Chapter 235: 234. Season of light, 5
(Licht)
I've returned home. Where it all began for me.
I've left everything that mattered to me beyond, between the gently hands of Rose's only friends.
I left everything I still cared for in their care, and warned them of what was coming.
And they have left. They understood I was sincere, and they went north in a truck. They vacated the land of Dragod the same day. All that remains, is for me to do my part.
~
They lived not far from one of its head or mouth. It would have become dangerous for them to stay in the area, with what is likely to come...
I will free my people... Free the other roses from the tyranny of their creator...
No matter what cost.
I walk barefoot in the field, heading toward the woods a mile further maybe.
I'm alone.
I'm the only one who can and will, stop god.
This is judgement day. The end of times under the rule of god...
Today I judge you for what you have done, god. Today is the day you face the consequences.
I walk into the woods that will awaken.
I feel light. My hollow eye hurts a little, now of all times. It itches. My heart itches.
God... Free the roses... Or face demise from the hands of your first child.
I think out loud. I want it to hear me.
I want it to think about it again.
That maybe there is a solution which does not involve either of us dying.
Can peace be achieved, between roses and Dragod?
I ask it.
I ask you.
Perhaps it can smell the death growing in my aging body.
Perhaps it suddenly wants revenge for what I stole, or what I am and represent.
Perhaps I am but a threat, and no diplomacy could undermine that fact.
Dragod... I have mixed feelings about you as I know you never intended anything evil.
But I want the roses free.
Now and forever.
I know you can hear me now. I'm right above you. My thoughts and my voice are like whispers in your hears.
L - What is your answer?
The winds disappear. It's about to reply.
My heart beats faster in this silence.
What will you say and decide?
Peace, diplomacy, or war?
~
The ground begins to tremor.
I am ready to hear its reply.
I'm ready to die if that's the price to pay.
I'm ready to fight if no word can change the facts.
I hear a distant and deep rubble.
I feel as if lightning had struck all around me, the air is cracking apart, fissured, dry and ionised.
My hair is rising over me.
The light of day lowers ahead. And suddenly, the entire forest jumps around me.
Trees are uprooted and standing still in mid-air for a second, surrounded with dirt and rocks.
It lasts but an instant. I see everything around me suddenly uprooted.
As if thunder destroyed everything solid that makes the ground what it is. An awful earthquake shakes everything. Ripples stretch the ground as they spread.
A sudden movement of something enormous within the ground.
What I didn't thought possible before dozens of years if not hundreds.
Dragod is moving its entire body.
A colossal structure I though maze-like from within, shapeless and random, suddenly emerges from the land, and jumps straight out from its cradle of earth.
I feel gravity, the weight of my own body, being multiplied manifold, as the ground I stand on suddenly rises into the air.
The forest is reduced to broken pieces crushed all around me. I see the sky falling down as I get on all four under my own weight.
I release my light and stand up. It's not rising, it's flying I think...
I hear the odd screams of mountains erupting and being crushed all along their lengths.
An abyss is opening itself before me. A mouth...
Alright...
I jump and fly off as it pursues me to get me.
~
A flying mountain going after a single spark of light into the sky, like a heavy cloud not far above the land.
I could have unleashed all my power in vain, it was too big for me to destroy.
On the other side, it did not hold back at all.
It tried to catch me, to crush me, to vaporise me with fires or vacuums.
Any way possible it could find, Dragod used to kill me.
I fought. I flew as high and fast as I could. All the strength I possessed were no match for this landmass coming right at me.
Explosions struck, and in the end, it got me.
I lost this fight.
I lost the stupid show of strength...
But certainly not the war yet.
~
As god presumably landed again, I was being digested, channelled through the beast, and drained of both my life and my accessible power. Rather slowly still.
It wants something from me alive.
A last chance at diplomacy perhaps, now that the poison from Rose Blume's automatic resurrection is spreading within its bloods. I can feel that its structure is weakening.
I'm brought through pipes and spat into a puddle inside a biological cave deep within.
In front of me is a giant egg. Something similar to the ones that create human bodies, roses bodies.
Only this one looks different. Bigger?
I try to stand up. Two mindless roses grab my arms and lock them between theirs, holding me down on the ground.
I hate you god.
Anger rises as they hold me on my knees.
Inside the egg covered with rocks like an actual egg, not the usual fleshy ones, lies a part of Dragod than can speak.
D - What have you done?
L - Free the roses or die. You're their god no longer.
D - Why?
L - I know you don't mean that in a spiteful way. If you truly want to know why, you will have to survive this day. You need to give them up first.
D - Why do you care about roses now, of all times?
L - Roses mean everything to me. And they need to be free from your will. Today, right now, is your last chance.
D - You're dying, Rose.
L - So will you, and my name is Licht.
It doesn't understand. It tries to, but fails to...
The talk falls flat and pointless.
Like before.
Like always...
I'm sorry for you god.
You will die.
I stand up forcefully, throwing the two women aside in a sparky flash of light.
I then release my strongest toxic light, against what lies in front of me.
It's melting, it hurts me as well. It's not enough.
Somewhere along, the apparent death of Rose brought the insidious poison I've made against it.
It's working. It must.
God is falling apart. It's becoming fluid and falling like melting ice cream...
The dragon is melting from inside, and the invisible poison I've spread through its blood by wounding Rose Blume.
God didn't realise what was happening, its body lacking nerves.
God is suddenly dying.
I make my light grow stronger, roaring the end, and making everything gradually disappear.
It's suddenly over for you...
~
