Chapter 8: Beacon Academy
---A few days later---
My lease ended the day before I went to Beacon, which was perfect timing. I also said goodbye to the old man that owned the shop. He was really nice about me leaving after only working there for a few months. He even encouraged me to do my best in becoming a huntsman. What a nice guy.
Anyways, now I'm on one of the first bullheads towards Beacon. After making sure all of my luggage was secured, I started to wander around the bullhead to check it out. Technology in this world really was different in a lot of ways compared to Earth. Looking around though, I did spot a girl with a red cape and a blonde with some wild hair.
As I approached them, I heard the ending words of a conversation.
"I don't wanna be the bees knees! I just wanna be a normal girl with normal knees Yang!"
I smiled to myself, recognizing the iconic humorous line. As I neared them, I spoke out, "Hey Ruby! It's nice to see you here."
The moment I said those words, Ruby's head snapped towards me, her eye widening in recognition. At the same time, Yang glanced over with curious eyes.
"Ryze! It's so good to finally see someone I actually know! I was panicking, thinking I'd be surrounded by strangers and Yang!"
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean Rubes? Aren't I your amazing big sis? Who else would you need? Though, I am happy you have a friend. Now, mind introducing this guy to me? I've heard only a bit about him from you Rubes."
"Oh! Right, this is Ryze! The guy I was telling you about. He's super strong! When we were fighting together he was like bang! Boom! Pow! And super cool! Ryze, this is my older sister Yang! She's gonna be a first year here at Beacon with us."
"Nice to meet you Yang. As Ruby already said I'm Ryze. It's nice to be able to meet someone else before initiation. And Ruby, I wasn't that impressive. Miss Goodwitch was also putting in work herself. Speaking of..."
To the left of me, a hologram of Goodwitch popped up. She began to introduce Beacon and welcomed everyone.
A few minutes later, after talking to Ruby and Yang for a bit, the bullhead landed and everyone started filing out. However, the moment Ruby, Yang, and I stepped out Yang got swept up in a crowd of what I assume to be people she knew.
"I'll see you guys later! Ruby make sure to make some more friends! And Ryze, make sure she doesn't blow herself up or something!"
"Hey! Yang wait! Don't just leave... me..." Ruby sputtered out, comically spinning around from the mess of people that just swept by. Right as she fell forward, a girl and her cart of luggage happened to pass by.
"Hey! Watch it!"
Ruby fell right into the cart, knocking a few boxes over. Luckily, I managed to react in time and swiped up each of them, carefully placing them all back in place within a second.
"You really should watch out Ruby, you might've crashed into someone or knocked over all of this girl's luggage."
"He's right! What in the world were you thinking? Do you know what this is? Pure, high grade dust! It's extremely volatile!"
As the girl, who I realized was Weiss, said this, she grabbed a vial of dust out of one of the suitcases. However, while she was shaking it in front of Ruby's face, the lid seemed to be loose and some dust got into Ruby's nose. Right as she was about to sneeze, I quickly placed my hand on Ruby's mouth and nose, snuffing her sneeze out before anything could happen.
"That being said miss, I don't think you should be shaking around said dust like that. If Ruby here had sneezed into the dust, that might've caused quite an accident."
Weiss' cheeks reddened as she embarrassingly put the dust away back in her suitcase.
"Well, maybe that is true, but still! She is extremely clumsy! I do apologize for the near accident though..."
As Weiss apologized briefly to Ryze, a girl from nearby with long black hair and a large black bow on top of her head walked towards them.
"To be expected of a Schnee though, blaming others without looking at themselves first," the girl commented.
"Wha- How dare you! Why I've never-"
Before Weiss could even finish her sentence, the girl who I recognized as Blake walked off without a care. This seemed to infuriate Weiss as she stormed off with her luggage. I looked back to Ruby who seemed to just stand there with a dazed expression. It seemed like she had absolutely no idea what just happened.
"Well Ruby, I'm going to go grab my luggage then head towards the auditorium. I'm sure you have to do the same. I'll see you around."
"Y-yeah, see you Ryze."
With that, I headed towards the bullhead to grab my stuff and prepare myself for what I knew would be an obviously mysterious and boring speech from Ozpin.
---A few hours later/Third Person POV---
The hall was bustling with activity as many people had set up sleeping bags for the night. In one part of the room Ruby was scribbling something down as Yang looked over her shoulder.
"What's that Rubes?"
"A letter to my friends back at Signal! I want to let them know how cool Beacon is!"
With a large smile Yang grabbed Ruby and smothered her in a hug.
"Awwww, you're so adorable Rubes! But it's kind of weird and bland in here. Just a bunch of teenagers grouped up in one place all about to sleep. None of the guys here even look that goo- well hello sailor! I take back everything I just said."
Right as Yang was about to finish her sentence, Ryze walked into the room. All he was wearing was a black compression shirt and loose fitting sweat pants, reminiscent of a certain deadbeat gambling addict.
"Mama is liking what she's seeing! Those abs are rock solid! His build is also super lean, not beefy like those dumb jocks around us. Man Ruby, you sure found an amazing guy to become friend with, huh?"
"Yang! Shut up! He's just a friend I met at a shop! Stop looking at him like that," Ruby whisper shouted at Yang while furiously blushing. She had also seen how Ryze looked and had to admit to herself that he was probably both the cutest and hottest guy she had ever seen.
Right at that moment, Ryze seemed to notice both of them. He walked over to them, dragging along his sleeping bag with him.
"Hey you two, how has your first day at Beacon been? After the speech I just roamed around the school to get a layout of the place. It's honestly pretty big."
"Well we both haven't done much. On the other hand, how'd you get such a toned body big guy? From where I'm standing you're a picture perfect Adonis," Yang said with one eyebrow raised and a taunting smirk on her face.
"Push ups, sit ups, and plenty of juice," Ryze said with the straightest face he could manage.
"Well that must be some special juice cause god damn!"
"Yanggggg, stop teasing Ryze! Anyways, we also saw a bit of Beacon today! It really is huge! I still can't believe I'm here," Ruby said with wide eyes and a look of overall awe.
"Well believe it Ruby, you earned your spot here. Anyways, I think I'm going to head to bed. We've got an early day tomorrow. I'll catch you guys later, see you Yang, Ruby."
With that, Ryze walked off and set his sleeping bag up before letting darkness take over him.
