Chapter 24: shocking development
Evans, already done with the foul-smelling and depressing landscape for now, Makes his way back to the highlands. "So far, the places seem to match the game as I remember, so now I should focus on preparing for what is to come."
Ready to continue on his path to higher power, Evans sets off to find his first target: a Kirin. Evans chose the Kirin in order to try his hand at getting a second element. And if his ideas actually work, He might even save himself a lot of trouble. Over the next couple of days Evans, would patrol the higher parts of the highlands, looking for any signs of the electric unicorn.
Then one stormy evening, he found what he was looking for. Blue fur of the Kirin, still statically charged, meaning that it was close. Following the trail of fur patches and the occasional hoof print, He eventually makes it to the bowl shaped area where he had snatched a Legiana from a hunter.
Within it was the Kirin, having just driven off the local frost wing wyvern and now preparing to rest in its new territory. Evans was sure to not let that happen.
AughGROOOOOOOHH!
Releasing a long unused roar to announce his Prescence, Evans leaps into the arena like environment, Dorsal fins proudly displayed. The Kirin raises its head and stares at Evans. For a moment, neither make a move, analyzing the other wyvern in front of them. Then the Kirin, ready to take action, lowers its stance and... bolts?
Evans freezes, the second growl ready to provoke his opponent dying out in his throat. The wind brushes his scales as he takes a minute to process what just happened.
"It...ran? The coward just RAN!?" confusion melting away to unexplainable fury, Evans looks towards the direction the Kirin streaked off to and began to give chase. and for the next 5 hours, Evans found himself in an unexpected game of cat and mouse. At one point, Evans charged the Kirin as it was close to a wall, only for it to bolt over his head. He ended up crashing through the entire wall, his eyes landing on a now frightened group of hunters one of which was Grace, who had met up with a local hunting group ready to share her findings.
Evans, now having tunnel vison on the fleeting Kirin, only hissed out a warning to the group, and turned back, hoping to make up for lost ground for the third time this chase.
Watching Evans dash off, one of the hunters, entirely covered in armor, speaks from beneath his helmet. "Grace... Was that the variant you were just describing to us?" Equally flabbergasted, Grace simply nods her head, knowing no words right now could describe this random encounter.
Evans paid them no mind as he had only one goal on his mind: to KILL that Kirin! Night falls onto the highlands as the Kirin whinnies, clearly enjoying running circles around the dumb lizard that was chasing it.
Self assured that it lost Evans, The Kirin leaps up towards the mountaintops. The Kirin, looking around, sees no sign of Evans. It then kneels to the ground and closes its, giving its slightly sore legs a bit of rest. A seems quiet as the night continues on.
Fwooooosh
Something large suddenly flies past, startling the Kirin awake. Agitated, The Kirin scans its surroundings, looking for what had woken it up. seeing nothing, yet still wary, The Kirin slowly kneels down once more.
Crash!
A large shadow drops from the sky, directly pinning the Kirin down. As the debris settles, to monsters appear in view. The Kirin, dazed, looks above it, confused as how Evans, the dumb pink lizard in its mind had quite literally got the drop on it. Moments prior, Evans having seen the Kirin head to its nest, was about leap up and try and snatch it when he came up with a new idea. Looking to the very top where the Kirin had settled back to its base, Evans muttered "Smug bastard just you wait." Then Evans faced his head towards the ground with his back facing the mountainside.
Opening his jaw wide, Evans began to release a constant stream of fire. At first, except for the ground being scorched, nothing had happened. Not wanting to give up, Evans began to output more fire. And then it happened.
Evans felt his feet lift off from the ground as he slowly began to rise higher. Delighted it was working so far, Evans put more power into his flames. Unfortunately, the flames became a bit too strong, as Evans not only flew past his target, but was rising shakily by the mountain ranges. 'Dammit! too much power!' Evans immediately cuts the fire snapping his mouth shut. Likely from how powerful it was, Evans ended up on the side above the Kirin. 'Not as smoothly as I wanted but it works! I have achieved flight!'
Having took inspiration from Godzilla, Evans has managed to clear the mountain by flying using a concentrated beam of fire. Slamming down onto the now pinned Kirin, Evans wastes no time and rips off the head of the Kirin, swallowing it whole.
"Take that you lightning crapping horse! phew, now that I got that outta my system, time to get some well deserved rest."
Evans heads o his cave and lays his head, mentally tired from the taunting the Kirin had done.
The next day, Evans groggily opened his eyes. After lazily stretching, Evans makes his way to the lake in order to wash his fur coat on his back. 'Can't go running around with scruffs for a mane after all.' As he flares to clean them as well, he pauses, looking at his reflection in the pond.
"What the-!"
A/N: Hey there! I'm reaching out again to get another vote, this one though having a more immediate impact between Evans and Astera. Should he:
1) become neutral with Astera
2) sworn enemies, always seeking the chance to harm the other (The commission has been somewhat lenient with him so far)
this is a big choice that will make Monday's chapter(s) play out based on your picks, so vote if you wish to.
