Sky-cracking Rider

Chapter 272: Section 271 - The New King

Strength goes where strength wills, the gentle breeze brushes the hills. His course lies where he fancies, as the bright moon shines upon the great river.

KUANG!

Chen Fei didn't move, allowing the Shadow Wolf to crash into him with a thud, before sprawling in a backflying sprawl to where it came from.

Damage +1!

This "Light Armor" really defies science.

Even the Science and Education Team members, watching from afar, felt the pain.

The Shadow Wolf smelled blood, but it was its own.

The sharp angles of the Personal Armor cut through its fur, and the blood seeped out little by little, gathering into droplets that fell to the ground, disappearing in an instant between the gravel and soil.

Perhaps it was the scent of the Shadow Wolf's own blood that incited the wolf pack into a frenzy, all howling in a shrill and piercing chorus.

The members of the Science and Education Team, encircled in the middle, all turned pale, their faces bombarded with the terrifying howls. What the hell did these vicious wolves mean by howling so desperately?

A faint black mist rose from the Shadow Wolf's paws, but before it could thicken, a dazzling ray of light burst forth from the sky. The black mist that was about to create a shadow transformation effect on the wolf's body was instantly dispersed, never to form again.

Chen Fei was not fighting alone.

The Pure Light Sparrow's Light-based Spells almost perfectly suppressed the Shadow Wolf's innate abilities, reducing its combat effectiveness from a full hundred percent to a mere thirty or forty percent.

The enraged Shadow Wolf launched a few more fierce attacks.

But to no avail!

It was a classic case of attacking the enemy's strengths with one's own weaknesses, doomed to be in vain. Even its claws and fangs were completely ineffective against Chen Fei's "Light Armor".

Chen Fei, like a humanoid tank, could easily make a move and send the Shadow Wolf retreating in disorder and covered in dust.

Boom!~

A heavy strike landed hard on the Shadow Wolf's waist.

A blow to the soft waist that neither the Asian Gray Wolf nor the Shadow Wolf could withstand, the so-called A4 tiny waist simply couldn't bear the hit. It emitted a loud cry of anguish, then heavily slumped to the ground, unable to get up for a while.

Chen Fei bent down, grabbed the wolf's neck, and lifted it straight off the ground.

Little Bird swooped down from the sky and perched on Chen Fei's shoulder, releasing over a dozen Illumination Technique Light Orbs that enveloped the Magical Beast in light from all sides with no dead angles. Possessing a wealth of Dark Element talents, it was yet completely unable to utilize any of them.

Fortunately for them, it was daytime and the sun had not yet set. The wolf pack had gotten cocky, and the Shadow Wolf had no environmental advantage to exploit.

Had it been night, the situation might have been reversed, with Little Bird's Light-element talents being suppressed by the Magical Beast.

But now, the Shadow Wolf had no such opportunity, and moreover, it was captured by Chen Fei.

"Little black dog, do you submit?"

Chen Fei tightened his grip, and the struggling Shadow Wolf immediately had nothing left but to twitch weakly.

Dark Monsters are rarely known for their strength or defense. Once they lose their innate abilities, at best they're slightly faster than ordinary wild beasts, with a little more burst strength.

Limited by its innate abilities, it could not struggle free, and with these mere trumps left, it had no right to resist in Chen Fei's hands and faced being strangled alive.

Chen Fei held the Shadow Wolf, leaving it just enough breath, shook it a few times, and demanded, "Do you submit, little black dog?"

Shadow Wolf: Thirty years in the east of the river, thirty years in the west, do not bully... Ah, sorry, wrong set.

"Awooo!"

It had only the deep mournful howl from its throat.

"Kill it!"

"Finish it off!"

The members of the Science and Education Team, who had long suffered at the paws of the Shadow Wolf, cheered and clapped, shouting for blood, wanting Chen Fei to take revenge and finish off this arch-culprit right there and then.

The wolf pack ran about in confusion, even forgetting to press on the Science and Education Team, lost and helpless in their whimpers, as if they had completely lost their fighting spirit, no longer displaying the bravery from before. Many wolves even tucked their tails between their legs, showing signs of scattering.

The large wolf pack, originally forcibly united by the Shadow Wolf, would quickly dissolve without their leader, their wolfish hearts scattering, liable to split back into their previous smaller groupings at any moment.

"Do you submit?"

Chen Fei asked for the last time.

Even if the Shadow Wolf didn't understand his words, it should at least understand the killing intent within them.

"Whimper..."

The Shadow Wolf stopped struggling, resigned to let Chen Fei manipulate its neck, ready to be slaughtered or carved at his whim.

Thump!

Chen Fei threw the Magical Beast to the ground, looked around, and shouted, "Who else? Who dares to defy?"

The wolf pack was silent, unsure of what to make of him.

If the Wolf King was beaten down, what could they possibly do?

Charles Grayson, the leader of the Science and Education Team, seemed to think of something and quickly shouted, "Quick! Howl like a wolf! Declare your position, otherwise the wolf pack will scatter."

In the struggle for kingship, the old king is disposed of, but the new king has yet to ascend. Without a leader, the wolf pack would soon disperse, each forming their own factions.

If this young man could become the king of this wolf pack, it would also serve as a strong guarantee for the safety of the Science and Education Team. At the very least, they would no longer have to worry about being attacked by wolves.

"Howl like a wolf, for what?"

Chen Fei picked up the Shadow Wolf, now playing dead, and walked towards the Science and Education Team.

Charles Grayson quickly explained, "Howling means you are willing to be the leader of this pack of wolves, the new Wolf King. Controlling a pack of wolves can only be good for you, not bad."

Any creature could become the king of a wolf pack, who would have thought the rumor would turn into reality.

"Awooo!~~"

Chen Fei, after all, wasn't a real wolf and didn't have any connection to wolves, not even half a strand of hair, so his imitation of a "wolf howl" was somewhat absurd.

As if triggering some kind of ritual, after he howled a few times, and when his voice fell, all the gray wolves unanimously lifted their heads and let out long howls together.

"It's settled! You are now the new Wolf King, and all these wolves will heed your call."

Charles Grayson clapped his hands excitedly; he had only speculated and had Chen Fei try it out, but he hadn't expected it would actually work.

"I don't like being with a pack of wolves at all."

Chen Fei picked up the Shadow Wolf in his hand, shook it, and then said, "My target is this guy!"

Shadow Wolf: Just kill me!

It had given up struggling, resigned to its fate.

"As long as you feed these wolves, they'll stay obedient. An opportunity like this is rare."

But Charles Grayson didn't think so; a human becoming the king of a wolf pack was an extremely rare occurrence.

A wolf pack was like an army, not only clearly hierarchical but also highly obedient. If they could be properly commanded, they would be a great asset.

"Feed them? Don't make me laugh. Over three hundred wolves, how much would they eat in one meal?"

Chen Fei quickly shook his head; he wanted nothing to do with these wolves.

The only reason he became the king of this pack was because he had been tricked by the leader with double standards!

"You could raise rabbits. Rabbits breed in large numbers, mature sexually in half a year, give birth every two months, and each time at least four offspring, which is more than enough to feed these wolves."

The unlikable female member of the science team surprisingly offered a very feasible suggestion.

By breeding a sufficient number of rabbits, as long as there were enough, they could continuously provide rabbit meat to feed the wolves.

All that would be expended would be some grass fodder.

"I don't want to!"

Raising rabbits would be even worse than looking after horses. Chen Fei shook his head and swung his arm at the wolf pack.

"Scram, all of you bloody scram!"

He kicked away a few wolves that had lost their ferocity and tucked their tails between their legs. This pack of cowards bored Chen Fei.

The Shadow Wolf in his hand still looked utterly forlorn.

After chasing them around, the wolf pack finally left their king reluctantly, scattering with howls.

"Thank God, I'm saved!"

As the last gray wolf disappeared from sight, the members of the science team collapsed onto the ground, lacking the strength to even move a finger.

The last drops of beast repellent had been used up, and their stockpile of electricity for emitting beast-repelling sound waves was also nearly exhausted.

Watching Chen Fei forcefully dispersing the wolf pack, the leader of the science team, Charles Grayson, said with some incomprehension, "What you're doing is useless, isn't it?"

"Useless?"

Chen Fei was equally puzzled.

He had chased them all away just like that. Would that pack of wolves still cling to him?

Charles Grayson explained, "The wolf pack has memorized your voice. As soon as you shout, they will immediately assemble before you."

Unless a new challenger appeared, Chen Fei's status as the Wolf King would remain unchallenged.

Chen Fei said helplessly, "What a bunch of annoying buggers!"

He shook his head, looked at the Shadow Wolf in his hand, and pointed at its nose with displeasure, "It's all your fault!"

"I suggest you'd better kill it to prevent future troubles. Blue Star needs gray wolves, not Magical Beasts."

Charles Grayson looked at the Shadow Wolf warily, deliberately keeping his distance so as not to get caught in any sudden outbreak. Continue reading on empire

"No, it's my spoils of war. I do things my way. I don't need you guys telling me what to do!"

Chen Fei's bad impression of these Madonnas hadn't changed at all, and he refused unapologetically. He looked over the camp full of the wounded team members and said to the Little Bird on his shoulder, "Xiao Jiu, go around casting the Light Healing Technique."

Without medical supplies in the wild mountains, if they weren't treated, things could get worse.

"Jiu!"

The Little Bird obediently flew over, and over a dozen Illumination Technique Light Orbs still tightly surrounded Chen Fei's Shadow Wolf like a cage of light, restraining the Dark Monster's innate abilities.

It was broad daylight with the sun high in the sky, otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to trap the Shadow Wolf with just the Illumination Technique.

One Light Healing Technique per person, minor wounds and even symptoms of poisoning were effectively alleviated almost immediately.

If one Light Healing Technique wasn't enough, then two were used.

The Pure Light Sparrow of Human Order Third Rank could now emit more than a dozen Light Healing Techniques in one breath without taking a break.

Seeing this scene, the science team leader Charles Grayson said with admiration, "Truly a Light-element Magical Beast!"

This was the first time he had seen such an aggressively protective Magical Beast. The Pure Light Sparrow of Human Order Third Rank was so unique.

After treating the wounded, they waited for about an hour longer at the site. Then, a small Sky Patrol Ship flew in from the distance, descended slowly from the sky, and the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee finally arrived.
