Sky-cracking Rider

Chapter 269: Section 268 - Scientific Expedition Team_2

"Planning to sacrifice yourself to feed the wolves?"

"Sorry, I took a wrong turn, goodbye!"

Chen Fei obviously didn't turn and leave, instead, he stopped and leisurely asked, "Aren't you guys considering your own safety first?"

As he spoke, he grabbed the neck of an attacking fierce wolf with one hand, letting it struggle and scratch wildly on him. He casually didn't even bother to dodge and continued to hold the big grey wolf by the neck, its struggle quickly becoming weak and powerless.

"Please don't hurt them; we trespassed into their hunting grounds. These wolves aren't the threat."

The person looked nervously at the grey wolf in Chen Fei's hand, fearing it would be strangled to death right there and then.

Chen Fei couldn't help but feel disgusted. They were about to die, yet they were still concerned about whether the wild beasts about to eat them had good teeth — what kind of thought process was this.

He threw away the thing in his hand that was like a dog with disdain, once again eliciting a series of whimpers.

Turning around, he pointed at the inhumane wolves and scolded, "You bastards, not fond of studying, just like to make trouble in groups. Have you finished today's homework? Written your short essays yet? What are you still doing here? Waiting for me to treat you to a meal?"

Chen Fei regarded these fierce wolves as the elementary students educated by Teacher Shen Fei. Weren't the students from Patan Elementary School, each armed with a sharp dagger, just like a pack of little wolves?

Then he grabbed the wolves attacking him one by one, slamming them hard into the pack. It was like bowling, with each throw knocking over several wolves. The scene momentarily spiraled out of control.

After a series of chaotic throws, the wolf pack finally realized that this uninvited guest was not easy to provoke, their pride in their fangs and claws utterly useless. They growled and gave way, allowing Chen Fei to approach the scientific expedition team smoothly.

"That was too rough just now!"

The person Chen Fei had just been speaking with was wearing a fisherman's hat, with a scruffy beard and a pair of round-rimmed glasses, came forward and faced him fearlessly.

"You haven't seen rough yet!"

Chen Fei retorted irritably.

"Are you alone?"

The other party, however, was good-natured, not the least bit angry. Instead, he gazed into the distant sky.

But was disappointed to see nothing.

"I alone am more than enough!"

Chen Fei made a fist-bump gesture, thinking back to the night when he, all by himself, had fought a never-ending horde of mutants — a night filled with corpses and rivers of blood, until those mutants, frightened by the killing, retreated on their own.

Compared to mutants, a few hundred wolves around him were barely an issue.

"I'm Charles Grayson, the leader of this scientific expedition team."

The man with round-rimmed glasses and a fisherman's hat, with a scruffy beard, did not question Chen Fei's words and immediately reached out his hand.

Chen Fei took off his tactical helmet and shook hands with the other party, saying "Jiu Defense Company, Aircrew Base 911, Chen Fei."

There was no need to mention his position, as that might cause panic; after all, mentioning it at this critical moment would be more frightening than the wolf pack.

"Where is your guide and security personnel?"

Chen Fei looked around and noticed a few people in camouflage outfits holding nothing in their hands, no weapons nor the attire of locals.

The situation of the scientific expedition team did not look good, about a quarter of them were lying on the ground, moaning. Some had pale faces, some were covered in bloodstains.

Those who could still move gathered together, periodically spraying a mist of water into the air, which triggered the wolf pack's angry roar and lunging movements, but there were no substantial approaches.

However, looking at the liquid in the spray bottle, it seemed there wasn't much left; the time they could continue to hold out was extremely limited.

"The leader of the expedition, Charles Grayson, looked back at the still terrified team members, sighed, and said, "Uh! We originally had a guide and four armed guards, but two days ago, the guide suddenly disappeared, and one of the guards vanished as well. Then, insects and snakes bit two of the guards, so now we are left with just one guard."

It was not uncommon for field expeditions to encounter unexpected incidents, but the disappearance of a local guide and armed guards was extremely rare.

Local guides, being familiar with the environment, should have been better at avoiding danger; however, the first one to encounter a mishap cast a shadow over the team's mission.

"You have too few guards. A team like yours should have at least eight guards. Where are the guns? Why didn't you bring firearms?"

Chen Fei sized up the expedition team trapped by the wolf pack; since he charged into the circle, the wolves had become increasingly restless and wary, with the subdued wild wolves being particularly frightened and clearly psychologically scarred.

"They are all here."

Charles Grayson opened a trunk, revealing neatly arranged automatic weapons.

To avoid the armed guards using firearms on their own and causing harm to the wolf pack, he had specifically confiscated the guns for centralized management.

The only remaining guard looked helplessly at Chen Fei, facing such an unreasonable sponsor, there was really nothing he could do.

"Mr. Grayson, are you stupid?"

Chen Fei regarded him as if looking at an idiot.

Had it come to the point where priorities were no longer distinguishable?

He grabbed an automatic weapon, pulled the bolt, switched off the safety, aimed above the wolves' heads, and pulled the trigger.

A burst of gunfire ensued, and the wolf pack scattered in all directions; these creatures had been taught by the local mountain people to recognize automatic firearms.

"Don't, don't shoot! Those wolves are innocent."

Charles Grayson shouted, trying to stop Chen Fei's firing. Explore more adventures at empire

The scattered wolf pack regrouped, once again surrounding the expedition team and Chen Fei, leaving no way out.

"Will they still be innocent when you're buried in the bellies of wolves?"

Chen Fei let the other man snatch the automatic weapon from his hands; with that shot, he had emptied the magazine.

A short, stout female team member grabbed it and said, "You can't say that, wolves are part of the food chain, and we mustn't interfere directly with their lives."

"Fine then! You go fill the wolves' bellies. I can hear it; they're crying out in hunger!"

Chen Fei pointed unapologetically at the menacing wolf lurking not far away.

"You're talking about murder!"

The female team member glared at Chen Fei angrily.

"Humans are also part of the food chain; it's either eat or be eaten. You think you are superior to them; why didn't you mention that a moment ago?"

Chen Fei hated such double standards. He grabbed her by the neck and threw her into the wolf pack for an on-site demonstration of beasts eating humans to wake these fools up – those whose scientific rationality was clouded by their own ignorance – to what 'survival of the fittest' really meant.
