vol. 4 chapter 19 - God and the Seraph
God and the Seraph
“A conversation? I have nothing to say to the likes of you! Such insolence!”
“…”
The self-proclaimed goddess spat back furiously, clearly losing her temper.
For someone with such a grand title as “God,” I’d honestly expected her to have a bit more sense.
Suddenly barging in to talk to Aoi, unable to /N_o_v_e_l_i_g_h_t/ even grasp the situation properly… What a letdown.
“…I take that back. This isn’t a conversation. What I’m about to give you… is an order.”
“What are you saying?! Do you know who you speak to?! I am a god!”
She only got more hysterical after hearing my words.
…Alright, enough of this. She did the same to Aoi earlier—she can’t complain if I return the favor.
I extend my palm like I’m scolding a misbehaving animal and give her a short, sharp command:
“Sit.”
“?!”
As if her legs gave out beneath her, she dropped to her knees and sat down neatly like she was in formal seiza position.
She clearly had no idea what had just happened.
Before she could start another round of complaints, I gave her the next command.
“Stay.”
“…!? …!”
I gave the order on a whim.
Honestly, I could restrict her actions without linking it to specific gestures like this.
But this way? It gets the point across. It makes it clear who's dominant.
She realizes she can’t defy my commands and begins to look at me with eyes full of fear.
Finally—finally—she starts thinking seriously about what I might be.
She scans her surroundings with just her eyes and begins observing me more carefully.
“Now… are you ready to listen?”
“…!”
She doesn’t answer aloud, but her eyes convey her clear displeasure.
Well, she’ll just have to keep quiet for a bit. I’m not in the mood for more tantrums.
“I'll speak freely, then. You’ve really gone and messed things up, haven’t you?”
I expected some kind of encounter or recognition by a god during this trip.
Even if she was a “god,” she should’ve been able to recognize that I was the superior being and left us alone.
“If you hadn’t bothered Aoi, I wouldn’t have had to get involved either.”
But this so-called god—this construct born from the idea of “godhood”—refused to acknowledge anything stronger than herself.
That’s why she had the nerve to approach Aoi directly.
She had just enough omnipotence within this world to notice me, this foreign anomaly.
“Still, I didn’t think someone claiming to be a god could be this foolish.”
If it hadn’t been through Aoi, I would’ve had plenty of ways to deal with her.
And yet, this fake god decided to make contact directly.
If she’d just thought calmly, she would’ve realized Aoi and I aren’t the same entity.
“So… what exactly were you planning when you went after Aoi?”
“…!”
“Oh, you can talk now.”
“…Tch. I’ll admit it—I saw you as a potential threat. That is why I acted. Nothing more.”
“A threat? I’ve never once considered you a threat.”
“Y-You…!”
Her face turned red with fury again, but this time she managed to keep it in and stayed silent.
I was poking at her a bit on purpose—but I really wasn’t lying.
I never saw her as a threat.
“So? We don’t intend to harm you. What about you? What do you plan to do?”
“…You have no reason to lie, I’ll grant you that. But I cannot accept this. What are you? Where did you get such power? I need to know that before I decide anything.”
Though she didn’t say it outright, she was finally starting to acknowledge I was on a higher level.
Even so, she wasn’t going to back down without answers.
Sigh… Even after all that, she still doesn’t get it?
“Why should I go out of my way to explain myself to you? I already told you—we weren’t going to interfere unless you poked your nose in. Only those beneath you expect all their questions answered.”
“Tch…!”
“Well, fine. I might be willing to explain—if you meet my conditions.”
“Conditions, you say…?”
It was clear this fake god didn’t understand everything about this world.
It wouldn’t hurt to tell her about its doom and about Aoi, the one destined to oppose it.
And if I could use her to make things easier for us, all the better.
“For starters, here’s what I want you to do…”
And so, feeling somewhat disgusted at how much I was starting to sound like that damn Creator God,
I began issuing orders to the so-called goddess.
