Chapter 14: SS 14: World-Destroying Artifact?
Outside the Sanctuary
"The Sanctuary reacted quickly."
"But we're a step too late."
"This generation's Libra Gold Saint is quite impressive."
Hypnos, the God of Sleep, gazed at the Sanctuary, his tone tinged with regret.
The current Pope's heart had developed a flaw, presenting a prime opportunity for the Underworld.
If they could sway the Pope to rebel, it would deal a devastating blow to the Sanctuary.
In the original story, Itia's rebellion indeed caused irreparable harm.
Nearly all Gold Saints perished.
It was Athena alone who carried the fight, defeating Hades' vessel and expelling the Twin Gods.
"Hmph! Just a bunch of mortals."
"Even if the plan fails, so what?"
"With raw power, can't the Underworld conquer the earth?"
Thanatos, the God of Death, scoffed.
"The Holy War has raged since the Mythological Era."
"This land has always been contested by first-tier gods and chief deities."
"Legend says it holds secrets of the Great Cosmos."
"Yet countless years of Holy Wars haven't unraveled this land's mysteries."
"Athena grows stronger with each cycle."
"Could the prophecy be true? Will she become the next God-King?"
Hypnos disagreed with Thanatos.
"When will Lord Hades deign to leave Elysion in his true form?"
"Relying on reincarnations alone won't conquer the earth."
"Sea Emperor Poseidon is also watching."
"Let's go. The Specters have awakened."
Hypnos gave the Sanctuary a final glance and departed.
"They're gone?"
Before Athena's statue in the Sanctuary, the goddess stood.
Her golden Cosmo flickered faintly.
"Sage, summon Kaiser."
Athena spoke to Sage beside her.
"Understood."
Sage replied.
…
"Athena wants to see me?"
Kaiser frowned.
He'd only met Athena once, upon her return to the Sanctuary.
But since she summoned him, he had no reason to refuse.
Soon, he arrived at the Pope's Hall.
"Lady Athena."
Kaiser bowed respectfully.
"No need for formalities."
"I have a task for you."
"The Underworld's Specters have awakened."
"I need you to patrol the earth."
"You're one of the Sanctuary's top fighters."
Athena's words surprised Kaiser.
"Patrol the earth?"
"I have no issue with that."
Kaiser didn't refuse.
With his current strength, as long as he avoided the Twin Gods, he faced no mortal danger.
Especially with his system.
"Plagues ravage the earth because of an evil god's artifact."
"I need you to deal with those artifacts."
Athena sighed.
The Sanctuary was beset on all sides.
The Sea Realm watched hungrily.
The Underworld's Specters stirred.
And an evil god's artifact wreaked havoc on the earth.
"I understand."
"I'll leave the Sanctuary tomorrow."
Kaiser nodded.
"An evil god's artifact?"
Kaiser mused.
In the Saint Seiya world, artifacts weren't prominent.
Far less so than Saint Cloths.
But they weren't unmentioned.
In Lost Canvas Gaiden, an artifact was referenced.
It involved Leo Ilias, the strongest Gold Saint of the Lost Canvas era.
Ilias had inherited the Leo Gold Cloth before the Holy War.
A top-tier Sanctuary fighter.
Stable at the Eighth Sense, his strength was staggering.
Even late in the era, few could rival him.
Yet he fell to Radamanthys, one of the Underworld's three giants.
Radamanthys shouldn't have been able to defeat Ilias.
The issue was an artifact.
A cursed one.
When it surfaced, only Ilias could handle it.
Left unchecked, it posed a world-ending threat.
Ilias took the mission to seal it.
He succeeded but was cursed, contracting severe cancer.
His physical condition plummeted.
His combat strength crumbled.
Radamanthys seized the chance, killing the Sanctuary's top Gold Saint.
Now, Kaiser had to handle such artifacts, and he felt uneasy.
Even Ilias, a stable Eighth Sense powerhouse, couldn't withstand it.
"I need to break through the Seventh Sense."
"Peak Seventh Sense strength doesn't give me enough security."
Kaiser frowned, back at the Libra Temple.
"Need me to go with you?"
A voice echoed in the Libra Temple.
The speaker had been waiting for him.
"Stay in the Sanctuary."
"As the Pope's aide, you're more vital than I am."
Kaiser wasn't surprised.
It was Altar Hakurei.
The man who, in the future, would single-handedly challenge the God of Sleep.
Without a Saint Cloth.
Armed only with a blade, he stormed Hades' castle and sealed Hypnos.
He fell to Alone's hand.
"World-destroying artifacts aren't easy to handle."
"The Libra Temple's weapons may not work. Be careful."
"Those things carry curses."
Hakurei warned.
"Don't worry, I know."
"I'll return when the Holy War begins."
Kaiser smiled.
As one of his few friends, they got along well.
"Thanks for handling Master's situation."
Before leaving the Libra Temple, Hakurei spoke softly.
Kaiser smiled, saying nothing more.
