Chapter 176: 175 - Unseen Duo
At the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground, several fans in the small stands chanted with yellow and black flags as the chants echoed through the stands, creating a spectacle of passion.
Lucas took a deep breath as he positioned himself in the entrance tunnel with his teammates.
Willian stood next to him, tapping his feet on the floor as if to rid himself of anxiety. He put his hands to his mouth and blew hot air to warm his hands.
"Are you ready, Lucas?" asked Willian with a slightly tense smile.
Lucas smiled back. "A bit cold, but let's go."
The assistant referee's whistle blew, showing that it was time to take the field. Emerging into the stadium, the floodlights illuminated the Brighton players on the closed pitch, showing off the extremely green turf. Opposing fans loudly, almost deafeningly, booed in the enclosed field, but Lucas and the other lads weren't fazed. After seeing the euphoric Dortmund crowd, they weren't easily impressed by another good crowd.
On the bench, Jimenez watched the players intently while Eddie, with his clipboard, exchanged a few quick words with Alex. Everyone knew Brighton was betting big on this formation. They were the current league leaders, but the gap to Chelsea was just one point. If they lost, they could be overtaken as early as this round.
As the players positioned themselves for the start of the game and changed flamingoes, the voices of the commentators echoed over the radios and broadcasts around the country.
"That's a bold formation for Brighton today," said Henry. "Willian and Lucas leading the attack, with Hillebrand, who is a point of origin, in midfield. It's not a formation we're used to seeing, and that could be both a weakness and a secret weapon in Brighton's hand."
"Exactly, Henry." Carol agreed. "Lucas is known for his vision and control in midfield, but putting him further forward is an interesting move. He's shown impressive growth in terms of versatility, and I heard he was a striker in his school team in Japan. The question is: will that be enough against a very physical and well-organized Wolverhampton?"
Lucas could only hear the crowd, and none of his own heartbeat. When the referee started the match, a notification appeared in front of him.

Lucas blinked in surprise, and the ball rolled. It was immediately clear that Brighton attacked. Loki and Aidan pushed forward from the wings, pressuring the Wolverhampton defenders, while Felix and Hillebrand worked to maintain control in the middle.
In the first five minutes, Lucas had already received the ball twice in dangerous positions. He could feel the defenders' eyes on him, watching his every move. It was a physical game, but he was used to it - his experience and intense training against his own teammates had shaped not only his body but also his mentality.
A long pass from Javier found Lucas well positioned on the edge of the penalty area. He controlled the ball with a simple touch, turning quickly to evade the advancing defender. Without hesitating, he looked at Willian, who was running diagonally, and made a low, precise pass that crossed the area like an arrow.
Willian finished with a first touch. The ball bounced into the net.
The stadium fell silent, but that was normal. So the shout for the goal came from the Brighton players themselves.
"Great goal!" shouted Luiz Fernando, raising his arms.
"What a pass, huh? That was perfect!" said Willian, still panting, but with a smile from ear to ear as they ran.
"What a finish, huh!" Lucas said.
"Willian scores a sensational goal, showing impressive coolness and technique. That's a player who knows what he's doing!" narrated Henry.
"And what impresses me most is how calmly he read the situation. He practically hypnotized the defenders and put the ball where the goalkeeper simply couldn't reach it. It's Brighton's second goal and... wait, look at the look on the Wolverhampton players' faces! They're completely lost!" Clara Rodriguez commented.
When the game resumed, Wolverhampton tried to organize a quick response, but the calm and intelligence in Brighton's midfield neutralized any attempt to attack before it developed. Hillebrand, with his vision and impressive agility, had an impressive ability to distribute passes, hold up the ball and, when necessary, cut through the midfield lines with his striker's skills.
Alongside Hillebrand, Javier and Felix formed an almost insurmountable wall.
Javier was the brains of the midfield, always finding unlikely spaces for deep passes, while Felix, with his physical strength and impeccable positioning, recovered balls with ease and started attacks naturally.
The attacking duo of Lucas and Willian also showed an unexpected chemistry. Although neither of them had Arthur's imposing stature, their quick movements and tactical intelligence confused Wolverhampton's defense. They constantly switched positions, dragging defenders out of their comfort zones and creating gaps in the opposition's defensive system.
In the 15th minute, Brighton almost added to their lead. Hillebrand intercepted a pass in the center circle and quickly found Felix, who was already watching Lucas' movement. With a first touch, Felix launched the ball over the defensive line. Lucas ran towards the pass, beating his marker at speed and controlling the ball with his chest just inside the box.
Instead of finishing immediately, Lucas showed patience. He looked at Willian, who was arriving at high speed at the far post, and delivered a low cross with the outside of his foot. Willian stretched, but the opposing goalkeeper deflected the ball with his fingertips, sending it out for a corner.
Brighton's pressure continued to be suffocating. Over the next few minutes, Hillebrand and Javier combined a sequence of quick passes in midfield that left the Wolverhampton players running in circles, unable to keep up.
Loki and Aidan moved up the flanks, stretching the opposition's defense and creating even more space for the attackers.
Finally, in the 23rd minute, Brighton found another opportunity. After a one-two between Hillebrand and Javier, the ball reached Felix, who released Lucas again. This time he didn't look for Willian. Lucas faced the defender, dribbled with a quick cut to his left, and fired a powerful shot from outside the area.
The ball seemed to be guided, but the opposing goalkeeper flew in to make a spectacular save, sending the ball over the crossbar.
The booing from the opposing fans tried to unsettle Brighton, but the players were undeterred.
Lucas' side's dominance was clear, and with each attack it became clearer that Wolverhampton was on the ropes.
"What absurd pressure from Brighton!" exclaimed Carol Rodriguez. "They're playing with an intensity that doesn't allow Wolverhampton a second to breathe."
"And what a performance from Hillebrand in midfield," added Henry. "He's absolutely running the game. It's incredible to see how perfectly he's fitted into this formation. Lucas and Willian, despite not being the main strikers in this team, are creating a nightmare for the opposition defense."
Wolverhampton tried to push forward through the middle, but Felix, ever alert, intercepted a risky pass. He quickly played it back to Hillebrand, who made an impressive run into the center circle. Brighton had space and the opportunity for a quick counter-attack was obvious.
Hillebrand drove the ball quickly, evading a marker with a short touch to the right before lifting his header.
Willian was positioned on the left wing, ready to shoot. Hillebrand made a low, precise pass, putting the ball in front of Willian, who took off with force, leaving the Wolverhampton winger behind and already heading inside.
Meanwhile, Lucas, who was further back in midfield, spotted the move and acted instantly. He shot towards the opposing penalty area, running like lightning. With each stride, he seemed to gain even more speed, as if the pitch was shrinking for him. His vision turned into a tunnel, and he used all the strength he had in his legs.
The fans in the stands murmured, noticing Lucas' presence in the attack.
Willian burst into the box, face to face with the goalkeeper. He had two simple options: shoot or pass to Lucas, who suddenly appeared, positioning himself at the edge of the penalty area.

Willian, however, didn't take his eyes off the goalkeeper. He lifted his right foot and shot a little awkwardly, trying to get it out of the goalkeeper's reach with a shot from the outside of the park, but the ball sailed just wide of the left post and over the end line.
The stadium fell silent for a moment, followed by a collective sigh of frustration. Even the narrator looked incredulous.
"What the hell was that? Willian had Lucas completely free! All he had to do was roll the ball to the side and it would have been a goal. Why did he try to do it on his own?"
Carol didn't hide her disappointment. "Lucas made a sensational run, opened up the perfect space and set himself up as the clearest option. Willian simply ignored that."
"Sheshh! I don't want to imagine what the discussion about that move will be like at half-time!"
