Chapter 277: Section 276 - The Gatekeeper Wolf
Chen Fei pointed at the Shadow Wolf that Teacher Shen Fei finally guessed right about its true identity and said, "A Third Rank Shadow Wolf!"
"Wait a second, a Shadow Wolf?!"
Shen Fei once again looked over the black wolf with an innocent expression.
No, wasn't it that one from the other day...
Forget it, better go get the Model 95 and avenge the former "Ah Mao."
Chen Fei pulled her back just in time.
He had finally tamed it, and it had started to obey a bit; shooting it would be such a waste.
"Hold on, this Shadow Wolf is here to repay a debt."
"Repay a debt?"
Teacher Shen Fei was puzzled; she was worried that the Shadow Wolf might suddenly lash out and injure her students.
Better to kill it quickly.
"Its name is now 'Ah Mao'!"
Chen Fei shrugged his shoulders.
The Shadow Wolf still looked dumb, completely unaware that the previous "Ah Mao" had been bitten to death by itself.
"What?"
Teacher Shen finally caught up with Chen Fei's train of thought.
"Killing the dog to pay for the crime, naturally it should repay with its life, death penalty can be spared but not the living punishment, this Shadow Wolf will be your wolf from now on, you provide food and shelter but not a salary."
Chen Fei finally revealed his well-thought-out plan.
If this deal were presented to the Golden-Eyed Azure-Hearted Civet, it would definitely flip out on the spot!
A wild magical beast born and bred in nature knew nothing about salary; not even able to count as undocumented, it had eaten someone's dog and now had to use its whole life to repay.
Yikes... This tragic life of the wolf wasn't even worth stripping for its Crystal Core!
"This, how can this be, it's a magical beast!"
Teacher Shen Fei was shocked; the previous "Ah Mao" was just a common Shan Yang fine dog, but the "Ah Mao" in front of her was a genuine magical beast, clearly so valuable.
"That day, while on a mission, I caught it casually, it didn't cost money, you don't have to worry about it being too precious."
Chen Fei looked toward the magic contract scroll in Teacher Shen Fei's hand which was truly valuable.
Thinking about another 500,000 Star Yuan ruined by Xiao Jiu, how heartbreaking!
"Heh, you've got heart!"
Teacher Shen laughed, shaking her head; although there was no actual cost, Chen Fei had gone to a lot of trouble.
She had just lost the big black dog "Ah Mao," and the other party immediately captured the culprit to sell itself to pay off the debt; this Shadow Wolf was really unlucky.
However, having a magical beast's protection, the defensive strength of Patan Elementary School might rise more than a notch.
Within a five hundred-mile radius, the most heavily guarded was naturally Aircrew Base 911, second only to this mountain area school; even the larger villages around it fell behind; would people believe it if told?
"For the safety of those students, you better sign a contract with it quickly!"
Chen Fei pointed to the scroll in Shen Fei's hand,
holding the sole surviving Contract Scroll barely rescued from Xiao Jiu's beak.
"This, isn't necessary, right? You keep it and make the contract yourself."
Teacher Shen Fei clearly understood what a magic contract meant.
Even the most basic magic contract could establish an equal communication link with the magical beast, preserving a lifelong bond for both parties.
"I don't need it!"
Chen Fei shook his head and then raised his hand, making a fist, and said, "I have this, that's enough!"
A fist works better than a magic contract, teach the other party to sing "Conquer" at the slightest disagreement, compliance wasn't optional.
Seeing Chen Fei's fist, the Shadow Wolf whimpered and involuntarily stepped back two steps, in complete panic.
In the past few days, it had suffered quite a few of Chen Fei's punches and had been quite battered.
Aircrew Base 911 had Xiao Jiu in the sky, and Golden-Eyed Azure-Hearted Civet on the ground, they really didn't lack a Shadow Wolf, whereas Teacher Shen's Patan Elementary School stood isolated among the mountains, despite being near the villages of the Patan Highlanders, it still had a certain distance.
The erected wire mesh fence along with the Shadow Wolf finally counted as real double insurance.
"Teacher Shen, hurry and sign the contract!"
Chen Fei gestured, bent down to grab one of the Shadow Wolf's front paws, took an iron rod from his waist, and in a blink, it turned into a sharp willow leaf knife, he scraped off a small patch of fur from the paw, and directly pricked it with the knife tip, collecting some wolf blood.
Then he helped Teacher Shen Fei unfold the magic contract scroll, pressed the knife tip with the wolf blood onto it; the willow leaf knife then turned into a fine needle, a flick of a lighter and the job was done.
Urged by Chen Fei, Teacher Shen Fei, half reluctant and half willing, made it happen.
The parchment contract disintegrated into light particles in the air, leaving only the fine copper shaft rods at both ends.
The contract was established!
What's done was done, and it was too late to back out.
"From now on, you better work hard right here, protect the students in the school, especially Teacher Shen. If you dare to slack off or disobey, I'll kill you and stew your meat!"
Chen Fei gestured a throat-slitting motion toward the Shadow Wolf, scaring it into yelping and tucking its tail between its legs.
Turning a Shadow Wolf into stew, now that's a bit bewildering!
The freshly appointed "Ah Mao" trembled in fear, knowing full well that any slight mistake would mean a fate worse than death, irrespective of whether it could be turned into stew or not!
The psychological shadow Chen Fei had cast on this creature was immeasurable; a perfectly fine wolf was beaten into a mere dog.
Seeing the Shadow Wolf cower so cautiously satisfied Chen Fei, who then unhooked the traction rope from the four-wheeled camping trailer and kicked it towards Teacher Shen.
Although it was an Equality Contract, it was enough to ensure that the Shadow Wolf wouldn't harm Teacher Shen Fei. As for those Patan Elementary students, Chen Fei couldn't care less.
"You rascal!"
Teacher Shen Fei shook her head as the Shadow Wolf hid behind her, fearfully looking towards Chen Fei.
She might not accept this new "Ah Mao" anytime soon, but she still found it hard to watch Chen Fei's rough treatment.
A wolf can be killed, but not humiliated.
"Go, stay in the corner and don't get in the way."
The pots on the stove were making sputtering noises. Teacher Shen pointed to a corner in the kitchen, afraid of stepping on this Magical Beast that had been cowed.
The Shadow Wolf took a long look at Shen Fei, then retreated a few steps, merging into the shadows where the light couldn't reach and completely disappeared.
It was still in the kitchen but had used its shadow camouflage to hide its form, an innate ability of a Shadow Wolf.
However, in the presence of a Light-element Magical Beast, it often found no place to demonstrate its abilities, being utterly suppressed.
"Woo!~~~"
The big yellow dog "Ah Hu" had mustered up courage for a long time before daring to poke its head into the kitchen. It saw the black wolf gradually disappearing into the shadows, and its legs weakened with fright, emitting a scared noise.
That terrible creature was still there; it was simply too terrifying!
"What a useless thing, I'll butcher it for meat someday."
Chen Fei looked at the cowardly big yellow dog and revealed a fierce smile. In the countryside, dogs are kept for guarding the house or for meat.
Wolf meat is tough and gamey, but dog meat is tender and delicious.
Gulp!
The big yellow dog fainted outright, the dog's life is hard indeed!
"Stop scaring 'Ah Hu', it's time to eat!"
Teacher Shen Fei pushed Chen Fei annoyedly and announced it was time to dine.
-
After lunch, Chen Fei rearranged Teacher Shen's kitchen, adding two sets of tall steel shelves.
He extracted samples he had previously absorbed from the "Physical Evolution Database" and, using the "Hi-Fi Replication" and "Metal Shaping" skills along with Energy Points, replicated large commercial electric ovens, fermenting boxes, dough mixers, automatic stir-fry machines, and dishwashers which professionalized the rudimentary kitchen, saving Shen Fei a lot of effort when cooking for the students.
These appliances certainly consumed a lot of electricity, so Chen Fei contributed his own stored Crystalline Block, which had an energy density far exceeding Teacher Shen's farad capacitors and could fully supply the entire school's electricity for a whole week, even with some excess left over.
The wind and solar power generation units of Patan Elementary already had a surplus of power generation capacity, sufficient to ensure that the balance of electricity revenue and expenses could be maintained even with the additional appliances.
Chen Fei could also use his own skill "Power Management Module" to match and power the energy conversion modules for the Crystalline Block, quickly charging it in a short time.
Luckily, Mr. Abel, the head chef of the base canteen, let Chen Fei absorb all the electric appliances in the kitchen and then restore them one by one.
Just as Old David's treasured F-22 "Raptor" jet fighter, most of the canteen's appliances were now replicas, all conveniently refurbished, perhaps able to continue functioning for another decade, while the originals had become samples within the Energy Points and "Physical Evolution Database."
Chen Fei had carefully saved a few Energy Points, and now they were all invested in Teacher Shen Fei's kitchen.
It took nearly five hours, fiddling and consulting online with experts. Finally, just before night fell, a sweaty Chen Fei managed to integrate the entire electrical grid of Patan Elementary with the Crystalline Block.
Driving a large tricycle back to Aircrew Base 911, Chen Fei first went to help Mr. Abel in the canteen, handling his night shift part-time job, before returning to his small western-style house.
He took a hot shower and had just changed into a dry, fresh set of clothes when he stepped out of the shower room to see Golden-Eyed Azure-Hearted Civet Er Lang uninvitedly perched on a bar stool trying to open a bottle of homemade apple wine with its paws.
The bar cabinet was divided; one part belonged to Boss Hana, filled with various fine spirits, while another was Chen Fei's, mostly containing homemade fresh fruit wines and a few long-lasting distilled spirits.
Although Boss Hana was very willing to share her fine spirits, as drinking buddies, Chen Fei and Golden-Eyed Azure-Hearted Civet both kept track and never took politeness for granted.
When the owner of the fine liquor was absent, neither man nor Magical Beast would casually touch those high-end items.
Homemade fruit wines, on the other hand, were plentiful and thus less fussy.
"Is it only you today?"
Chen Fei looked around, not seeing Boss Hana's figure. She usually was the earliest to arrive, but surprisingly, Er Lang had managed to get there first this time.
"Don't know, eh? Where's the bottle opener?"
After scratching around for a while, Golden-Eyed Azure-Hearted Civet finally gave up. It could easily sever or smash the mouth of the bottle but couldn't effortlessly twist open the screw-top like humans.
Screw-top caps are designed for humans, not for Golden-Eyed Azure-Hearted Civets.
