Chapter 337: Ice source
Chapter 337: Ice source
There it was, the name they were looking for.
The Ice source.
’Oh, that’s right’ only then did Ezra remember.
"Based on the rumours at the time, the beasts were after the ice source. It was said to be a powerful treasure created in Sirion, and that it had ties to its creation...that’s as much I know"
Zydrax held his chin and nodded. "It does make sense"
"Unlike the four other continents, Sirion wasn’t always there. When I first inhabited the world’s will, it didn’t exist yet"
"About three decades later, I noticed it. A lump of ice in the middle of the ocean just enough to be a human’s footstool. It was completely out of place and I thought it would melt soon and took my mind off it to check other things. But to my surprise, when I checked a year later, it was only still there, the layer of ice had expanded"
"And you think the ice source is the cause?" Ezra conjured.
"I do, but I can’t affirm anything yet"
"Couldn’t it help with the negative mana problem?"
Zydrax gave a funny look. "You said it yourself, negative mana, the only artifact in Orion capable of adapting to negative mana is this Mana Cube"
"Still" Ezra didn’t let up. "It could be of help if we later have to go to the demon world"
"You want to go to Sirion that much?"
"It’s the only continent I haven’t been to. Besides, we’ve been frozen in this self made ditch for weeks, it wouldn’t be bad to have a change of scenery" Ezra replied. "Not to mention there’ll be many things to see along the way. Don’t you think staring at a frozen wall for so long is also limiting your resourcefulness?"
"Hmm" With such a convincing argument, Zydrax had to seriously consider it.
He’d been cooped up in here for over forty weeks, so surely it could have affected his creativity.
After all, the last breakthrough he had, came from a dungeon crystal, which he wouldn’t have found had he not ventured outside.
Right now he was stuck, and the bland atmosphere wasn’t helping.
With how things were going, they could very well end up going treasure hunting in the demon world.
’Before then, I might as well do some sightseeing’
Since taking over, even just coming into Ezra’s body, all they did was plan, cultivate and fight.
All in all, travelling to take some time to breathe fresh air was not a bad idea.
A person should stretch his bones from time to time you know.
As for the threat of dungeons, he didn’t expect them to suddenly increase the monsters or send stronger ones.
But even if they did, the Grandmasters would take care of it in lieu of his arrival.
Zydrax decided.
"At our speed, Sirion is about three weeks of travel, taking two weeks to find the Ice source, it should take only eight weeks" Zydrax calculated.
"Make that twelve, because we might find other things on our way. Besides, isn’t Lumeria close to Sirion, we could look around there as well"
"Fine" Zydrax nodded. "We’ll have to make sure to take ample provisions"
"Then I’d say you should get to work. Heh"
Placing the mana cubes in the space ring along with the energies after separating them, Zydrax lit up the abode with fire, turning the ice to vapour before exiting.
He spends the three hours explaining to Frederick how to maneuver the dungeons so that the deception continues unnoticed, and what to do in case of specific incidents.
After that, he checks the barrier and renews the formation for safety measures.
He deigned to tell anyone other than Frederick, he didn’t want news of his travel to spread.
Humans were stupid, many would surely have funny ideas once they knew.
He flies right out the barrier and toward the tallest building in Orion.
Black Jaws’ gleaming skyscraper, Black Sky.
Reaching its entrance, he finds it packed with people coming in and going out.
There were ten doors placed at the ground floor, five for as entrances, and five were exits.
But only four entrances and exits were being used.
Zydrax heads to the empty entrance and pulls out a unique gold coin before the guards could say anything.
With a simple look, the guards become extremely respectful, opening the entrance for him.
Inside, Zydrax goes right up to the eighth floor, and meets the head of the place.
What would know, it was a familiar face.
"Sebastian. So this was where he was?"
With the information agency having fulfilled its job, Sebastian had moved on to be head of Black Sky.
No longer a young man in his twenties, Sebastian had grown into a man, with lush hair, beard and a fit physique, he still had his glasses on.
This was the face that Ezra remembered, he was looking just like himself during his past life.
Moreover, he was far better off, emanating waves of early master rank.
From the looks of it, he broke through not long ago.
The man in question looked at Ezra in surprise.
"Excuse me, do I know you?"
Unlike his past life, Sebastian hadn’t once met Ezra ever since joining Black Jaws.
Showing his coin, Sebastian’s posture immediately changes.
"What would you like sir?"
"Show me around"
Three hours went by as Zydrax went round with Sebastian as his guide, picking anything he felt was worth taking.
Ezra nudged him to check if there was an artifact that could refine negative mana.
Unfortunately, there was nothing of the sort, things like this weren’t to end so easily.
In any case, it was a good time as Zydrax ate deluxe meals, the best yet.
Honestly, as a prince, wasn’t he supposed to have more of such occasions?
Exiting, he takes to the sky, taking one last look at Black Sky before leaving for Quarez once again.
He reaches Quartez, grabs Severus, shoves him into the space ring without giving him any chance to complain, and takes off right after.
This time, he exited on the western edge, where it was connected to the ocean.
Just like that, the journey to Sirion had begun.
Speed was essential in all endeavours.
While cultivation was impossible, using his mana for something such as flying had no connection with the volatility of his mana heart.
Besides, his mana still recovered, so he could stay airborne for as long as he wanted.
Which was exactly what he was going to do.
At the start of the journey, the breeze touching his face felt liberating.
Flying at high speeds, it would still take weeks to reach Sirion.
Until then, the ocean was their only friend.
As such, Zydrax decided to find something to busy himself with along the way.
Focusing his eyes, he sent concentrated mana towards fish in the sea while on the move.
Using them as target practice.
Felt nice to just drift through the atmosphere without a care in the world.
Occasionally, a creature would lunge from within the deep sea, aiming to catch the enormous presence they could feel.
Sometimes, it would be octopus and sometimes, it would be shark.
With a little stretching, they were all ripped apart and Zydrax continued on his way unperturbed.
—-----------
Four days in, the fishing game had gotten old, so Zydrax brainstormed a method to get to Sirion faster.
With the view of the ocean floor now seeming, Zydrax rose higher and higher into the sky to be amongst the clouds.
Another advantage Mythical ranks had over Grandmasters was higher survivability.
He now had a new and lovely view while also covering more ground, or was it Ocean?
Not enough, Zydrax covered himself in lightning, increasing his speed once again.
Only then did he feel like he was flying fast, feeling the sharp winds he didn’t pay much attention to the ocean below anymore.
With Sirion and Lumeria being continental landmasses, it was impossible to miss them.
Also, having inhabited the world’s will, Zydrax knew the direction better than anybody.
So it wasn’t too surprising when they reached Lumeria just two days later.
Landing, Zydrax decides to stay a night to calm his body before heading towards Sirion.
Lumeria was basically a beast sanctuary, being the continent housing the most amount of beasts on the entire planet.
It was basically a continent sized wild zone.
Upon landing, he had to take care of multiple beasts charging towards him.
About a dozen of them were B rank, able to match Expert ranks.
For him though, they weren’t much different to insects.
Slaughtering a few dozen, Zydrax brought our Severus, thanks to Ezra’s reminder.
*Hissss!
The snake was pissed, exuding a thick demonic aura as it lunged at Zydrax to bite him.
Zydrax simply closed its mouth with two fingers, shocking the snake before pointing towards the approaching beasts.
"This is a land filled with every kind of beast you can think of. So, stay here and grow stronger"
Alarmed, the snake cried out through their mental connection. "Master, are you abandoning me?!"
Ezra replied "Why would I abandon you? I’ll be back in a week, in that time, eat your fill and grow stronger"
"Really?"
"Really" Ezra replied.
Letting go of its mouth, Severus turned towards the beasts with eyes of realization.
Calm, its body spewed black lightning as it sped off, biting its first prey.
In minutes, the nearby beasts were dead, and rather than eating them, Severus sped off to find bigger, juicier prey.
Thanks to Cabrera serving high quality beasts to it, Severus had unknowingly gotten picky about food.
Taking out a mat and placing it in front of a tree, Zydrax sits, takes out a jug filled with rich non-alcoholic wine and chugs it down.
"You’re not afraid of it dying?" He questioned Ezra, wiping his mouth.
"It’s a SS rank beast, it’d be hard to find a match for it on this continent, and if it does die, whatever killed it will become my pet"
"Wise words" Zydrax nodded.
Beyond burning insects that got to close and killing beasts that refused to sense the danger, the day was
uneventful.
To put an end to the shenanigans, he simply cast a barrier covering himself and the tree.
Taking out a book, Zydrax basked in a comfortable silence and truly relaxed for the first time in a long while.
Munching on cooked meat bought from Black Sky, Zydrax thoroughly enjoyed himself.
So much so, he decided to stay for one more day.
Still, he stayed for one more day after that.
Then...actually, that was it.
After the third day, Zydrax forced himself back into the skies despite his reluctance.
A heavy storm began, Zydrax covered himself in fire, moving with stop.
Four days in, tall icebergs-the outline of Sirion-come into view.
After going through a bit of trouble, Zydrax had made it to the floating continent of ice.
