Chapter 391: Chapter 387.
Chapter 387.
Within the Slaughter City, Hu Liena had gauged Wang Wu's strength to be around the level of a Soul Douluo. Yet, after witnessing him traverse the Hell Road and later seeing him defeat even the Ghost Douluo, her perception had changed drastically.
Six months later, the appointed day arrived. Wang Wu appeared at the Supreme Pontiff's Palace and faced off against five Titled Douluo one after the other.
Step by step, his formidable power was revealed, forcing even two Elders to intervene to barely restrain him. Such strength was beyond anything Hu Liena had imagined. Her admiration was now evident in her gaze, her eyes shining with mixed emotions.
"Impressive! Truly impressive!"
Bibi Dong finally spoke, her voice carrying a rare warmth. Her piercing gaze fell upon the figure in white at the center of the square.
Wang Wu.
What a simple name, yet behind it stood an enigmatic powerhouse who had emerged from the frigid extremes of the north. His cultivation, soul bones, abilities, martial soul, and soul rings—every aspect of his being—seemed uniquely exceptional.
Compared to Jiu Yikai from four years ago, Wang Wu was not only comparable but far superior.
Most importantly, he had saved Hu Liena, proving he bore no ill will toward the Soul Hall. Ghost Douluo and Chrysanthemum Douluo had also dealt with the matter prudently, earning an opportunity for Bibi Dong to recruit this extraordinary individual into her ranks.
If such a powerhouse could be tethered to the Soul Hall, their ambitions for the future would become a reality.
As Bibi Dong watched Wang Wu conquer one battle after another—six in total—each brought her a new sense of awe.
"Wang Wu, are you truly willing to join our Soul Hall?"
Her smile was calm as she approached the square, flanked by seven Titled Douluo.
Wang Feng, however, remained on high alert. Should anything seem amiss, he was prepared to escape in an instant.
Reflecting on his battles, Wang Feng had carefully assessed each one. Only his match against Golden Crocodile Douluo, a 97th-level Titled Douluo, had posed a challenge beyond his expectations. The other five duels, however, unfolded as he had envisioned.
"If you sincerely join our Soul Hall," Bibi Dong continued, her tone sharp and commanding, "I will grant you a position second only to mine. I offer you the title of White Pontiff, a status directly under the Supreme Pontiff. Furthermore, I will propose to the Elder Hall to appoint you as the third consecration!"
Her eyes burned with intensity as she gazed at Wang Wu.
Wang Feng's thoughts raced. Within the Soul Hall, there were two primary factions, the Supreme Pontiff Hall, led by Bibi Dong, and the Elder Hall, a body with significant decision-making authority in the Hall's affairs.
The Elder Hall was complex, home to many powerful individuals. Although Bibi Dong had consolidated much of her authority, several Titled Douluo within the Elder Hall remained independent, not fully under her command. The most notable example was Qian Daoliu, a peerless Douluo and a legendary figure in his own right.
The Supreme Pontiff Hall served as the administrative and executive center for Soul Hall operations across the continent.
In essence, it was a hierarchy of governance, one that Wang Feng understood clearly.
For Bibi Dong to offer him the position of White Pontiff, directly under her command, spoke volumes about her desire to win him over.
Even so, the Elder Hall could not be overlooked. For her to propose him as the third consecration was an acknowledgment of his strength and –an attempt to solidify his presence within the Soul Hall's structure.
Both positions—White Pontiff and the third consecration—were roles of immense power and prestige.
Golden Crocodile Douluo furrowed his brow but held his tongue. He couldn't deny the White Death God's abilities, though Bibi Dong's decision seemed unusually bold. The position of third consecration was traditionally determined through consultation with the Elder Hall, where the Supreme Pontiff could only nominate a candidate.
It was evident Bibi Dong intended to cultivate Wang Wu as a trusted confidant.
Hu Liena's eyes widened in astonishment as she stared at Wang Wu. She understood the gravity of the White Pontiff title that her master was willing to bestow. It seems equivalent to the position of the Supreme Pontiff. After Bibi Dong ascended to power, the Pontiff title had been abolished altogether.
For her teacher to reinstate it now and offer it to Wang Wu showed how highly she valued him. Even adding the word White in front of the title to show his uniqueness.
Hu Liena's cheeks flushed slightly as her admiration for the White Death God grew.
"Titles and status are inconsequential to me," Wang Feng said lightly, his tone calm. "My interest in joining the Soul Hall stems purely from curiosity. However, your Soul Hall has indeed piqued my interest."
This response pleased Bibi Dong. Gaining Wang Wu's loyalty was worth the extensive effort and carefully designed offers she had prepared.
Of course, Wang Feng was fully aware that such promises came with strings attached. Bibi Dong would certainly test him, her trust not easily given. However, this proximity to her inner circle would grant him access to the Soul Hall's deepest secrets.
"Good."
Bibi Dong's smile grew brighter. "I have shown you my sincerity, Wang Wu. It is now your turn to demonstrate yours."
"What do you require?" Wang Feng asked.
Bibi Dong gestured toward the mask on his face.
"This. Remove it. As White Pontiff of the Soul Hall, you cannot hide your face. Rest assured, even if you bear any imperfections, our Soul Hall will ensure you are healed and presentable."
Wang Feng smirked inwardly. This was a calculated move by Bibi Dong to probe him further.
Having watched countless spy thrillers in his previous life, Wang Feng anticipated this test and was unfazed.
"Additionally," Bibi Dong added, "your age."
Hu Liena held her breath, her curiosity about these details overwhelming.
"Very well," Wang Feng said calmly. "My age... I am nearing forty."
The seven Titled Douluo, along with Bibi Dong, scrutinized him intensely. Any hesitation or inconsistency might raise suspicion.
However, Wang Feng's demeanor was steady. His words were truthful, after all—his soul's true age was indeed nearing forty.
Forty?!
Hu Liena's heart raced. At forty, a soul master was still in their prime. Even the infamous Haotian Douluo had reached Titled Douluo at this age.
And yet, the White Death God, not even forty, already rivaled a 96th-level Titled Douluo. His talent was astonishing.
"My cultivation path differs from conventional soul masters," Wang Feng explained. "It cannot be measured by traditional soul power levels. Surely, you have already witnessed the results for yourselves."
The Titled Douluo exchanged nods. Wang Wu's unorthodox methods were apparent and undeniably effective.
Bibi Dong, however, felt an undercurrent of delight. This White Death God's talent exceeded even the legendary Haotian Douluo's!
"As for the mask," Wang Feng said with a faint smile, "rest assured, my face bears no imperfections. I wear it only to avoid unnecessary attention. Since you wish to see, I will oblige…"
With that, Wang Feng reached up and removed the mask without hesitation.
