Chapter 54: Harder daily quest
Blake then looked at Oscar, as she then kissed on the cheek. "Also this for stopping leaving Beacon".
She walked away, as Oscar just blinking, as he got down and took a few seconds to process, this was a daily quest.
He then goes to him room, as he went to sleep, he woke up 6 in the morning like he started to do, as then he saw his system
Ding!
[Do to host showing his system to someone, today the daily quest are Extra, rewards will better
400 Push Up
400 sit Up
40k Run]
Oscar stared at the system notification with a deadpan expression.
"...I should have never asked."
He groaned and rubbed his face. "400 push-ups, 400 sit-ups, and a 40-kilometer run? What is this, the One Punch Man workout?"
Ding!
[Host complains too much. A true warrior faces challenges head-on.]
Oscar sighed. "Even my system is roasting me now. Great."
Still, better rewards meant it might be worth it. He stretched his arms and cracked his neck. "Alright… let's get this over with."
As he stepped out for his training, he couldn't help but replay Blake's kiss on his cheek in his mind.
Maybe today wouldn't be so bad.
Oscar started his insane training routine, beginning with the 400 push-ups. By the time he hit 200, his arms felt like they were on fire.
"Ugh… this is hell," he muttered, pushing himself to keep going.
Ding!
[Encouragement Buff Activated: Temporary Strength Boost +5%]
"Okay, now we're talking," he smirked and continued.
After finishing the push-ups, he moved on to 400 sit-ups. Each crunch burned, but Oscar powered through. His body had grown stronger with every level-up, but this was still ridiculous.
When he finally finished, he had to mentally prepare himself for the worst part—the 40-kilometer run.
As he stepped outside, the early morning breeze helped a little. "Alright, let's do this," he muttered before breaking into a sprint.
The first 10 kilometers weren't too bad. His stamina and agility stats helped him maintain a steady pace.
By the 20-kilometer mark, he started feeling the strain. His legs burned, his breathing was rough, and sweat dripped down his face.
By 30 kilometers, he was mentally cursing the system. "Why did I show Blake the system?! Stupid! Stupid!"
But then, a notification popped up.
Ding!
[Due to Host's determination, Agility +3, Endurance +3]
Oscar blinked. Wait, I can gain stats like this?
Now with renewed motivation, he powered through the last 10 kilometers.
When he finally finished, he collapsed onto the ground, panting. "I… I did it…"
Ding!
[Daily Quest Completed! Rewards:
10,000 XP
500 Lien
Skill Upgrade Token x1
Random Weapon Mod x1
Dunegone Key X1 ]
Oscar grinned despite feeling like he was dying. "Totally worth it."
As he caught his breath, he noticed someone standing nearby—Blake.
She crossed her arms, looking amused. "So… did you survive?"
"Just barely," he chuckled, sitting up.
She smirked. "Good. You'll need that stamina if you want to keep up with me in the future."
Oscar blinked. Wait, was that flirting?
Before he could respond, Blake walked off, leaving him more confused than ever.
Ding!
[Extra Rewards
Kirin (This spell is a lighting spell that's the host sent up in the air, as it started to rain as it then Summons a Lighting Dragon to strike down his enemy)
Shadow Clone (This is a shadow type spell, as if allows the host to created a one to one refilica out of the Host shadow it maybe useful when the host is in his White Mask identity)
Light Spear (Create a spear of light that does Holy damge/Light damage)
Shadow Spear ((Create a spear of shadow that does Dark damage)]
Oscar's exhaustion faded the moment he saw the extra rewards.
Holy crap… these are some serious spells!
He quickly analyzed each of them:
Kirin: A lightning-based summon spell. This could be insanely powerful against large groups or heavily armored enemies.
Shadow Clone: A perfect ability for my White Mask persona… This could be a game-changer.
Light Spear: Holy damage means it's great against Grimm and possibly other dark-based enemies.
Shadow Spear: Dark damage… perfect for sneaky attacks or fighting light-based enemies.
"System, add these spells to my active skill list," he said without hesitation.
Ding!
[New skills have been added!]
Oscar clenched his fists, feeling a surge of energy as the system integrated the spells into his abilities. His body still ached from the brutal workout, but the excitement of these new skills overpowered the fatigue.
Just as he was about to relax, he heard a familiar voice.
"You look way too happy for someone who just ran 40 kilometers," Yang teased, walking up to him.
Oscar smirked. "What can I say? Hard work pays off."
Yang raised an eyebrow. "Really? Or did you get some kind of crazy new ability from that magic menu of yours?"
Oscar froze for a second. Wait… did Blake tell her?!
Seeing his reaction, Yang just laughed and patted his back. "Relax, Blake didn't say anything. But I've got good instincts, and I know when someone's hiding something."
Oscar sighed in relief but knew he had to be careful. "Well, let's just say… I have a few tricks up my sleeve."
Yang grinned. "I like tricks. Wanna show me?"
Oscar chuckled. "Maybe later. Right now, I need food and sleep."
Yang shrugged. "Fair enough. See you around, mystery man."
As she walked away, Oscar couldn't help but think, I really need to be more careful… but at least I'm getting stronger.
He headed back to his dorm, already planning how to test his new abilities.
Oscar focused, feeling the surge of mana as he called upon the spell. He closed his eyes for a moment, picturing his shadow extending and forming a replica of himself.
Ding!
[Shadow Clone Activated.]
The shadow on the ground beneath Oscar began to ripple, stretching and twisting. Blake watched, her curiosity piqued, as a second figure—identical to Oscar in every way—began to rise from the floor. It was a perfect copy, its features, movements, and even posture exactly like the original.
Oscar smirked. "Not bad, right?"
The clone stood next to him, mirroring his every move with perfect precision.
Blake took a step closer, eyeing the clone. "This is… incredible. Does it have all of your abilities?"
Oscar shrugged. "For now, it's just a physical copy, but I think I can control its movements and give it a little personality too. I'll test that out in a bit."
Blake tilted her head. "So, it's like an extra pair of hands or a decoy?"
"Exactly." Oscar grinned, raising a hand. "Watch this."
He made a fist, and the clone mimicked him immediately. Oscar smiled and snapped his fingers. The clone followed suit, but instead of just standing there, it took a step forward, ready to engage in whatever action Oscar intended.
"Impressive," Blake muttered, watching the clone's movements carefully. "Does it vanish when it's no longer needed?"
Oscar nodded. "That's what I'm testing. Let's see."
They looked at the clone as they looked back at eachother..
Blake blinked. "That's… really useful."
Oscar's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Yeah, it could be great for reconnaissance or if I ever need a distraction. Plus, I can always summon it when I'm in my White Mask persona. It can fight for me too, as long as it doesn't get too complicated."
Blake folded her arms, looking impressed. "So, what's next? What other new tricks do you have?"
Oscar looked at her, then activated another spell from his list. "How about something more flashy?"
Blake raised an eyebrow as Oscar summoned the Light Spear into his hand. The spear materialized out of thin air, glowing brightly with a holy light. Oscar swung it experimentally, feeling its weight.
"This is Light Spear," Oscar explained, the tip of the spear radiating with an almost divine energy. "It can pierce through most things, especially Grimm. It does light and holy damage, so it's effective against dark creatures."
Blake's eyes widened. "That looks dangerous."
Oscar grinned. "Dangerous, yes, but effective." He turned to face the air and thrust the spear forward. The light of the spear blazed, and a shockwave of holy energy shot out, cutting through the space in front of him. It felt like it could pierce the heavens itself.
Blake took a step back, eyes wide. "Okay, that's impressive."
Oscar smirked, letting the spear dissipate into the air. "I have a few more tricks to try out, but let's take it slow for now."
Blake nodded slowly. "I'm starting to think showing me your system might have been a good idea after all."
Oscar chuckled. "Glad to hear it. And, hey, now you can keep an eye on me in case I go rogue or something."
Blake smiled faintly. "Noted."
The two of them stood in the rooftop for a moment, basking in the quiet, feeling the weight of their recent developments. Oscar knew his new powers were only going to get stronger from here, and Blake's trust in him seemed to grow as well.
"Thanks for being here, Blake," Oscar said softly.
Blake gave him a knowing look, her voice a little softer than usual. "It's not like I had much choice. You're hard to ignore, you know?"
Oscar laughed. "Fair enough."
The Clone Oscar then spoke. "I can probably use your ability".
Oscar just blinked and so did Blake as they looked at Oscar. "Wait you can talk".
They said looking at the Clone as he titled. "Yeah, but after a few seconds that is, I am still a clone so I have your mentality and everything, anything your ok with so am i, I wonder how of us you can make".
Oscar stared at his clone, processing what it just said. "Wait, you can talk? I thought you'd just... mimic my movements. You sound almost like me, too." He eyed the clone carefully, still not fully accustomed to this new aspect of his power.
The clone grinned, mirroring Oscar's own expression. "Yeah, seems like after a few moments of activation, I can use your thoughts and speech. It's like I'm running on autopilot, but still 'me' at the same time. Makes sense, right?"
Blake blinked in surprise, glancing between Oscar and the clone. "This is... weird. I didn't expect this kind of interaction. So, you're like a copy, but with your own mind?"
The clone nodded. "Exactly! I can't think on my own like you can, but I share the same mindset. So, technically, I'm an extension of you. Kind of like a part of your consciousness, just... in a different form."
Oscar looked impressed. "So, you can literally copy my thoughts and actions? That's... a lot more than I expected." He turned his attention back to Blake, who seemed equally intrigued by this new revelation.
Blake rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "So, what happens if you make more than one clone? Do they all share the same thoughts? Or would you just end up with a bunch of mini versions of yourself running around?"
Oscar grinned. "I don't know. Guess we'll have to try it out." He took a deep breath, focusing, and then activated the spell again.
Ding!
[Shadow Clone Activated. New clone created.]
Suddenly, another identical Oscar appeared. This new clone didn't speak immediately but started mimicking Oscar's movements, looking around, as if getting a feel for its new form.
Blake's eyes widened. "Whoa, that's... two of you now."
Oscar turned to face the new clone, watching as both copies mirrored his movements. "Okay, let's see what happens. If this works as I think it will, I should be able to have as many as I want, though I'm guessing there's a limit based on energy."
The original clone spoke up, still mirroring Oscar's exact posture. "I think I understand now. We're like your backup, but we share your energy. The more of us, the more energy it takes." It looked at the other clone and then at Oscar. "If you want to go crazy with it, you might need to level up or find a way to manage your stamina."
Oscar nodded, rubbing his chin. "Good point. I don't want to push my limits just yet, but this could be a game-changer." He turned to Blake, who was watching with a mix of amusement and fascination. "Guess I'll keep experimenting, but yeah—this could be useful."
Blake smirked. "Well, now you've got backup. You won't be alone when you're in a fight, at least."
Oscar chuckled. "Yeah, or I could make a team of mini-me's to take on enemies. We'll see how well it works with teamwork."
The clone spoke again, this time adding a hint of humor to its tone. "Maybe you should just make a few hundred of us and overwhelm the enemy. One big Oscar army!"
Oscar laughed, shaking his head. "I don't think I'm ready for that just yet." He then looked at Blake, who was starting to laugh at the idea.
"Alright, alright, enough with the clones for now," Blake said, grinning. "What's next on the agenda, hero?"
Oscar smirked, feeling more confident. "Let's test some more spells. These new spell's of mine is pretty fun."
Blake raised an eyebrow. "You know, I'm starting to think your system might be more useful than I first thought."
Oscar shrugged. "It's definitely got its perks. But I still have a lot to learn."
As the clones stood by silently, mirroring Oscar's every move, Blake couldn't help but feel a little impressed. She had never seen someone with this much power, and it was clear that Oscar was just beginning to unlock his full potential.
