Chapter 332: A Signal
Chapter 332: A Signal
’I see’
Zydrax now understood.
’The demon invasion made my plans fruitless. So, the next thing...would be to flee the world’s will’
He nodded. ’In that case, I would want a strong host. But most likely I didn’t find anyone to my liking, so I strengthened the mana density to increase the odds’
He knew himself, that’s what he would have definitely done.
But something still bothered him, the last part.
’Why did I take out the little energy I had left to construct the Life Ark?’
Thanks to Ezra coming from the future, his soul held the Life Ark, and because he did not use it, it was at its base form, allowing Alvarach to thoroughly understand it.
Ezra said it worked like the Unlimiting Dew but better, unlocking one’s power as they killed monsters.
Zydrax was sure things weren’t so simple.
Nevertheless, he had to admit in both timelines, he was a genius.
The Life Ark was that good of a creation.
The more he experimented with it, the more he was astounded.
Moreover, it allowed him to breakthrough in understanding how to solve the heart problem.
Particularly, it gave him many more ideas on how to utilize negative mana, along with other perks that would have taken far longer to figure out.
It would be more surprising that he didn’t learn about negative mana during that time with how many demons must’ve died through the years.
’That’s right,’ Zydrax thought. ’The demons invaded and conquered a continent’
On that note, there were also many different things about the way it.
Stripped to its bare form, Zydrax accessed the intricacies, seeing many cases of which mana was interwoven with negative mana, placed like stepping stones against one another, taking advantage of their opposite natures to give the best effect.
’How long did I work on this?’ Zydrax wondered.
This was no one year project. It couldn’t be.
At the same time, with the first version in front of him, it brought forward its creation in this timeline, because Zydrax would definitely recreate it.
It was too good of a creation for him NOT to try his hands at creating.
Moreover, since another him built the first, he was definitely qualified and should be able to make the second even better.
’A mixture of dimensional essence, negative mana and mana set in perfect symphony with use of runes...wow’
The more he understood, the more amazed he was, and the more he looked forward to the end result.
Yet at the same time, pressure was mounting.
The apocalypse would begin at any moment.
No matter how much of the future Ezra knew, their influence had already changed so much that beyond the general trend of events, he dare not predict the timing of things in this timeline.
He could only work faster and harder to solve this issue, so Ezra could begin cultivating to breakthrough to the next rank.
Moreover, with the whirlpools, the planet was even more discoverable, but it was better for the inhabitants to grow, allowing them to resist, rather than prolonging the inevitable.
Meanwhile, with the whirlpools depositing mana into Orion, those in the barrier felt the surge first and foremost as it poured into the cultivation lands.
Their expressions told of appreciation, but no one opened their mouths, not to mention speak, as they filled their bodies with it.
They compressed the mana, holding it until they were sure they could not fail the advancement.
From the moment they began cultivating, everyone was in a silent competition, with seniors of the likes Raven and Mervida taking in more and more in an attempt to break through to peak Grandmaster level, while the likes of the siblings chased behind them to enter Grandmaster rank.
Beyond them, the world also entered a time of silence, stillness so to speak, as few people made big moves.
Empires and kingdoms thinking of expanding by grabbing the territories of vacant land didn’t make any moves.
Vacant land were kingdoms whose kings had been killed. Places without Grandmasters to head them.
Zydrax’s warning forced them to reconsider. It had been two weeks since the altercation.
If truly an enemy was coming to besiege them, and a Mythic had told them with such levity.
It would do them no good to waste forces at this period.
Besides, one could always conquer land, but if the enemy arrived and caught them lacking, they could lose everything in one fell swoop.
Along with that, the increase of mana density made cultivation an even more enticing activity, increasing cultivation rates by more than thirty percent over all of Orion.
No one wanted to be left behind, and unless they were to start a war to stop others from growing stronger, it only made sense to do the same thing.
Then, inhabitants in vacant land were in an all time emergency, not knowing when neighbouring kingdoms would come for them.
Until then though, they all started crazy training regimes to foster Grandmasters from the heap of talents available and with the mana density increased, they had a better chance at succeeding.
Many pieces were set in such a way that forced most people indoors to increase their strength either by cultivation or training.
As such, Orion entered a time of peace, giving many respite from the constant wars, especially Lexon inhabitants, it was long overdue honestly.
They had fought so much in this decade that everyone was very happy to just chill.
Farmers farmed, tailors sewed and Black Jaws sold.
Of course, they would always be oddballs.
Some people took this as an opportunity to conquer lands before the others.
As for why they thought they were strong enough to hold on to it, who knew what any human was thinking?
Twelve weeks passed, making it twenty two weeks since Alvarach’s death.
Vanessa broke through to Peak master rank at the eleventh week.
Only for another person to break through two weeks later, shocking everyone.
Jebas advanced to peak Grandmaster rank, becoming the envy of other Grandmasters as they felt his cultivation speed was too perverted.
Frederick deigned to keep his silence, but even he felt such a cultivation speed was just too perverse.
Eh, what was that? Ezra? One should’ve understood that that dude wasn’t human a long time ago.
All the siblings broke through to Grandmaster rank during this time, with Theron breaking through last at the sixteenth week.
No celebrations were made as they simply went back to cultivating after eating a meal at the town beside the barrier.
Elisa was frustrated at feeling such pressure from these youngins, as well as the fact that her daughter was now in the same rank as her and put up more effort.
Her efforts bore fruit as she broke through to Grandmaster rank in the nineteenth week.
She wasn’t the only one though, as Cabrera broke through to a minor rank as well.
Cabrera advanced to mid Grandmaster rank in the twenty second week.
Comparing breakthrough speeds, it seemed the rumour that people with spatial affinity cultivated slower than others was true.
Regardless, that changed nothing as they kept cultivating, wanting to play bigger roles in the coming calamity.
Around the same time, far far away, a beings eyes snapped open, revealing a light red with a slit in between.
’What’s this?’ The entity thought, slight, subtle, almost vibrations hit his scales.
No, it couldn’t be called vibrations, because it wasn’t actual sound, but signals sent through the psychic dimension.
Nothing special on its own, but his intuition pointed it out, telling that it was unusual.
"Hmm..." this creature contemplated, its figure obscured by the darkness it placed itself in.
Closing its eyes, this being calms and concentrates, putting all focus on the subtle vibrations around it before picking aside the one that aroused his intuition.
Then, using psychic energy, he traces it. Like honey flowing on a line of thread, his mind vision expanded, giving coordinates as he narrowed down the object of cause.
The more he traced, the more apprehensive he became.
It soon went beyond the reaches of his colony, past even the fringes of the world he’d known since birth, until finally, it landed on an inconspicuous planet rotating at its own pace.
With whirlpools all around it, the psychic vibrations were sent out as the being concentrated even harder to take a momentary feel of its surroundings.
’Ohh!’ The findings left this being astounded.
’There’s no mark!’
An unmarked planet!
’This is an opportunity!’ he thought, eyes glimmering as thoughts of fortune welled up, prompting a smile to emerge, showcasing his white jaw.
Having memorized its coordinates, this being cut off the psychic trace, erasing any evidence of its occurrence soon after before taking a deep breath.
Such a long trace and the momentary burst of energy took a lot out of him.
But it was worth it!
Looking left and right, he affirms once again that he is the only one in the nearby surroundings, nobody else was that much of a loner to be there.
’With how faint that signal is, by the time it gets to the colony, it would’ve completely sizzled’ thought this being. ’And I doubt anyone beyond me strays this far from the colony, so except there’s a Nascent-and I doubt they’ll take interest in such a thing-I’m the only one who knows about this’
His grin grew even wider.
’I should report this to the council...but then I’ll only be left with scraps’
He affirms his decision. ’I’m taking this for myself’
’But how?’ With a hand tapping his chin, he brainstorms a solution with no impatience whatsoever.
Time drizzled by as a tapping sound echoed through the abode he was in.
’It seems I will need a helping hand after all’ he reflects, lifting his body off the floor to reveal hind legs, a large head and skinny body covered in black scales, which is then garbed in brown armour.
Out of the abode, he takes off with a single leap.
Leaving the desolate planet behind as he races back to the colony to formulate a better plan.
Grinning all the way as he could just tell, this was his ticket to greener pastures.
And by the Great Galaga himself, he would not miss it.
Signals were sent all the time between many parties, and many times, what it was meant to convey and what was perceived were different.
But in all cases, regardless of perceived and conveyed intent, the parties captured each other’s attention.
Now, Orion had caught the attention of a colony resident, a young oddball looking for strength and riches.
For every action, the universe conjured up a reaction.
The ripple effect of this insignificant event was soon to unfold and the calamity, long awaited, would arrive without fail.
But time was uncaring of things, moving ceaselessly as another twelve weeks flashed by.
