Re:Zero - Reincarnated on a Co-op Route

Chapter 29: Moments of Calm 1

Subaru and Kaoru were in the dressing room of the mansion, surrounded by Emilia, Rem, and Ram. The atmosphere was charged with awkwardness as the maids tried to find clothes that would fit the two boys.

Kaoru was looking in a mirror with a jacket that was visibly too big for him, while Subaru was struggling not to rip a shirt that was clearly too tight for him.

"Is there really nothing in both of our sizes? " Emilia asked, tilting her head as she watched with curiosity and a hint of concern.

"Everything seems to fit us either too big or too small"

Kaoru replied with an awkward smile, tugging at the sleeves that hung down like curtains. "This is a disaster. "

"Unfortunately, I only have girls' sizes left..." sighed Subaru, resigned as he held a skirt in his hands and looked at it in horror. "I don't plan on wearing this."

Ram, seizing the opportunity, threw out a scathing comment with her usual mocking expression.

"You can always wear a maid's uniform, Barusu. I'm sure it'll look perfect on you."

Kaoru couldn't help but let out a low chuckle. "I won't deny it to you, Subaru. We look ridiculous."

Meanwhile, Rem was trying to take Subaru's measurements, but Subaru kept fidgeting, clearly uncomfortable with the proximity.

"O-hey... slow down. If a girl touches me like that all of a sudden..." stammered Subaru, completely blushing.

"Stop moving, Subaru," Rem said in a cold tone, holding him by the shoulders.

"This isn't a game."

"But you're touching me too close!" protested Subaru, letting out little moans of discomfort.

"Stop moaning," Rem replied earnestly, as she continued with her task as if nothing had happened. Kaoru, for his part, watched the scene with restrained amusement.

Finally, both boys ended up dressed in servants' clothes that clearly didn't fit them. Their jackets were too long, their pants too tight, and their shoes looked like they were from another era.

"This is a disaster" Kaoru muttered, looking at his reflection in the mirror.

"You will definitely embarrass Mr. Roswaal if you see them like this" Rem commented with a serious expression as she examined the two with a critical eye.

After a while, they both managed to get uniforms that fit them well.

Emilia, who had been watching silently, gave a small smile.

"Well, I must continue with my studies for the royal selection, so I'll leave the rest of the day to you. Good luck!"

"Leave it to us, Emi-tan!" exclaimed Subaru, trying to sound confident, though his appearance didn't help.

When Emilia came out of the dressing room, Ram took over with his usual authoritative tone.

"Okay, I'll give you a quick tour of the mansion. Pay attention, because I won't be repeating anything."

---

Ram led them through the halls of the mansion, pointing out key locations with a mixture of nonchalance and professionalism.

"This is the dining room. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served here. Don't be late, or you won't eat. "

"Not even a snack?" Subaru asked, raising his hand as if he were in class.

"Of course not," Ram replied disdainfully. "There's no room for laziness here."

Kaoru watched intently, but couldn't help but feel that the tour was more of a scolding than an instruction. After passing through the library, the dorms, and finally the kitchen, Ram stopped and looked at them with her arms folded.

"Any questions?" she asked, though his tone made it clear she wasn't expecting any.

"Actually, I—"

"Since you don't have any questions, we'll start with the assignments."

She pulled out a seemingly endless list and began reciting the activities they were to complete. Subaru and Kaoru exchanged looks of despair as she continued speaking without pause.

--[Time Skip]--

After hours of exhausting work, the two boys finally found a moment of rest. They sat in the back garden of the mansion, watching the sunset as they tried to catch their breath.

"This is ridiculous. I'm completely exhausted, " Kaoru said, wiping sweat from his forehead.

Subaru, sitting next to him, was looking at the ground with a thoughtful expression. Kaoru noticed his silence and decided to break the ice.

"Hey, Subaru. What happened that time in the forest...who killed you? I died before you did, so I have no idea."

Subaru pursed his lips and stared at his broom. His voice came out with a bitter tone. "...It was Ram."

Kaoru blinked, surprised.

"Ram? Why?"

"She found you and Rem dead. I was badly wounded. She thought we were from the Witch Cult and murdered me with a wind slash straight to the throat. "Subaru clenched the broom in his hands, trying to contain the frustration he clearly felt."

"Wind magic, huh?" Kaoru muttered, holding a hand to his chin. "That could complicate things. "

Subaru looked at him seriously. "I know it sounds crazy, but I don't think it's their fault. They're just protecting Emilia and doing what they think is right."

Kaoru snorted, incredulous. "How can you forgive them so easily? They killed you, Subaru. I don't know how many times."

Subaru lowered his gaze, his voice barely a whisper. "Because I love them."

Kaoru stared at him, surprised.

"What did you say?"

"I love them, " Subaru repeated with a small smile. "I know it sounds stupid, but... I can't hate them. They've taught me things. They've helped me. Those little things mean a lot to me."

Kaoru sighed, crossing his arms. "You're hopeless, you know."

They both laughed softly, letting the moment relieve some of the tension of the day.

"In that case, I guess I'll have to forgive them inside too," Kaoru said, smiling as he looked down at the ground.

Both boys headed to their rooms to find the training equipment Kaoru had requested from Roswaal. Upon entering, they found a set of limb weights, enchanted with the Vita spell, which allowed them to adjust the weight. By default, each weighed 10 kilograms.

Kaoru took the weights and began to place them on his wrists and ankles. "Bad memories," he muttered as he adjusted the straps.

Subaru, sighing resignedly, did the same. "Indeed," he replied, clearly unhappy with the idea of carrying extra weight.

They both knew that becoming stronger was crucial to survival in this world. It wasn't an option, it was a necessity.

As they prepared, they began to talk about how to deal with the twins' mistrust.

"She was asking me if I were a spy, wasn't she, if I worked for any of Emilia's rival candidates?" asked Kaoru.

"Yes," Subaru replied.

"Then we'll have to try our best to prove to them that we can be trusted. We both give off a miasma that they can smell. You know that, right? So we must give our 100% if we want to get out of this," Kaoru said seriously.

Subaru nodded silently, understanding perfectly what his friend meant.

Later, Kaoru decided to run around the mansion as part of her training. The weights in his limbs and the accumulated fatigue of the day made the exercise a real challenge. After only two laps, he fell to the ground, drenched in sweat.

"I guess I should get back..." he muttered as he checked his phone, seeing that 30 minutes had passed.

He struggled to his feet and started walking back, determined to continue to improve, not only for himself but for Subaru and the rest of the people who needed his help. The real work was just beginning.

--[Time Skip]--

Warm air and steam filled the mansion's thermal bath. The pool, designed in the shape of a circle, reflected the dim light from the magic lamps hanging on the walls, creating a relaxing atmosphere.

Kaoru let out a long sigh as he immersed himself in the warm water.

"Aaaahmmm... This is life~"

He murmured, closing his eyes and letting himself be carried away by the feeling of absolute relaxation.

From the other end of the pool, Roswaal, who was also enjoying the bath, replied in his characteristic tone

"I'm glad you like it, Kaoru-kun~. Nothing like a good bath to clear your mind, right?"

Subaru, sitting on the edge of the pool with his feet submerged, looked at the two with a mixture of envy and resignation. "I don't know if I'm as relaxed as you are... I feel like Ram watches over me even when he's not here," he commented, dropping his head back.

Roswaal, with his enigmatic smile, seized the moment to change the subject. "Tell me, how are you getting along with Rem and Ram? " he asked, tilting his head slightly as he watched them curiously.

Kaoru opened one eye and thought for a moment before answering

"I think things are going well between us. Rem seems to be starting to like me... although she's still somewhat reserved with me."

Subaru nodded, flashing a more relaxed smile. "I've been talking longer with Ram. She's... well, you could say she's friendly, in her own way." His tone had a sarcastic edge to it, clearly alluding to the older twin's constant teasing.

Roswaal let out a light, melodious chuckle, raising a hand to emphasize his point.

"Oh, yes, yes, yes~. They each have their own strengths and flaws, but together... together they are the perfect team. They cover each other's weaknesses and make a splendid duo, don't you think?".

Subaru and Kaoru nodded, albeit with somewhat exhausted expressions, as they recalled the long hours of work under the twins' supervision.

Roswaal continued, changing the subject with his usual theatrical tone: "By the way, did you like the gift I gave you? You know, the weights are enchanted with the spell that allows you to adjust their weight. Light or heavy, according to your taste~."

Kaoru nodded, crossing his arms as he floated in the water.

"It certainly comes in handy. I'll give you that, Roswaal."

Subaru, on the other hand, couldn't help but complain. "It's agony to wear them, but I admit they're handy... I suppose thank you. " His tone made it clear that he wasn't entirely convinced.

Roswaal waved a hand in the air casually. "Oh, you mustn't thank me. Thank Beatrice. It was she who enchanted the weights for you. A true masterpiece, don't you think so? "

Kaoru raised an eyebrow, thoughtfully. "Beako is very good with the Yin element, that's for sure. We should thank her tomorrow. "

Roswaal tilted his head, as if remembering something. "Beatrice is, without a doubt, the best Yin element user I know~!"

---

Kaoru emerged from the bath enveloped in the thick steam that filled the air. The heat had left him somewhat dizzy, but he knew he still had things to do: studying with Rem was his priority that night.

He opened the door into the hallway, letting out a cloud of steam that slowly dissipated. Just then, he ran head-on into Ram, who was walking along carrying a stack of perfectly folded towels. On top of the pile rested a small brief that, by its design, seemed to belong to Roswaal.

Kaoru froze for a moment as Ram looked at him with his usual neutral expression... though there was a slight glint of surprise in his eyes.

"Ram... " said Kaoru, trying to keep his composure. "What are you doing here so late?"

Ram looked him up and down, unfazed. Loading towels, as you can see. But it looks like you... forgot something important, " she commented with a dry tone, pointing towards him with her gaze.

Kaoru looked down, realizing that he was still completely naked. his cock and balls exposed "Ah, for the love of...! This isn't what it looks like. "

"Cover that from my sight, you pervert."

Kaoru let out a nervous laugh, bringing a hand to the back of his neck. "I would...if I had something to cover myself with. "

"I'm sorry to tell you that I'm done bathing so I won't bathe with you."

"Who said I wanted that?!" asks kaoru.

"Then why is your thing getting erect?"

Kaoru looks down and his big cock was fully erect and throbbing, excited to be near Ram. it would be about 21cm long.

"Don't make me touch it, or I'll scream, loudly," Ram says with an indifferent expression.

"Why would I force you to touch it?!" Kaoru gets embarrassed.

Ram continues to look curiously at Kaoru's throbbing boner for a few moments before looking him in the eye and handing him one of the towels.

"Here, try not to go out naked, there are people here, you know?"

"Thank you, Ram... you're an angel" Kaoru replied as he quickly wrapped the towel around his waist and hurried off to his bedroom.

Ram watched him as he walked away, letting out a small sigh before continuing on with his work. "Men..."

---

When Kaoru entered his room, he found Rem sitting at the desk, perfectly straight and with a calm expression. A candle lit the room, casting soft shadows on the walls.

"You're late, Rem mentioned calmly, not taking her eyes off the papers in front of her.

Kaoru let out a sigh as he searched for clothes in the closet. "Sorry. I had a little too much left over in the shower. "

He pulled on a pair of shorts and a plain t-shirt before sitting down next to Rem. The atmosphere was quiet, and the sound of Rem's pencil against paper filled the silence between them.

Kaoru began practicing the i-glyphs, carefully tracing each line in his notebook. It was tedious work, but he noticed that he was finding it easier and easier, thanks to the notes he had been jotting down. For some reason, the notebook was not affected by the loops, which was something he should investigate in the future.

Rem watched him out of the corner of her eye and commented softly, "You're doing well. Your strokes are firmer now. "

Kaoru smiled slightly. "Thank you. It's thanks to your teachings. Though I still have a long way to go to learn.

Rem nodded and continued to help him, correcting his mistakes and patiently guiding him. The night passed in silence, with only the sound of pencils and the occasional whisper of corrections.
