Saving Uchiha, Starts by Flipping The Table

Chapter 276: Chapter 277: Why was it okay for Uchiha to suffer in silence before, but not for Sarutobi now?

"There's a saying, 'It's easy to go from frugality to luxury, but hard to go from luxury to frugality.'

Since the Third Hokage became Hokage, the Sarutobi clan has received many benefits. They've been well taken care of, with all kinds of perks that allowed the whole clan to live comfortably.

Otherwise, how could they have grown from a medium-sized family to the largest family in Konohagakure, with the most ninjas?"

"Thousands of ninjas! More than Uchiha and Hyuga combined, even. As far as I can tell, in the entire ninja world, only the Sarutobi clan can be called a large family."

Hearing this, Yan couldn't help but make a sarcastic remark.

And the Third Hokage still has the nerve to say the Sarutobi clan is just a civilian family?

If they're really just civilians, what's the point of having a clan?

Why not be like the Senju clan and fully integrate into the civilian community?

If the Third Hokage really did that, I'd have to respect him.

Unfortunately, the Sarutobi clan only calls itself a civilian family. In reality, their development is faster than anyone else's.

But with the rapid development, the village's resources have been drained, and that also exposed some of the Sarutobi clan's weaknesses, like their lack of foundation.

Families like the Hyuga and Uchiha, even without the village's financial support, manage to form their own internal systems, relying on their family businesses to hold things up.

They won't face a situation where their ninjas can't make a living. They might not live as comfortably as before, but they'll get by.

The Sarutobi clan, on the other hand, can't do that.

Without much family business of their own, once they lose the village's support and can't drain the village anymore, problems start to arise.

The first issue is that the high welfare and benefits are gone, along with the high treatment. Some ninjas who were complicit in the oppression of others have been removed from key positions.

These people not only lose their jobs, but their high incomes are gone as well, triggering a chain reaction.

In the short term, it might not seem like much. Everyone has some savings and can hold on for a while.

But over time, or when a major incident happens, the conflicts will explode.

This time, the hundreds of elite members who died in the Land of Rain will inevitably cause a huge shock to the Sarutobi clan.

"Boom!!!"

The mention of thousands of ninjas seemed to trigger Tsunade.

Already a bit drunk, Tsunade slammed the bottle down on the table, startling Shizune beside her.

She raised her head in confusion and blinked. Hadn't everything been fine just a moment ago?

Why did she suddenly get so angry?

"Does it feel like new troubles are coming again? Like the hole you just managed to fill has been dug open once more?"

Seeing Tsunade's frustrated and angry expression, Yan couldn't help but laugh.

If the Sarutobi clan has a problem they can't solve themselves, it's bound to fall on Tsunade's shoulders.

After all, she's the Hokage.

If she doesn't handle it, who will?

"You might as well just kill me," Tsunade grumbled, grabbing her hair in frustration and slumping over the desk.

"I don't have a way to come up with a huge sum of money to cover the Sarutobi clan's mess."

"I shouldn't have let the old man go to the front lines. I was so stupid, really."

No matter how the Sarutobi clan's elite died or whose fault it was, their deployment was ordered by the village.

In other words, if there's a problem, the village has to take responsibility.

At the very least, subsidies and compensation need to be provided.

The families of the deceased deserve an explanation.

Compared to the hundreds of elite from the Sarutobi clan, Yan would have preferred it if the Third Hokage had died in Amegakure Village.

If that old man had died, it would have been a clean break.

Unfortunately, the Third Hokage isn't so easy to get rid of.

After stewing in frustration for a while, Tsunade finally looked up at Yan with pleading eyes.

"Is there any way to solve this problem?"

"I don't handle finances,"

Yan replied helplessly, spreading his hands.

You deal with it yourself. I'm not getting involved in these matters, so no one can accuse me, Uchiha Yan, of using my position to take revenge on the Sarutobi clan.

"You're the Hokage's assistant!!"

"And you're the Hokage."

Trying to pass the buck?

Not a chance.

Yan didn't want to get tangled up in these messy affairs. Once he got involved, the headache would be his.

Let Tsunade deal with it for now.

But while he wasn't taking on the responsibility, he did have a suggestion. Yan didn't leave Tsunade completely hanging and offered her some advice:

"For this matter, don't step in right away. Let the Third Hokage handle it himself first. If he can't resolve it, then the village can step in. If all else fails, just issue the standard compensation."

"Given the village's tight finances, I'm sure the Sarutobi clan will understand. If they don't, let the Third Hokage deal with it himself."

"But the Sarutobi clan's resentment might be huge..."

Tsunade instinctively replied.

"The Uchiha were treated the same way back then. Why didn't we see the Uchiha making such a fuss?"

Yan cut her off.

"Are you saying the Uchiha can take a loss and suffer in silence, but the Sarutobi clan can't? By the way, when the Uchiha were moved out of the village center, the Third Hokage promised a large subsidy. That still hasn't been paid. Maybe you, as Hokage, could look into that?"

Tsunade: "......"

"Let's eat, let's eat. These kinds of things are best left to the old man. He's good at handling them."

Tsunade decisively gave up.

Subsidies?

You've got to be kidding me. Where am I supposed to get that much money to subsidize you Uchiha folks?

Uchiha Yan, why don't you just kill me instead? Or sell me off and see how much I'm worth.

Anyway, I don't have money, but I've got myself. Take it or leave it.

Because of suspicion and mistrust, after the Nine-Tails incident, the Uchiha clan's territory was moved from the center of the village to the outermost area.

To appease the Uchiha, the Third Hokage promised subsidies, hoping Fugaku would understand and cooperate.

Fugaku did understand and cooperated, forcing the reluctant clan members to move.

In the end, the Uchiha relocated to the outskirts of the village, but the subsidies were always delayed by the Third Hokage, who claimed financial difficulties.

Eventually, the matter was dropped. Over time, even the Uchiha stopped bringing it up because they knew the village wouldn't pay, and the village genuinely didn't have the funds.

Fortunately, the Third Hokage didn't completely cut them off. The Uchiha's former land is now a bustling district, and the clan was given a few less-than-ideal shops in the area as compensation.

This effectively offset the subsidies.

As Tsunade devoured her meal, she muttered to herself:

"Old man, it's not that I don't want to help, but the hole is too deep. You'll have to deal with it yourself. I can't handle it."

After finally filling one hole after another, another massive one appeared. Tsunade admitted she couldn't handle it anymore and had no way to scrape together the money to fill these gaps.

Either you deal with it yourself, or we'll compensate at the village's minimum standard.

That's all we can do. There's really nothing more.

After finishing his meal, Yan stretched and was about to leave when Tsunade quickly signaled Shizune to bring something out.

"Yan, hold on."

"What is it?"

Yan sat back down, looking puzzled at the two of them. Was there still something unresolved?

"Here."

Shizune rummaged through her clothes and soon pulled out a scroll, handing it to Yan. Yan glanced at the scroll, then at Shizune's clothes:

"Impressive. Can girls really hide so much stuff in their chests?"

"Huh?!!!"

Shizune's hand trembled, nearly dropping the scroll. She was completely stunned.

Was she being teased or flirted with?

Can I really fit that much in there?

Shizune instinctively looked down.
