Sacrificing Myself: Nine Transmigrations (Genshin Impact)

Chapter 26: Third Life, Worth It

Elliot was a little surprised, but he still smiled gently as he stroked Shenhe's silver-white hair.

It took a while for Shenhe to calm down.

After that, she quietly finished the rest of the tomato and egg noodles—down to the last drop of soup.

Seeing this, Elliot was a bit taken aback.

"Do you like it, Shenhe?" he asked.

"Mm... it's delicious. Thank you."

"You're welcome. If you like it, I'll make tomato and egg noodles for you every day."

"Really?" Shenhe looked at him with eyes full of hope.

"Of course."

"You're so kind."

Elliot then cleared the rest of the dishes from the table.

Having eaten a bit too much, he felt too full to move, so they decided to rest at the restaurant for a while.

Bang!

Not far away, a burly man with a thick beard slammed his hand on the table and stood up.

"You saying I'm trying to dine and dash!?" he roared.

The waiter panicked, waving his hands frantically. "No, no! That's not what I meant!"

"Then what do you mean, huh!?" The bearded man squinted threateningly.

"It's just… you didn't pay any Mora…"

"So you are accusing me of dining and dashing!? I gave you the Mora! You pocketed it yourself and now you're trying to blame me!"

"I didn't… I really didn't…"

The poor waiter was a nervous wreck, face flushed and completely flustered.

Hearing the shouting, the restaurant owner rushed over.

"Sir, what seems to be the problem?" he asked with an apologetic smile.

"This guy! I clearly paid, but now he says I didn't and wants me to pay again! You trying to frame me as a thief!?"

"I didn't… Boss, I swear I didn't…"

The waiter could only repeat his defense helplessly, clearly overwhelmed.

At that moment, Shenhe stood up and walked over. Elliot followed without trying to stop her.

Boom!

Without a word, Shenhe struck the bearded man with her palm, sending him flying.

The crowd was stunned—speechless, eyes wide.

"Ugh…" The man hadn't expected a woman like her to have such terrifying strength. Clutching his chest, he groaned in pain as he barely managed to prop himself up.

"Witch! The white-haired witch!!"

Now that he saw Shenhe clearly, fear took over. He scrambled to his feet and bolted, stumbling as he ran.

But Elliot, playing the role of an innocent bystander, subtly extended his leg right into the man's path.

Thud.

The bearded man tripped and fell flat on the ground.

Shenhe calmly approached, long spear in hand.

"I was wrong! I was wrong! I shouldn't have tried to skip the bill! I shouldn't have framed him! Please, spare me!"

Overwhelmed by her murderous aura, the man broke down completely and confessed everything.

"Wait."

Just as Shenhe raised her hand to finish him off, Elliot stopped her.

She paused, then lowered her hand without a word.

...

Shortly after, Jean arrived with a group of Knights.

"What a coincidence—good to see you again, travelers."

Recognizing them, Jean smiled warmly.

"Long time no see, Captain Jean," Elliot replied.

"Mm." Shenhe, as always, responded coolly.

"What happened here?" Jean asked, glancing at the now-subdued bearded man.

Elliot gave a quick summary, and Jean followed up by confirming the details with the restaurant staff.

"Thank you for stepping in," Jean said with a gentle smile.

"You're welcome."

"This is your first time in Mondstadt, isn't it?"

"Yes, we just arrived today."

"Then let me show you what makes Mondstadt special—as a token of appreciation."

Jean offered to be their guide.

"Thanks for the trouble," Elliot accepted with a nod.

"I have a question," Shenhe suddenly spoke up.

"What is it?" Elliot asked.

"I don't understand. When people like that man act with such malicious intent, why not simply eliminate them? Why go through all the trouble of arguing or reasoning?"

Her question caught Jean and the Knights off guard.

Elliot, however, remained calm.

"Because people are complicated. What if he really did pay, and the waiter just forgot because he was overwhelmed? If you killed him on the spot, wouldn't that be a terrible injustice?"

He explained patiently, even giving an example.

Shenhe lowered her head slightly, deep in thought.

Little by little, she was beginning to understand how the human world worked.

"Take him away. If anything else comes up, report to me," Jean ordered the Knights.

"Yes, ma'am!"

With that, the group dispersed.

"Come on, I'll give you a proper tour of Mondstadt."

"Thanks again," Elliot said gratefully.

"No problem at all."

With Jean leading the way, they explored all kinds of places. Shenhe was like a child—curious about everything, asking questions nonstop.

Elliot was more like a patient father, explaining even the most basic things without complaint.

And after every explanation, Shenhe always paused thoughtfully.

...

By nightfall, Jean had arranged for them to stay at an inn.

"Shenhe, I need to go meet someone. I'll be back a little later."

"Alright. I'll meditate and wait for you."

"Okay."

Jean had given them two separate rooms, but Elliot knew Shenhe would definitely come looking for him if he left without saying anything.

Mondstadt was huge, and Shenhe was unfamiliar with the city. She wouldn't be able to find him on her own.

And knowing her, she'd probably cause a scene just to draw attention—because she knew that would bring Jean, and then she could ask Jean to help find him.

Elliot knew exactly how her mind worked.

So it was better to be upfront.

After all, she wasn't a child who needed constant supervision.

...

"What's up? Need my help with something?"

Jean, waiting at the inn's entrance, greeted him.

Elliot followed her to a quiet corner and explained what he had in mind.

"I'll leave it to you," he said, bowing slightly.

"Are you sure this is worth it?"

"It is," he replied firmly.

"Alright then…"

With Jean's agreement, Elliot made his way to a winery and bought a few bottles of premium apple wine.

Then, relying on memory, he arrived at a vast grassland.

There, beneath a large tree, sat a certain unreliable figure.

The wandering bard—Venti.

The Anemo Archon who spent most of his days slacking off and drinking.

"Knew I'd find you here," Elliot murmured with a smile as he spotted that familiar silhouette.
