Shangri-La Frontier: Phantom Player:

Chapter 3: Rocky Wastes {2}

"Void serpent?" Kuro thought aloud his eyes narrowing as he focused on the source of the shaking, a tell tale sign that a void serpent is spawning is the vicious shaking of the earth, they manoeuvre through the many cracks beneath the ground and launch out to start their attack. They're extremely powerful for a reason. For one, being in the presence of a void serpent lowers your stats by 10% due to the intimidation effect. They can also move throughout any shadows so fighting them in an open area is a must. But none of these, in Kuro's opinion, compared to there main effect, the reason for their name as void serpents. This effecting being 'Shroud' it lowers your visibility by a further 30% and removes the sunlight from the area making everything extremely dark and cold. This very ability is known for being the true player killer in the end because even if they defeat the serpent they wont have enough time to make a fire and fight off the cold.
However, even after what felt like a few minutes, nothing had happened.
"Is it not a void serpent?" Kuro voiced his suspicions as he cautiously peered around him, making sure not to leave a spot blind for too long.
Once more, a deafening roar tore through the sky.
Metal shrieked Kuro's sword clashed with the claws of the night. The attack had happened in the span of less than a second, Kuro's sword recoiled in his hand and a sharp pain shot through his arm. "Holy! That was close!" He screamed as he dashed away from the night. His eyes locked with the glowing red orbs smothered deep within the void...
"This is literally the definition of 'I stared into the void and the void stared back!'" Kuro shouted as he stared at the durability of his sword from the corner of his eye. 'Was the durability this low before?' Kuro had only parried one attack yet the durability of his sword had dropped by around 60% He focused his full attention onto the void Infront of him.
'Unique Scenario Initiated: The Test From The Night'
Lycagon's interest has been peaked and she appears before you in her true form. Survive 10 minutes and land 50 attacks or more.
The reward for this scenario is unknown.
The difficulty for this scenario is unknown.
A bead of sweat rolled down Kuro's cheek as he stared down in horror at the notification staring back at him. 'Lycagon's test?' he thought moving his gaze away from the quest window and towards Lycagon. Currently, she seemed rather docile, sitting down only a few feet away from him patiently waiting for his decision. Despite the seriousness about the situation Kuro couldn't help but find the killer night wolf sitting in front of him kinda cute in a docile state.
"10 Minutes 50 attacks." He repeated the conditions of the quest debating whether or not he could even try it. He recalled a user who had blown up on the forums for having a talking bunny NPC and Lycagon's mark. "Could this be the quest they had to complete?"
After a moment of thinking, Kuro confidently clicked the accept button. He truly had no idea if he was even able to hold his own for 10 minutes or land 50 attacks but a scenario like this might not always jump up at him and so he had to make an attempt.
As soon as the system window disappeared, the fight had begun. Kuro quickly switched to his main sword as he noticed Lycagon was already gone. He revealed a dazzling black katana darker then the night's own coat. 'I really didn't want to use this sword yet but if I'm facing Lycagon I'll need the best I can get!'
Tendrils of night erupted around me. Lycagon was nowhere to be seen. I focused on the tendrils while keeping a portion of my mind focused on looking for Lycagon. The skill 'Segmented Mind' was incredibly tiring, mentally, but for this fight the strain is necessary. Attacks whirled around me like an oncoming storm. I abused my mobility skills dashing and dodging away from any danger. Although, attacks that were too fast had to be parried. Until I accurately learned how these tendrils moved even thinking about any kind of attack was out of the question.
A fire burst in my mind like an explosion, Lycagon tore through the night attempting to annihilate me with a biting attack. I strained. Pushing all my strength into my legs I jumped backwards. Lycagon's jaw crushing down on the spot I had just stood. My eyes widened, 'Its punishable!' I activated a powerful movement skill and dashed towards Lycagon.
"Fivefold Tempest!" I screamed, my sword lit up and I pounced towards Lycagon hitting a clean five hit combo. A tendril of shadow shot out of the ground. Rapidly, I veered causing the tendril to slam into a nearby boulder behind me. 'Praise the segmented mind!' I thought as my gaze danced from the demolished boulder and back onto Lycagon. Lycagon unexpectedly swung around slamming her tail towards me. A crescent of night energy flung in my direction. I dropped onto the floor to evade by a hairs breadth.
My gaze swished to the quest timer, 'Tch its only been 3 minutes?' Lycagon stood oppressively still just a few feet ahead of Kuro, her eyes gleamed as if daring him to come closer. Kuro readied his katana. Lycagon released a deafening howl. Tendrils exploded out in every direction. Their speed nearly doubled. Lycagon disappeared into the veil of night. The screams and shrieks of metal echoed throughout the entire rocky wastes as Kuro tirelessly parried and dodged every single attack that came at him.
Lycagon reappeared falling down towards him from above. His mind raced and heart pounded like a galloping horse, 'Too fast!' His eyes darted searching for any solution. He forced more power into his skill 'Segmented Mind' His mind tore. ripped into an uncountable number of fragments each analytically scanning the battlefield for any solution. Shouts and screams of different routes and plans ate away at his mind.
