Chapter 11: 11. Never let my child grow up here
The car eventually came to a stop in front of the same mansion Lucia had found herself in days earlier.
Only now did it truly hit her, she hadn't sleepwalked here before. She had been brought here or rather kidnapped because she did not come here other own will.
She turned her head toward Kaiden, a cold realization settling over her. He had orchestrated everything.
When the door opened and Kaiden harshly pulled her out, her eyes locked on a familiar face. The kind man who had offered her a ride the day she ran away stood at the driveway, expressionless.
A sinking feeling grew in her chest.
He hadn't helped her out of kindness. He had been watching her. Sent by Kaiden.
How foolish could I be? she thought bitterly. How naive…
Kaiden dragged her toward the entrance without a word. His grip was strong, his pace swift. Inside, servants lowered their heads respectfully, though their eyes widened at the rare sight.
Their Alpha, dragging a woman into the house like a storm.
Lucia tried to resist, but her legs were weak, her breath shallow. Kaiden's strides were so long, she could barely keep up. He didn't so much as glance at her as he flung open a large door.
He pulled her inside and threw her forward. She stumbled, landing on her knees with a startled scream.
Without a word, Kaiden turned and walked out, the heavy door slamming behind him. A moment later, she heard the lock click.
Tears stung her eyes.
"What did I do to deserve this?"
She sank to the floor and wrapped her arms around herself. She didn't even want the bed. She just wanted to disappear.
She cried silently, muffling the sound so no one would hear. She didn't want to provoke him further.
---
Meanwhile, in the hallway, the servants exchanged nervous glances.
"The Alpha brought her back…" one of them whispered.
"She's the one. The only woman who made him smile, for a whole day."
"But now…"
"She must have angered him. Poor thing. She's probably not going to make it through the night."
"No one crosses Alpha Cross and lives to tell the tale."
"If she dies, we better pray we're not next. When he's in a bad mood, no one is safe."
Just then, Samael, the Alpha's driver and trusted delta walked by and barked, "What are you all standing here for? Get back to work!"
The servants scattered in fear, whispering prayers under their breath.
---
Lucia lay on the floor, still trembling when the door creaked open again.
She jerked upright.
Kaiden.
He stood in the doorway, his tall figure casting a long shadow into the room.
Lucia's breath caught.
"What do you want? Don't come near me!" she shouted, scrambling back until her body pressed against the wall.
But he didn't move. He just stared. His green eyes unreadable. Cold.
Lucia's heart pounded in her chest. The silence was heavy, stifling.
Kaiden didn't speak. He just took a single step forward. Then another.
Lucia's body stiffened.
"Don't come closer," she said, her voice barely more than a whisper. "Let me go. Please."
Still, he came closer.
"Please," she repeated, more desperate now.
Kaiden paused, tilting his head slightly. His mouth curled into a smile. But there was no warmth in it. Only shadows.
"Please?" he echoed in a low, hoarse voice, laced with sarcasm.
Lucia's entire body trembled.
"What… what do you want?" she asked, voice shaking.
Kaiden didn't answer. His eyes flickered down to her lips, then back up to her wide, fearful eyes.
Lucia could feel the heat in the room rise. She tried to look away, but his gaze held her like a vice.
Without warning, Kaiden stepped forward and grabbed her by the arms.
Then, he kissed her.
Hard.
His lips crashed into hers with so much force that she gasped. He bit down, sharp enough to draw blood.
She tried to shove him away, but he was immovable.
Just as suddenly, he pulled back.
His tongue flicked over his lips, tasting the blood. His expression was unreadable.
Then, without a word, he turned and walked out of the room.
Lucia sat there, frozen. Her heart was racing. Her lips stung. Her thoughts were a whirlwind.
And then, betrayal hit.
*Why did part of me react to that?*
She hated herself for the butterflies in her stomach. For the flicker of warmth that had passed through her chest right before the pain came.
Lucia hugged her knees, trying to ground herself.
He's insane. He's dangerous. He's not human.
She touched her neck. The bruises from before still ached.
She stood up and walked slowly toward the window, drawing the curtain open. The moon hung above her in full glory, bathing the room in pale silver.
"Please let this be a dream", she thought.
'Please let me wake up in my kindergarten classroom with juice in my hand and stickers on my notebook.'
She climbed onto the bed not for herself, but for her baby. The baby whose father was a dangerously hot lunatic.
There was no way she would ever tell him.
He would never know. Over her dead body.
Her child would never grow up under that roof.
What she didn't know was that Kaiden already knew. And he had no intention of letting her go. Not now. Not ever.
Lucia slowly rocked herself on the bed, humming softly to calm her nerves.
All she wanted was to go back to her quiet life. Her simple routines. Her little apartment. Her best friend, Cassandra.
Her eyes shot open.
Cassandra.
She must be losing her mind with worry.
Lucia lunged for her phone, only to find it dead. No wonder she hadn't heard it ring.
She searched the room, finally spotting a charger far from the bed. She plugged in the phone and returned to the mattress, lying flat on her back, eyes wide open in the moonlight.
She didn't sleep.
She couldn't.
Not in this house. Not with him so close.
Not when every breath felt like it might be her last.
