S Ranked Reincarnation: My Infinite Leveling System

Chapter 21: Haven Falls

The dropship trembled as it sliced through the Rift-choked skies toward Haven City.

Ning Que stood in the cockpit, the light from the fractured heavens casting shadows across his face. The clouds churned in crimson spirals, streaked with pulses of violet and molten gold. Lightning forked sideways, not down — arcing through the air like severed nerves. All around them, the atmosphere shimmered as if the world was being seen through warped glass.

Below them, Haven City was a bleeding dream.

Once a beacon of stability, it now resembled a broken reflection of itself. Skyscrapers bent in on themselves like glass ribs. Streets folded into spirals. The sea near the harbor climbed skyward as if gravity had forgotten its purpose. In the distance, where the cathedral once stood, a tower of Riftlight burned like a second sun — pale and cruel.

"The city's breaking apart," Viera murmured beside him. Her eyes flickered with fear.

Ning's jaw clenched. "And the gate hasn't even opened fully."

> {Warning: Riftstorm Density - Critical. Cognitive degradation likely. Emotional anchors vulnerable.} {Do you wish to lock emotional anchors before descent?}

The system's voice was unusually hesitant.

Ning stared at the storm below, visions of the past clawing at his mind — Mireya's blood staining the seal stone. Lyra's trembling hands. Denz's final breath. All fragments of a story written in scars.

"No," he whispered. "If I seal the memories, I forget the reason I keep going."

> {Emotional vulnerability accepted. Proceeding.}

The moment his boots touched Haven soil, the world shattered around him.

Sound bent sideways. The wind moaned like it remembered death. People screamed, but their voices arrived late — like echoes caught in a loop. A nearby building flickered, its windows blinking like eyes before it crumbled into mist.

All around the square, civilians stood. No — watched.

Their expressions weren't empty. They were filled with recognition.

"There," a woman whispered, falling to her knees. "The Flamebearer… the one who scorched the seal."

Children clung to mothers. Men backed away in fear. The wind carried their murmurs.

Ning took a step forward — and flinched.

> {Emotional Anchor Surging. Memory Instability Detected.}

A shape moved in the distance.

Mireya.

She stepped out from the Riftlight, her silver hair wild around her face, half of her coat burned and the other half untouched. She looked like she had just crawled out of war.

And behind her… came him.

The Harrowed Flame.

A Sovereign.

Draped in robes that flickered between fire and darkness, his presence weighed the world down. Rift energy flowed around him like liquid smoke. He looked no older than Ning, but something in his gaze spoke of centuries. A calm smile played across his lips.

"Reclaimer of Ruin," he greeted. His voice layered with echoes, each one a different version of him.

Ning narrowed his eyes. "You know who I am."

The Sovereign smiled wider. "I remember you. You sealed us. Called it mercy."

He stepped closer, each footfall cracking the stone beneath him. The Riftlight behind him twisted in rhythm with his breath.

"You built the gates with good intentions," he said. "You poured your pain into stone, your love into ash. And now… you wonder why the world burns."

A hiss filled the air.

Above them, the Rift split — and a creature descended.

Wyrm-like, serpentine, draped in threads of memory and glowing arteries. Its body coiled through the air, displacing reality with every twitch. The beast opened its mouth — not to roar — but to scream in memory.

The world paused.

Linx's voice crackled through comms. "Sovereign-level Riftbeast! That thing shouldn't exist! Get out of there!"

But Ning didn't move.

The katana shimmered into his hand. Its edge sang with light and sorrow.

> {Warning: Riftpath Corrupted. Interface Unstable. Synchronization: 63%.}

Then the wyrm struck.

Reality shattered, time fractured.

People saw their worst hours flash before their eyes — and Ning saw hers.

The scream of the cathedral door. The heat. Mireya's hand disappearing into the Rift. His voice, broken.

He almost dropped the blade.

Then Mireya moved.

She stood between him and the Sovereign.

"Enough," she said. Her voice cracked, but the conviction held.

The Harrowed Flame raised a brow. "You remember?"

"I never forgot."

She lunged.

Their powers collided in mid-air, a thunderclap of light and flame and memory. The plaza cracked. Riftlight surged.

The wyrm twisted, lunged again — and Ning met it.

He activated Temporal Rend — slicing across its core with a scream.

> {Technique Executed. Emotional Cost: High. Memory Recursion Triggered.}

The wyrm shrieked — and then repeated the same death, over and over, locked in an echo.

But Ning Que paid for it.

He collapsed to one knee, tears streaming down his face. His mind shattered with memory. He felt the gate. He heard her say goodbye.

"Don't seal it, Commander. If you do, you'll forget who we were."

Viera reached him. "You're still here," she whispered. "You're not alone anymore."

> {Emotional Anchor Accepted: Viera. Synchronization: 67%.}

He rose.

The wyrm broke free of the loop.

One more blow.

He lifted the katana, eyes glowing.

He slashed upward, and reality bled.

The wyrm split in half. Riftlight drained into the sky.

The Harrowed Flame watched, pleased.

"I was never here to win," he said. "Only to see if you still remembered."

He stepped backward and disappeared into fire.

The tower behind him collapsed.

Half of Haven folded inward — swallowed by the Rift.

Hours later.

Emergency Guild shuttles hovered above the ruins. Fires still burned. Survivors wept. The sea had returned to its place — but the ground trembled with each passing second.

Aeris stood beside Ning on the rooftop of a shattered hospital.

"You didn't save it," she said.

"I know."

"But you didn't destroy it either."

"That doesn't exactly make it better." He retorted.

His gaze lingered on the horizon, where Riftlight still flickered. Like a wound that refused to close.

> {Rift Thread Unlocked: Dominion.} {Sovereign Divergence: Loyalty / Cataclysm. Choose.}

And then:

> {Synchronization: 72%. Mireya Status: Unknown. Last recorded location: Beneath Haven.}

He whispered, "She's still down there."

The system pulsed.

> {Would you like to descend?}

He closed his eyes.

Then opened them.

"Yes."
