Chapter 10: To New Friends
---Third Person POV---
"No! No you don't just get to say I told you so to us! What the hell was that back there?!'
Yang's expression could only be described as a mixture of awe, confusion, and anger. The anger mostly being due to the little quip from Ryze.
"I'm just saying. I told you guys I had it. Don't know why you're all so surprised."
"Excuse me?! Of course we're surprised! You just annihilated two A class grimm singlehandedly and don't even look the faintest bit tired! I can't believe you have the nerve to wonder why we're all surprised," Weiss exclaimed with aggressive annoyance building in her voice.
"Exactly. They were just A class grimm. Trash. Nothing more than that."
At that statement everyone went silent again, simply staring at Ryze in disbelief. They couldn't understand what he'd just said. Did he really consider A class grimm to be trash?
"Umm, Ryze?"
"Yeah Ruby?"
"Most A class grimm require either skilled professional hunters or at least a normal group of four huntsman to take them down. I mean, maybe all eight of us together could've beaten the both of those grimm together, but I don't think I could take down either of them by myself. I don't know about the others here, but I think they might agree with me."
A chorus of subdued agreements came from the rest of the group as they all knew they couldn't handle an A class grimm by themself. At most, each of them might be able to handle a B class grimm like a king taijitu on their own with a lot of effort.
With curious but also worried eyes, Ruby looked at Ryze as she said, "Didn't you learn this in your training academy? Or whoever taught you how to fight? I know you mentioned being mostly self trained before, but someone must have taught you about hunter related stuff."
"Not really. Ruby, I never went to a hunter training academy before Beacon or had someone teach me anything. I learned to fight on my own. I also learned how to kill grimm on my own."
"What?!"
Both Weiss and Yang screamed out when they heard Ryze say that.
"What do you mean you've never had anyone teach you anything?! You're telling me you became like this on your own? You managed to beat two A class grimm singlehandedly with no formal training?!"
"Weiss, it's not that impressive. Anyways, we should probably head back to Professor Ozpin. Don't wanna just sit here and attract more grimm. Might as well finish the initiation now since we've all got our pieces."
With expressions of shock still plastered on their faces, the rest of the group decided to just go with it and followed Ryze as they walked back to the starting area. As they walked, the group eventually regained their bearings and began to chat with each other, everyone learning each others' names and small details about one another.
---A few hours later---
Ozpin walked onto stage and began to announce the team pairings for those that had passed initiation.
"With Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long, we have team RWBY. Lead by none other than miss Rose."
"Me?!"
"Her?!"
Weiss and Ruby's reaction seemed to share the same thoughts on that announcement. However, before either could ask more from Ozpin, he continued on with the next team.
"Now for the team with Ryze Prominence, Lie Ren, Pyrrha Nikos, and Nora Valkyrie, we have team KRNN. Lead by none other than mister Prominence."
"Huh, didn't think I'd be chosen as leader."
Everyone from the group turned their heads towards him with the most deadpan looks on their faces.
"Don't you dare even start," Weiss said with annoyance.
"Yeah, there was no way in hell you weren't going to be leader dude," Yang commented from next to Weiss.
"Yippee! Ren, we have a new fearless leader! And he's super duper strong! Oh! You think he could super charge me through my semblance? I wanna taste the lightning!"
Nora's typical hyper attitude was balanced out by Ren's calm responses to her.
"No Nora, we shouldn't just try his semblance on you. Who knows if you could even handle that sort of power."
"I'm down to test lower bursts of power with her. Seems like fun Nora. Anyways, guess it's time for us to move into our dorm rooms huh?"
As Ozpin's final announcements for teams ended, everyone began to file out of the room to find the dorms they had been assigned to.
"Would you look at that. Guess we're right across the hall from each other team RWBY."
Ryze wasn't lying when he said right across from each other. The doors to each teams respective dorm were quite literally directly across from each other in the hallway.
"That's so cool! We can have so many meetings between teams and hang out!"
"That sounds like a wonderful idea Ruby. We could also have sparring matches between teams and train together," Pyrrha suggested to everyone.
"Honestly, I just wanna unpack quickly and get ready for bed. This day's been exhausting."
No one could argue with Yang's statement. All of them were pretty tired from waking up so early and going through initiation.
"Guess we'll see you guys tomorrow then for our first classes. Night team RWBY!"
All of team RWBY replied with a goodnight as well and went into their dorm while Ryze and the rest of his team went into theirs. They spent about half an hour unpacking and figuring out which beds they were going to sleep in. It went by surprisingly quick since Ryze, Nora, and Ren didn't really have much with them. Only Pyrrha had a lot of stuff, but it wasn't even a lot compared to a normal amount of luggage. A little while later, everyone prepared for bed and went to sleep.
---An hour later/First Person POV---
"This seems like a good spot for some training."
I was at one of the cliffsides near the edge of the campus. A little bit out and hidden by some trees. Unless someone was specifically looking for me or knew the area, most people probably wouldn't come by.
'I know I have Sukuna's abilities and experience along with my lightning manipulation, but I still want to see if I can push myself forward by figuring out what my semblance is, if I even have one. Honestly, even if I don't it's fine since the powers I have are already way more than enough.'
With that thought, I drew my aura out and began to manipulate it in any way I could. Surprisingly, it wasn't too difficult to enhance the strength of its protection and where it fortified and protected my body. Outside of that though, I couldn't get it to do much else.
'God damnit, do I really not have a semblance? I know most people might not discover their semblance fast, but with Sukuna's talent and experience in manipulating energy, I'm sure I'd have found something by now if I did have a semblance.'
In a last ditch effort our of frustration, I built up as much aura as I could before outwards in front of me. Typically, that'd probably just be a waste of aura that might provide some extra defense on the front of your body in combat. However, something happened that made me ecstatic.
A burst of energy burst forward as the land in front of me was ripped up and sent flying. At that moment, something inside me clicked. It was almost instinctual. I raised my right hand and outstretched it towards the flying piece of land. It paused in mid air before flying back to me and stopping in front of me.
"Well would you look at that. A semblance of attraction and repulsion. I don't think I could've asked for much better."
A grin stretched across my face as my body and mind began to familiarize itself with my semblance. There's going to be so many things I could do with this.
