Chapter 52: Chapter 48: sibling rivalry
As Scarlet flew through the air, her nose picked up a familiar scent. She stopped as she hovered in the air, her eyes scanning the area for a moment. She glanced downwards to the street below, a familiar red dot moved through the streets of Tokyo. With a raised eyebrow, she descended downwards.
"And who do we have here? That scent of yours isn't masking your smell from my nose." Scarlet spoke as she lands gracefully on a lamp post. Her Nevermore wings folded behind her.
The figure stopped in their tracks, turning their head to look upward. Their eyes widened as they took a step back.
Scarlet smirked as she eyed the figure. "Ara Ara, hello Ruby. It's been ages hasn't it?"
Ruby gulped as she backed up more. "H-Hey there Scarlet....ehehe...fancy seeing you here." Her silver eyes stayed locked onto Scarlet, wide and shaking.
"Fancy? Oh my dear sister." Scarlet spoke as she jumps down from the lamp post. "I should say the same, what happened?" She circles Ruby, walking around the huntress.
Ruby was silent as she watched Scarlet walk around her, like a shark circling its prey. "Um...I...it's kinda complicated."
Scarlet raises an eyebrow up, she stops behind Ruby, leaning against her back, her hot breath blowing into her ear as she spoke. "Is that so? I have all day, so go on. Explain."
Ruby sighed as she rubbed the back of her neck. "Well...I've been exposed to dimensional travel magic, one moment....me, Yang, Blake and Weiss were falling off of the bridge that was leading everyone to Vacuo, right as Atlas was about to fall. The next I end up in another part of Remnant, away from the chaos. Then I end up here."
"Magic? Ara, what an interesting explanation. Well, it isn't out of the realm of impossible. My mother and Ozma are ancient relics of Remnants past of magic users." Scarlet spoke moving away from Ruby. "So, you've been exposed to it...I'm going to throw this out there, but...." Her crimson eyes looked at Ruby for a moment before turning her gaze away. "There's a chance your team is still alive, it's just a hunch, but that doesn't matter now."
Ruby glanced at Scarlet, feeling pain, hurt and anger. "You don't know that, you don't know what it's like to lose those you love and cherish!" Her eyes flashed the shimmering silver light.
Scarlet turned her attention to Ruby. "Oh? Let me tell you something you little shit." She pushed Ruby up against a wall, pinning her against it. "I am chasing down someone who had kidnapped my daughter, your niece. But she was safe for the most part, until my mother and her army of Grimm invaded Tengu City. Raining chaos down upon the people of the city, putting my wife and daughter back into danger. So you don't get the right to tell me what the hell I can and can't feel."
The air crackled with tension and silence. Ruby was still pinned against the wall her eyes glaring into Scarlet's. Looking for any traces of a lie and a truth.
"So you best keep your mouth shut dear sister....or you'll go swimming with the fishes." Scarlet spoke, her tone cold and murderous. She let Ruby go as she turned around, her back facing Ruby.
Ruby was silent, she wasn't sure what she saw or felt. She clinched her fists tightly. "And what are you hoping to achieve in this world? What do you hope will happen when you finally kill that person?"
Scarlet turned her head to the side, she didn't turn around. But she did speak, to answer Ruby's question. "What I'm going to do? I'm going to tear this city apart, limb from limb. And when I eventually get to finding Queen and end her, I'm going to clear Tengu City of the chaos my mother and her Grimm put upon the city."
Ruby glared at her for a moment, walking off after. "You're starting to sound like General Ironwood. He wanted what was best for Atlas and Mantle, but he slowly became a dictator. Who didn't care what happened to the people, as long as he got what he wanted."
Scarlet turned around, watching Ruby walk off. "Oh yeah? Well maybe what I'm saying is true. You just see me as the villain I was made to be, well. Let me tell you something Ruby, I may still be evil and heartless. But I'm doing what's right, for myself, for my family." She paused for a moment. "You and Yang. You'll never get to meet your niece. Not that I'd care, you'll just see her as another Grimm that needs to be squashed." The Grimm girl walked over to Ruby, grabbing her hood. "You honestly think, you'll be able to survive in this world? Well guess what, you can't. Not when there's devils and demons who kill for sport."
Ruby turned around quickly, grabbing Scarlet. "Says the one who started an entire multiversal war. You stole my eye, you were the cause of countless deaths, and it literally took the power of a God of Death to resurrect everyone you've killed. You think you're high and mighty dontcha?"
Scarlet hissed. "Don't you mention that bastardized God's name. The last thing we need is him showing up again."
Ruby laughed sarcastically letting go of Scarlet. "You're just scared. Scared of him returning, he won't. You may have been killed by Goku's spirit bomb back then, but you didn't see what we saw."
Scarlet let's go of Ruby as she glared at her and scoffs. "Regardless. You may seem to think he's gone for good, but he isn't. He can always come back, I should know."

After the heated argument and both of the girls jumping down each other's throats. Ruby let out a long sigh, she slouched against the wall and closed her eyes. Taking a moment to process things before speaking up.
"So...what did you exactly mean by what you said? Me not being able to survive in this world?" Ruby asked with a curious tone.
"Exactly that, this isn't some fairy tale world or story. This isn't Remnant, these aren't Grimm." Scarlet spoke, her arms crossed and her eyes closed. "There are devils and demons out here, and special task forces or whatever she calls them, to stop these monsters."
Ruby raised an eyebrow up. "She?"
"Makima." Scarlet answered. "Her name is Makima."
Ruby was silent, she was going to speak as a giant claw came swiping from above the two. Scarlet pushed Ruby out of the way, and quickly used her semblance to stop time. The Grimm girl, moved out of the way, she grabbed onto Ruby's cape and tossed her. She the blinked, time resumed as Ruby yelped and crashed into a nearby dumpster, the dumpster lid closed over Ruby.
"Hey! A little warning next time....ugh, ew gross..." Ruby groaned as she pushed the lid up.
Scarlet glared at the giant claw that came out of no where, she didn't see any body attached to it. "Heh, a demonic claw? This is gonna be fun." She twirled Black Rose around and slashed at the claw.
Ruby watched as Scarlet was fighting something she couldn't see, but she had heard what she said. Ruby couldn't see it, yet. She wasn't certain if she should trust the words that came from Scarlet's mouth.
"Not much of a talker are ya?" Scarlet mocked the devil, slicing at it.
The claw growled and turned into a fist, punching Scarlet. Sending her flying backwards, crashing into a car. Which exploded, the devil turned its gaze to Ruby, who was still in the dumpster.
"Hey, what's going on?" Ruby asked. "Scarlet, what happened?"
Through the smoke and fire, Scarlet walked out, shards of glass and metal from the car were impaled into her body. "Okay, that actually pissed me off." She whistles, drawing the devils attention. "Hey jackass! I'm not done with you yet."
Ruby was still confused, who was Scarlet talking to? Was it her? "I'm not a jackass."
The devil had its attention drawn to Scarlet before it spoke. "I like that body of yours....it seems much more...indestructible. With a body like that, I can live for centuries."
Scarlet laughed at the devils remark. "Oh? You want to take my body do you? Well I have bad news for you." She slowly started walking towards the devil. "But this body, isn't for sell, and besides." She stopped and yanked the glass and metal out of her body. "I've already been possessed and controlled before, so...whatcha gonna do fuck face?"
Ruby climbed out of the dumpster as she examined the spot Scarlet was looking at. She still couldn't see the devil, but she turned crescent rose into its sniper form, she took aim for whatever spot that she hoped was the body, she took a deep breath and steadied herself. Her finger resting over the trigger.
"Any day now red." Scarlet spoke as she swung Black Rose at the devil, deflecting the on coming attacks from it.
Ruby still puzzled decided to shoot a dust bullet at the devil. The bullet glazed the devil, leaving an open sore, its blood trickled down from it, which gave Ruby a better view of where it was now. "Oh, I see it now!"
Scarlet scoffed and rolled her eyes, she swung Black Rose again, slicing at the devil. "You can be a bit more helpful!" She barked at Ruby. "Use your eyes or whatever you want to do."
The devil snarled as it turned its attention to Ruby. "So, she can see me now. No matter, I don't need her body anymore."
Scarlet smirked, a devious smile spread across her face. "Oh? You don't want to possess Ruby? How sad....I could kill two birds with one stone."
The devil turned its attention back to Scarlet, it was confused at what Scarlet had just said. Did this girl not care for the other? It thought the two meant something to each other, with it lost in thought. Ruby reverted Crescent Rose back to its scythe form. Using her semblance to speed through the air as a red blur of rose petals, she swung Crescent Rose at the devil. While Scarlet swung Black Rose at it from where she stood, both scythes clashed against the devil, as the sharp polished blades sliced into the devils flesh. Scarlet applied pressure, slicing one its fingers off.
With a huge thud, the devils finger fell to the ground as blood sprayed all over the place. Covering the area around them, and drenching both Scarlet and Ruby. Ruby felt grossed out but went in for the attack once more.
"Ruby wait!" Scarlet barked, but she noticed Ruby wasn't listening to her. She growled and scoffed. "Fine, don't listen."
The devil noticed Ruby wasn't listening to Scarlet, it smirked as it grabbed the huntress. Given it was one giant claw. Its grip on Ruby tightened, crushing her. Ruby yelled in pain as she struggled to get out.
"Come on red, use your eyes." Scarlet muttered, she didn't even bother to step in to help Ruby out. Crossing her arms, she watched as the devil crushed the life out of Ruby. "Sure, sure. Have fun, don't mind me."
Once again, the devil was confused as to why Scarlet didn't step in to help Ruby. Why didn't she show the slightest hint of care for this girl? Scarlet smirked widely, watching as each breath was being squeezed out of Ruby. "Do you not care for this girl?"
Scarlet laughed with a sinister tone. "Care for her? Please, I could give two shits about her. I don't care what happens to the pest." Her eyes glowed with evil desire. "So do as you wish with her, but as long as I kill both of you...I'll have my hands free to do whatever." The air was cold, an eerie feeling flowing off of and around Scarlet. "Unless..."
"Unless?" The devil asked.
Scarlet laughed again, her sharp fangs bared to the shining sun light that was beaming down upon her. "Oh you'll see..."
~~~
A shining silver light came from the cracks and gaps, the opened spot where the devils finger was. Ruby's silver eyes shined. The light shooting upward and outward, from each side of the devil. Ruby's silver eyes shined brighter with each passing minute. The light engulfed the area, Scarlet turned her away. Her back facing the devil as it was consumed by the light. The devil was slowly turning to stone, right as Ruby broke herself free from its grasp.
"W-What in the?" The devil spoke shaken a bit. It stepped back, frightened by what it just witnessed. "Y-You're not normal, you both... you both aren't normal humans."
Scarlet chuckled as she grins widely, she turned around quickly. Her sharp nails tore into the devil. "You just now figured it out? How sad. And here you could've gotten what you've wanted. But alas....your wish is your downfall." She tore into the devil and slashed it in half. "When you get to hell, tell them. The Grimm reaper is among the humans and, each one your kind will be killed."
Scarlet raised her foot over the devil and slammed her foot down onto its eye and twisted her heel into it. Putting the devil in its place and out of its misery. "Tch, you were a pain. I wonder if the rest of you bastards are gonna be harder to deal with?"
Ruby panted and glared at Scarlet. "I.....hate...you."
Scarlet snickered. "Oh how hurt I feel, you hate lil' ol' me?" She pretended to feel hurt and disappointed. "My, how could you? Hate me, your dear sister." She grinned and spat to the side. "Don't get the wrong idea red. I didn't help you for reasons, surely you're a big girl now..." She turns with her back facing Ruby. "Come on, I was given directions to a place I can stay at. A hotel. Since you're stuck here, you might as well... tag along with me."
Ruby was silent as she glanced down at her blood covered outfit and everything else. "Fine, but I'm not doing this because I forgive you." The huntress watched as Scarlet walked off, she followed behind her as the two walked in silence.
