Why do I feel Allen is a little too hurried? It's like…"
"There's something urgent to deal with."
In the middle of the night, the mountain wind blew through the forest, rolling leaves onto the narrow road beside the trees. Moonlight shone on them.
Someone stepped on the moonlit path and stopped.
Allen wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at a fence beside the road.
There was a deep scratch on the fence, and black ash embers faintly visible, scattered in the grass nearby.
It was from the campfire Lokixi had put out after they returned from hunting monsters last night. It had been three hours since they separated in the evening, and Allen had been running almost until midnight.
He had returned to the place where he had hunted monsters.
Allen's eyes moved from the campfire remains to the forest beside him.
"Finally. We're here."
The sticky darkness between the trees drifted with the wind. Moonlight sprinkled on the road but could not reach into the forest's shade.
Allen stroked his knife and stepped into the woods.
As he entered, the moonlight dimmed. Fallen leaves beneath his feet blew with the wind, accumulating in a thin blanket. The trees on both sides mirrored each other, making it hard to find direction.
Allen's fighting spirit surged through his limbs and bones. Amplified senses made his nose twitch from time to time. After passing a tree, his eyes lit up.
In his sight, a corner of the ground had fallen leaves obviously thicker than elsewhere. Under the leaves, something white peeked out.
A gust of wind blew. Moonlight escaped from the dense leaves and shone on the leaf blanket.
A human arm stuck out clearly illuminated.
Allen sneered and kicked away the leaves. The faces of three middle-aged men with hideous expressions appeared.
They stared at Allen angrily, wishing to tear him apart.
Allen squatted, squinting and wearing a sarcastic smile.
"Tsk, if Rudy was here, he'd definitely be scared of you. You're so miserable. Haven't any companions come to find you yet? You're a failure, a mess."
The three men's eyes were wide open but they said nothing.
Allen smiled, holding his chin pityingly.
"We were in such a hurry yesterday that we didn't interrogate you. Where exactly are you, a bunch of annoying maned wolves, hiding in the mud pit?"
His questioning words floated like a soliloquy, blown away by the wind.
No one answered.
Because corpses can't speak.
