Chapter 763: Heading to the Ghost Market

"Where can it be that fast?" the Ghost King chuckled eerily and then said, "The Ghost Gate only opens on the first and fifteenth of each month. When that time comes, you will see quite a few unclean things, hehehe..."

Glancing wickedly at Xiao Han, the Ghost King asked, "What do you think? Are you scared?"

"If I were scared, I wouldn't have come," Xiao Han replied with a smile.

The Ghost King was taken aback and said, "Why take such a great risk for just a demon?"

"Xiao Yue is not merely a demon!" Xiao Han looked at the Ghost King earnestly before saying, "She is also my companion and my friend. If it were you who had been taken away by that old Taoist, I would do everything in my power to rescue you, even if it meant climbing a mountain of knives or plunging into a sea of flames."

The Ghost King shivered all over; he looked at Xiao Han in disbelief.

After a long silence, the Ghost King did not speak. He took a deep breath and said, "People always say humans are cunning and fickle. Why are you different from the others?"

"Everyone has a bright side, and everyone has an evil side," Xiao Han glanced at the Ghost King and continued, "My friends, I treat them with all my heart. I won't discriminate against them just because they come from humble origins, or because they are ghosts or demons."

"I'm impressed," the Ghost King nodded in acknowledgment.

In the depths of the Ghost King's heart, it was as if a powerful explosive had been detonated. Xiao Han's recent words had moved the Ghost King deeply. It was the first time in hundreds of years that a human had touched his heart. Perhaps, since he had gained Spiritual Wisdom, Xiao Han was the first person to ever move him. Indeed, Xiao Han's words had stirred the Ghost King's heart.

The feeling was very unfamiliar to the Ghost King, but it instilled in him an immense sense of trust and gratitude towards Xiao Han from then on.

Within the cemetery, the Yin Qi was chillingly thick; Xiao Han was quite uncomfortable.

Whoosh whoosh...

Not far away, several black figures moved through the darkness. Xiao Han saw them from a distance.

"You should hide for now," Xiao Han called out.

"Hmm..." The Ghost King hesitated before responding, "Alright then..."

Afterward, the Ghost King transformed into a small, delicate kitten. Completely white and appearing languid, it looked nothing like a Ghost King.

The kitten curled up on Xiao Han's shoulder, taking a nap.

At that moment, the two black figures quickly approached; one of them was wearing a yellow Taoist robe and a Taoist hat adorned with a Taiji Bagua Diagram, while the other was dressed in a long green robe. They walked up to Xiao Han and looked at him warily.

"Young friend, what brings you here?" the man in the yellow Taoist robe inquired.

"I'm preparing to go to the Ghost Market!" Xiao Han responded.

The two men looked shocked, and the man in the green robe asked hurriedly, "You... You're going to the Ghost Market alone?"

"Yes!" Xiao Han nodded and said, "Why, are you two also planning to go?"

"Yes!" both men nodded.

Smiling, the man in the yellow Taoist robe said, "Young friend, would you like to accompany us? It's good to have company on the road. You know, the Ghost Market isn't an easy place to visit. It swarms with evil ghosts, and it's easy to encounter something malevolent without caution."

"That sounds good," Xiao Han nodded slightly.

Before they knew it, it was already half-past eleven.

"Only half an hour left," the yellow-robed Taoist said with a slight smile. "Young friend, have you prepared any protective weapons? If not, let me give you an Amulet!"

"Thank you, Taoist Master!" Xiao Han accepted the Amulet from him, examining it carefully. The Amulet was three fingers wide and one finger long. On it, there were some chaotic Runes drawn in red cinnabar, which Xiao Han could not understand. However, he was very grateful that the yellow-robed Taoist was kind enough to offer him an Amulet.

"No need to thank me!" the yellow-robed Taoist shook his head, then curiously asked, "Young friend, what's your name? Who did you study under?"

"You can call me Xiao Han, I am... without a master, a Loose Cultivator!" Xiao Han said with a smile.

"Oh!" the Taoist nodded slightly, having already probed Xiao Han's strength and found that Xiao Han did not seem to have gathered any Qi within him, so he could mostly be considered part of the Outer Sect. The Taoist Master did not say much else, but he smiled and said, "In the Taoist Sect, cultivation requires daily accumulation; the key is to persist. Young friend, you must work hard!"

"Yes, I will remember your words!" Xiao Han nodded.

The man in the green robe applied some Runes on his body and then said, "Hurry up and stick the Amulet on your body, it's better to be safe than sorry!"

The older Taoist was dismissive and said, "This Bagua robe and my Peach Wood Sword are enough for them to handle. If they dare to come close to me, I'll make their souls disperse instantaneously."

Xiao Han looked at them, then chuckled and followed the man in the green robe's example by sticking the Amulet to his chest.

At that moment, the voice of the Ghost King sounded in Xiao Han's ear, "Such low-level Amulets are effective against ordinary Wandering Wild Ghosts, but they have no effect on real Fierce Ghosts!"

"What should I do if I encounter a Fierce Ghost?" Xiao Han hastily asked.

"Didn't I tell you to prepare Black Dog Blood?" the Ghost King chuckled and said, "Coating a Chicken Feather with Black Dog Blood is the best method to deal with Fierce Ghosts."

"Okay!" Xiao Han nodded.

At that moment, midnight arrived.

A chilly wind blew from a nearby mountaintop, followed by a light as soft as moonlight appearing.

"It's open!" the Yellow-robed Taoist shouted.

Straightaway, the group hurried towards the entrance. After jumping over hundreds of tombstones, they quickly arrived at the entrance. Green lights began to flicker, indicating that on the fifteenth of every month, Lonely Wild Ghosts would emerge from the Ghost Gate.

"Good grief, there are so many Wandering Wild Ghosts this time?!" the Yellow-robed Taoist exclaimed.

"Let's go, don't bother about it!" urged the Man in Green Robe.

Although it was Xiao Han's first time here, and he saw so many terrifying Lonely Wild Ghosts, he showed no fear. Instead, he was incredibly excited by the sight—it was his first venture into the Ghost Gate, and perhaps, this was his first step into the cultivation world.

Since they all had Amulets on them, the Lonely Wild Ghosts avoided the trio as they saw them. Upon entering the Ghost Gate, they found themselves in a barren land. The area was filled with sinister Yin Qi. The cat on Xiao Han's shoulder seemed to revel in the atmosphere, greedily drawing in the Yin Qi to heal its internal injuries.

Right after the three of them entered, they saw someone being attacked by Fierce Ghosts not far ahead.

"Damn, Fierce Ghosts already?" the Man in Green Robe said awkwardly.

"Shit, don't hesitate," cursed the Yellow-robed Taoist, then he sped up his escape.

Others being attacked by Fierce Ghosts had nothing to do with them. The Taoist Sects were always engaging in a bloody battle for survival, where only the strong deserved to speak. The law of the jungle prevailed in the cultivation world—there were no laws or morals, only the supremacy of strength. Those with formidable powers scorned to lower themselves against the weak, just as humans wouldn't reason with ants.

Xiao Han closely followed the two.

The deeper they went, the colder and denser the Yin Qi became, condensing into thick white fog that lingered in the air. They could clearly see many entities wandering around—Lonely Ghosts, Fierce Ghosts, White-robed Fierce Ghosts, Green-robed Fierce Ghosts...

Whoosh, whoosh...

Suddenly, two Fierce Ghosts noticed Xiao Han and his companions, and swiftly charged at them. The White-robed Fierce Ghosts were rather low-level, while Green-robed Fierce Ghosts possessed a faint Spiritual Wisdom. A Green-robed Fierce Ghost, together with a White-robed Fierce Ghost, blocked the trio's path.

"Hehe..." the Green-robed Fierce Ghost, with disheveled hair and a long tongue drooping out, its saliva dripping down, said, "Blood... clean human blood..."

"Damn it!" the Yellow-robed Taoist frowned and said, "Die!"

He thrust his Peach Wood Sword, which had a Yellow Talisman attached, quickly at the enemy.

"Trivial trick!" The Green-robed Fierce Ghost chuckled sinisterly. With a swat of its Ghost Claw, it easily deflected the Peach Wood Sword from the Yellow-robed Taoist's hand, grabbing him by the neck and sneered, "With your strength, you're not qualified to duel with me!"

Boom...

The Green-robed Fierce Ghost threw the Yellow-robed Taoist aside with force. The White-robed Fierce Ghost pounced on him, tearing away frantically.

"Damn it!" Seeing this, the Man in Green Robe immediately brandished a Longsword and snorted coldly, "A mere Fierce Ghost dares to challenge me!"

As he spoke, he unleashed his Inner Strength. His Longsword glowed dazzlingly and stabbed toward the foe. If the Green-robed Fierce Ghost were to be struck by the Man in Green Robe's Longsword, it would likely be annihilated on the spot.

"Hmmph!" The Green-robed Fierce Ghost grunted and said, "With your Entry-level Strength, you think you can fight me!"

The Green-robed Fierce Ghost charged forward.

Unexpectedly, the Man in the Green Robe flicked his sword, and the light from its blade turned from white to red.

The Green-robed Fierce Ghost was suddenly petrified.

Stab...

The Longsword effortlessly pierced through the Green-robed Fierce Ghost's chest.

Aooo aooo...

The Green-robed Fierce Ghost let out a piercing scream, as if emitting a signal or displaying extreme unwillingness, which resulted in such a bloodcurdling howl. The sound was extremely unsettling.

The White-robed Fierce Ghost had already been dealt with by the Yellow-robed Taoist, but both appeared very ragged. Xiao Han didn't understand these Fierce Ghosts, so he had been just a bystander. The Man in Green Robe glanced at Xiao Han and smiled, "Not scared stiff, are you?"

"No... not at all!" Xiao Han shook his head.

"Good!" the Man in Green Robe nodded and said, "Let's hurry."

No sooner had he spoken than a strange voice called out, "No one is going anywhere!"

All three turned in unison to look behind them, to see a Fierce Ghost in Red Clothing leading several Green-robed Fierce Ghosts. The Red-robed Fierce Ghost's Spiritual Wisdom had awakened, and he was already gathering his own forces; the Green-robed Fierce Ghosts that followed were his underlings.
