Chapter 135: A False Reality Sphere
Not done touring the town, Arthur's steps were interrupted when his eyes were drawn to one point. There, he saw a crowd of people looking up at the stage.
To Arthur's surprise, a man dressed in ash-covered clothes was on the stage, kneeling while resting his head on a wooden backrest. Instead of hanging, he was being beheaded.
This was the second time Arthur had seen an execution, after he had previously seen Misa almost hanged to death for his mistake on the 10th floor. However, Arthur had no specific reason for saving this one. He didn't want to get into any further trouble.
"Today, the Night Liberators decided to hold another execution. The first prisoner is Nash, 30 years old, with the alleged crime of conspiring with Sky Sword!" said the officiant of the procession, a middle-aged man with a Night Liberator uniform attached to his body.
A man came onto the stage carrying a wooden box. The officiant opened the box and showed the objects to the people.
Arthur nodded slowly. The objects he took were a uniform, a small flag, and a letter with the Sky Sword logo.
"This evidence is more than enough to prove he's a Sky Sword member!" he said.
"To hell with you people!" snapped Nash, still rebelling, which indicated that all the evidence was rightfully his own.
'The law really runs wild in this place; every floor has its own rules,' Arthur replied.
With a firm order from the middle-aged man's mouth, he ordered the executioner to start carrying out the execution.
A large, sharp sword was held in the hands of the well-built executioner, who wore a head covering made of ash-colored sackcloth.
SLICE!
The sword's swift and powerful swinging motion created a smooth, steady cut. Nash's head was chopped off and fell into the wooden basket, with blood flowing profusely from the severed veins in his neck.
The people did not respond with a look of fear; instead, they applauded and cheered for the glory of the Night Liberators. Arthur didn't want to be suspicious, so he did the same as them.
Not just one, but two others were about to be executed. They received the same accusation, betraying the Night Liberators by supporting Sky Sword.
They got what was coming to them, but one prisoner kept evading by saying that he was framed. Still, people believed the words of justice since he was a member of the Night Liberators.
That's right! The people in the city had reached a dangerous stage of thought. They would follow their leader's words, whether right or wrong, good or bad. They just wanted to live a little longer in their fear.
"Daddy!" cried an 8-year-old girl, brought unethically near the execution stage on the pretense of letting the girl know what her father died for.
'This is getting too much,' said Arthur.
SLICE!
"DAD!" she screamed again, with tears flowing through her small cheeks. Her mother tried to calm the girl down as she hugged her, keeping her away from the execution site.
Cheers echoed from the people, ignoring humanity in favor of their survival. Arthur glanced back, seeing the woman carrying her child away from the execution site and arriving at a restaurant.
Arthur stopped watching the execution and stepped closer to them until he reached the front of the restaurant.
It was just a small restaurant serving eastern cuisine, identical to the accessories and trinkets that decorated the place.
He stepped inside and saw that nobody visited it. The restaurant was home to a small family. Arthur faintly heard crying from the second floor of the restaurant.
Since it was fairly quiet, Arthur dared to enter the kitchen and took the stairs to the second floor. There, he saw three different room doors. The sound of the girl crying came from the room on the right, clearly heard when Arthur arrived at the place.
Without thinking, Arthur opened the door to their shock. Unlike the mother who stood firmly guarding her child, the girl stopped crying and hugged her mother in fear.
"Who the hell are you?!" the woman shouted.
"Is the beheaded man your husband and father?" asked Arthur flatly.
"Why? The Night Liberators promised not to interfere in our lives anymore. You must keep your word!" said the woman.
Arthur stepped inside and closed the door. He already knew what he was gonna do to the two of them, something that would take away the sadness and loss they were feeling right now.

A small purple magic orb appeared at the tips of two fingers of Arthur's right hand. The woman before him gasped, immediately holding the girl's hand in a tight grip.
"So, you want to kill us here, huh?" she asked, confirming.
"No, I don't. I want to bring you back to life."
Arthur released the purple magic forward and hit both of them. The purple magic ball enlarged and instantly enveloped both bodies in a new reality manipulation.
Arthur's eyes closed. He could see the family's memories in simple glimpses. The man smiled. They could live happily amidst the grip of the authoritarian regime of the town's ruler.
After understanding their memories, Arthur ordered the new reality to work. Inside the purple ball of light, the walls turned into a projection of the beautiful image of the place full of lush garden playgrounds.
Their bodies were silent, but their minds and souls were confined within the vast domain reality Arthur had created. He brought out the person they loved to be there, talking and playing together.
To Arthur, they had been in the dome for five minutes. But to them, they had been in Arthur's reality domain for decades.
Arthur didn't show them the moment of execution. He showed them the moment when they were living happily as a family.
Perceptions were formed, sad hearts faded into joy and relief, and tears no longer flowed from the corners of their eyes. Now, they only knew their husband was away on a raid and would return soon.
The memory of the man's death was erased by Arthur. They would not know about it, even if the townspeople tried to remind them of the incident, they still would not remember anything.
"I think this is enough."
After 10 minutes of reality manipulation, Arthur clenched his right fist and created a fading reality domain wall. The mother and daughter's eyes opened again, and saw Arthur's figure with a stern look on his face.
"W-Who are you?" the woman softly asked.
"I'm Arthur. I'm Dion's friend."
"Dion? How is he? Is he coming home?" asked the woman, sounding enthusiastic, as did her daughter.
Arthur smiled and nodded, saying he would be home. He also told you to wait patiently, as Dion always thought of his family during the raid.
"Once he reaches Lilith City, he will use the stone light to get to this town. You have nothing to worry about," Arthur replied.
"So, you came here solely to tell us about that?" the woman asked, and Arthur said yes.
"One thing you need to know about him."
"He loves you very much. So, you have to keep living and doing your normal activities to keep him from worrying."
"Can you do that?"
