Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Mizuki's Wishful Thinking
With the Third Hokage's personal recommendation, Xu Fan's enrollment process went smoothly.
"Now, I just need to go to the ninja academy, find Iruka-sensei to complete the enrollment, and, by the way, take care of the sign-in task," Xu Fan thought to himself.
After five years in the village, Xu Fan was already familiar with the layout of Konoha. It took him about half an hour to walk from his residence to the ninja academy.
Hiruzen had already informed the academy's teachers to take good care of Xu Fan.
"You're Senju Xu, right?"
As soon as Xu Fan entered the ninja academy, a chūnin teacher called out to him.
Xu Fan's eyes flickered with surprise. The person greeting him was none other than a rather infamous figure in the Naruto world—Mizuki-sensei.
"Yes," Xu Fan nodded. Although Mizuki was known for being deceitful, cunning, and jealous, Xu Fan didn't particularly care. If Mizuki tried to manipulate him into stealing the Scroll of Seals, it might even work in his favor.
Learning the forbidden techniques from the scroll and then framing Mizuki would be a win-win situation.
"Senju-san?" Mizuki noticed Xu Fan's distracted expression and raised his voice, calling his name several times.
"Ah, nothing," Xu Fan shook his head, a smile forming on his lips. "I just remembered something happy."
"Something happy? Ah, I see," Mizuki replied, his smile as sunny as ever. If one didn't know his true nature, they might easily be fooled by his harmless, friendly demeanor.
"Guess how I recognized you so quickly?" Mizuki gestured for Xu Fan to follow him, offering to show him around the academy.
"Because of this?" Xu Fan pointed to the Senju clan's emblem on his chest.
He wasn't a celebrity, so it wasn't as if everyone in the village knew him. But the Senju clan's symbol was unmistakable.
"That's right. Senju-san is really smart," Mizuki maintained his cheerful smile.
However, deep down, Mizuki pitied Xu Fan.
Normally, children could enroll in the ninja academy at a certain age, receive ninja training, and graduate as genin. But Xu Fan was already thirteen—the age when most students would have graduated.
If he were a genius like Kakashi or Uchiha Itachi, he might already be a jōnin by now.
Every time Mizuki thought about such prodigies, he couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.
"The Senju clan, huh," Mizuki sighed inwardly.
For anyone else, it might not be a big deal. But the Senju name carried the weight of Konoha's history.
Hashirama Senju, the God of Shinobi, was a legend. Tsunade, one of the Sannin, was a medical genius.
And then there was Xu Fan...
Thirteen years old, not even a genin, and just now enrolling in the academy. Mizuki suspected that Hiruzen had taken pity on him and approved his enrollment.
Realistically, Xu Fan's chances of graduating, let alone becoming a genin, were slim.
"Another Naruto Uzumaki," Mizuki thought disdainfully.
Every time he saw Naruto, the so-called "demon fox," trying so hard, Mizuki found it amusing. No matter how much effort Naruto put in, he would never become a true ninja.
Xu Fan seemed to be in the same boat.
"By the way, is this your first time here?" Mizuki asked, making small talk as they walked.
"No, I came here five years ago, but I wasn't able to enroll. This time, it's thanks to the Third Hokage," Xu Fan replied casually.
Before officially becoming a student, Xu Fan needed to visit the registrar's office with Mizuki to complete the enrollment process.
As they walked, the halls were empty, with no other students in sight.
"I see," Mizuki nodded, his pity for Xu Fan growing.
"But if I play my cards right, this guy might be useful," Mizuki thought, his mind racing.
As a chūnin instructor, Mizuki knew that a copy of the Scroll of Seals was kept in the Hokage's office. It contained numerous forbidden techniques.
If only he could get his hands on it...
"Will I be assigned to the first-year class?" Xu Fan asked suddenly.
The ninja academy wasn't large, and each grade had only a few dozen students. In less than a few minutes, Mizuki and Xu Fan arrived at the faculty office.
Ding! Congratulations, host! You have successfully arrived at the sign-in location. Sign-in has officially begun!
Quitting midway will result in sign-in failure!
Progress bar starting...
1%... 23%...
"So, I had to walk here to trigger the sign-in," Xu Fan murmured to himself. He had wondered why the sign-in assistance hadn't activated earlier. It seemed the range for this sign-in was different from before.
66%... 100%!
Congratulations, host! Sign-in successful!
Mission Reward: Proficiency in all five chakra natures—Wind, Lightning, Fire, Water, and Earth!
As the system's voice faded, Xu Fan felt a mysterious power surge through his body, merging with him seamlessly.
"All five chakra natures?" Xu Fan was slightly surprised.
As someone familiar with Naruto, he knew a bit about chakra natures. However, he wasn't sure if everyone possessed all five natures, with only one or two being prominent, or if most people only had one or two.
For example, Naruto specialized in Wind Release, while Sasuke excelled in Lightning and Fire Release.
But now, Xu Fan could effortlessly utilize all five natures—Wind, Lightning, Fire, Water, and Earth.
However, after completing this sign-in, the next quest didn't appear immediately.
"It seems the sign-in quests don't come one after another," Xu Fan thought.
Still, the first two rewards had been incredibly generous, making Xu Fan even more excited for what was to come.
"Alright, don't dawdle," Mizuki's voice interrupted Xu Fan's thoughts.
While Xu Fan had been focused on his sign-in, Mizuki had already completed the enrollment paperwork.
"Now, I'll take you to your class. Are you ready?" Mizuki asked with a smile.
"Sure," Xu Fan replied eagerly. He had been looking forward to this.
However, when Mizuki led Xu Fan to the classroom, they found it empty.
"Ah... I remember now," Mizuki said, realization dawning. "Iruka's class has a practical training session today."
He glanced at Xu Fan. "It seems your luck... isn't great."
Although the students in Iruka's class were younger than Xu Fan, they had all enrolled through normal channels. In terms of actual combat, Xu Fan was likely to be outmatched.
But...
This made Mizuki even more excited.
The more Xu Fan struggled, the easier it would be for Mizuki to manipulate him into stealing the Scroll of Seals.
