Chapter 5: The end of the nightmare
[Prepare for evaluation...]
Veil found himself in a space between dream and reality, so similar to his nightmare, yet something else entirely. It was an endless black void illuminated by myriads of stars. Between the stars, countless threads of silvery light wove together into a beautiful and unimaginably complex network, forming various knots and constellations. It was truly a breathtaking sight.
The spell was neither alive, nor dead, neither intelligent, nor mindless.
It was more a function than a being.
But Veil was not in the mood to ponder philosophical questions. He was too tired.
The spell was still evaluating his achievements.
Here, in the void, his voice no longer sounded quiet and familiar. Instead, it felt as though the universe itself was speaking.
[Contender! Your trial is over.]
[The forgotten child fell into the Labyrinth, protecting reality from emptiness. You wandered through it for centuries until, at last, you found your memories, the fragments of many people. You recreated your forgotten identity from scratch. Unbroken, you forged a blade from your essence, your memories, and your soul. With this blade, you pierced the voids of the labyrinth.]
[You defeated the creation of emptiness.]
[You achieved the impossible!]
[Final evaluation: Magnificent. Your determination truly knows no bounds.]
[Dreamer Veil, receive your blessing!]
He was no longer a Contender. Veil smiled sadly.
[You have been granted your True Name: The Forgotten Spark.]
Veil pondered who he would be when he returned.
The rewards continued to pour in.
[Your Aspect is ready to evolve. Would you like to evolve your Aspect?]
A villain or a hero?
Veil answered confidently, "Yes."
[The Dormant Aspect of the Distant Dream evolves…]
[New Aspect acquired.]
[Aspect Rank: Divine.]
Or perhaps something else?
[Aspect Name: —]
'Divine... Rank?'
The spell did not display the aspect's name, as if something was preventing it from doing so. But the more he thought about it, the more he wanted to focus on something else.
Soon, he saw this intention and realized that the aspect's name was not preventing him from seeing the spell, but something else. Something just as terrifying as the Labyrinth of Oblivion.
Aspect: [—].
Aspect Rank: [Divine].
Aspect Description: [You are the boundary between dream and reality. Your steps leave marks that cannot be erased, and your presence can be forgotten even by those who swear they've known you forever.]
Above all, Veil felt his heart beat faster, despite the fact that he had not slept in centuries and was truly dying from exhaustion. It seemed the spell highly valued his nightmare, and he had received a Divine Aspect.
People with Ascended Aspects were so rare that various factions fought for them. These factions were built around the most powerful individuals with Transcendent or Supreme Aspects. He had never heard of anyone receiving a Divine Aspect before.
Anything with the prefix "divine" was so difficult to find that it mostly existed in the realm of myths and legends. After all, humanity had not yet reached such heights. It had only been just over a decade since humans had finally conquered the Third Nightmare and gained the ability to develop their cores to the Transcendent Rank.
Transcendents – or Saints, as they were called in the real world – were powerful Awakened beings who ruled the Realm of Dreams, but even they dared not oppose Nightmarish Beings of higher ranks. Therefore, Memories and Echoes of the Supreme Rank were few and far between, not to mention the Sacred... or Divine ones. The same was true for Aspects.
But, if he thought about it, the description of his Aspect told him nothing. To be honest, he had used his own aspect in the nightmare simply to resist oblivion.
[The first seal is broken.]
[The awakening of dormant powers...]
