Chapter 239: 238. Radiant day, 4
(Myls)
The truth about this place spread rapidly amongst the roses.
That the real one was healing here. And that she wouldn't be alone when she wakes up.
My rose wrote me a few words I managed to translate.
One person among thousands can feel lonely and insignificant.
That anxiety of anonymity can be heavy it seems. I wouldn't know. The anxiety of being useless can be painful.
Looking at my rose and her sorrowful eyes turned toward me, I'm afraid that many of them might begin to break down mentally.
They felt a shock seeing this one true Rose, sleeping, unaware of their suffering.
Jealousy, anger, sorrow, and a deep feeling of being insignificant. They probably have it rough.
Rose being there... It's doing harm to them. I can't deny that.
I guess they need a new start, and Rose reminds them of the reason of their existence.
While they're painfully aware, and trying to find a new reason to live, she doesn't help by reminding them what they were born as.
The oldest rose we met, the one using crutches to walk as her feet were cut some time ago, she came with Zeslinry and the second arrival of roses.
This one is different. Not much, as she looks older, or because her feet are missing from longer than the other wounds they suffer from.
No, it's because she has this evil eye all the time.
More than anger, it's hatred.
This rose, when she saw the cocoon of Rose, I could tell what kind of thought crossed her mind. We all could.
She wanted to kill her.
When asked, she called herself the second advent of Licht. I don't know what she means by that, but from what she said to the others, it seems she met Licht and was freed by her long before the others.
I don't know what to make of it, but we all can see this rose is now wicked, bitter, and poisonous.
All the roses can see it, and feel depressed that they might end up like this bitter person.
What should we do? There is tension in the air, between her and the cocoons we hold here.
~
We discussed the matter rather openly, in the biggest room of the manor.
All the roses, me and Zeslinry the wise and kind.
We made things clear. Us two planned to rebuild a haven and scavenge the country in doing so.
They were all welcome to help us do so, and stay with us for the remaining of our life.
No exception.
As for the Rose and the Blue, it seemed very likely to us that they would quickly leave the country again after awakening.
Maybe to find a new way to cheat death, probably more simply to travel and live elsewhere together.
So the roses wouldn't be bothered too long by Rose most probably.
We all knew the second Licht wanted to kill her and addressed the subject as well.
All the roses had this idea crossing their mind for themselves as well... That was a little awkward to hear them confess it one after another. They're all in pain.
M - Licht, please, stay with us here. Live with us and help us. I'd like that.
There was some heart felt emotion in that. I meant it. My roses fingers clenched my shoulders slightly tighter.
The Licht was conflicted and made a pained face to avoid crying.
She convinced herself long ago that she needed to be evil to live. I can't beat that in a single day. But she didn't refuse my offer. She spent the remaining time her head down.
The roses are all of different ages, and a different amount of memory working as a slave was unlocked for each of them. This explains some of the differences.
The older ones, like Licht or mine, are the most damaged.
We also have two broken ones. They don't really hear us at all, but they're calm for now. They're like dolls most of the time, uncanny.
Most of the roses want to live with us and work the earth into crops. A few want to try their chance into the world.
They'll always be welcome here.
Slowly, despite the initial fears and tension, everyone found a way to go. Roads will change, but they began scattering.
The roses found their peace of mind, and began to spread.
Zeslinry left with a bunch of them to show them around and discuss agriculture.
I went outside to walk with mine.
She follows me like a dog or a bodyguard.
It's getting dark.
Crossing the domain, we reach the unused closed gate with a small security office. Basically four walls and a roof, an old desk and weeds everywhere.
I remember thinking of pushing her down here.
I instead climb onto the roof and sit there, looking at the scenery. My rose follows easily. She's fit and recovering well.
M - I'm sorry. I'm not her. Neither Blume nor Blue.
- I know.
M - And you're not Rose either.
- I know.
M - You will never forget them, though. They are a part of you.
- I don't... Think I will ever forget them... But... I...
She doesn't know what to say. She's still feeling lost. I hold her hand and look at her slightly embarrassed by what I'll say.
M - Please, stay with me. Please stay alive for me and with me. Forever if you want. We'll find you a name.
She's surprised. I'm holding her hand tightly. She looks at it with a blank face, and then at me. She can hear my heartbeat and see my loneliness.
My fear of being alone, of being useless and lost, lonely, is as real as hers. She sees it.
She meekly says yes. My heart races. I hold her head and kiss her. I don't care if I'm young and if she's a clone.
She's the one I want with me from now on.
She actually chuckles one I release her mouth.
M - Did you smile? So soon?
- You reminded me of someone Rose knew, at first. But you're actually much sweeter than the crow.
M - The crow? Is it because I have black skin?
- Ah ah, no. You're nothing like the crow. And why you love me this much...
M - Live with it. I love you. I want you. We'll find our reasons later.
Before she can mumble a response, I quench my thirst for kisses again. I don't know why I can't get enough of that.
And I don't care as long as she doesn't mind.
She's laughing a little between my kisses and shares the touches too.
We keep doing so there until it's too dark and cold.
We head back home holding hands.
One day Rose will leave again.
One day this place will work by itself.
One day after that, I will leave with my rose and see the world too.
