Solo Leveling: Infinite Talent

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Master’s Challenge

The air in the dimly lit room grew heavy, the tension palpable. Mai Lee stood across from the Black Crescent Guild leader, his eyes locked onto the man's every movement. There was no fear, only the sharp clarity of a predator sizing up its prey. He could feel the man's presence, like an overwhelming force pressing against him, but Mai Lee was undeterred.

The guild leader took a step forward, his cloak swirling around him like a dark cloud. "You think you can defeat me? You have no idea who you're up against," the leader said, his voice dripping with arrogance.

Mai Lee tilted his head slightly. "I know exactly who you are. You're the leader of a guild that thrives on power, greed, and manipulation. But your weakness is your overconfidence."

The leader smiled darkly. "Arrogance, you mean. And you're mistaken if you think your talents can match mine." He raised his hand, a surge of energy rippling through the air. "You see, I am more than just a guild leader. I am the embodiment of everything the Black Crescent stands for. Power, influence, and control. And you... you are nothing but a passing threat."

The guild leader's hand flicked, and the shadows around the room seemed to come alive. They twisted and writhed, forming into dark figures that lunged toward Mai Lee.

But Mai Lee was already prepared. The moment the shadows moved, he activated Abyssal Soul Fusion once again. His body blurred as he copied the leader's control over shadows, absorbing the power and using it to counterattack. The shadows that had once moved toward him now obeyed his command, swirling around him like a protective barrier.

Fusion Successful: Talent "Shadow Manipulation" Acquired.

Mai Lee felt the talent fuse perfectly with his current abilities. He could now control the very shadows around him, using them to his advantage. With a thought, the shadows surged forward, attacking the guild leader's summoned creatures with lethal precision.

The leader's eyes widened in shock. "What?! How could you—"

"I told you," Mai Lee's voice was calm, almost detached. "I'm not someone you can underestimate."

With a wave of his hand, Mai Lee directed the shadows to bind the guild leader, wrapping him in dark tendrils that pulled him off the ground. The man struggled, his eyes burning with fury, but Mai Lee's control over the shadows was absolute.

"You're not the only one who can manipulate the darkness," Mai Lee said, his voice colder than before. "I've copied your ability, and now, I'm using it against you."

The guild leader's form writhed, but the shadows only tightened their grip, constricting further. The man's face turned red as he fought to break free, but with each passing second, the tendrils grew stronger, cutting off his movement.

Mai Lee stepped closer, his eyes filled with a quiet resolve. "This ends now. Tell me what I need to know, or I'll have no choice but to make an example of you."

The leader gasped for breath, but there was a defiance in his eyes that didn't fade. "You think you can break me? I am the leader of the Black Crescent. There is no one who can—"

"Tell me where the other guilds are operating," Mai Lee interrupted, his voice calm yet deadly. "Where are the key locations? What are your plans for the future?"

The guild leader's eyes flickered with hesitation, and Mai Lee knew he was on the verge of cracking. But it was only a matter of time before the man would break. Mai Lee's methods had always been efficient, and he didn't need to waste time with idle threats.

Finally, the leader spat, his voice filled with venom. "You'll regret this. The Black Crescent has allies everywhere. Even if you destroy us, you won't be able to stop what's coming."

Mai Lee raised an eyebrow. "Allies? Who?"

The leader's smirk returned, but it was laced with desperation. "You don't know... You think you're the only one who can copy abilities? There are others. And they're far more powerful than you realize."

Mai Lee's heart skipped a beat. The leader's words were a chilling reminder that the world he had entered was far more complex and dangerous than he had imagined. But there was no turning back now. The guild leader had been too valuable a target to let slip away.

With a flick of his wrist, the shadows constricted even tighter, silencing the leader's defiance. "Tell me where to find them, and I'll let you go."

The guild leader's face twisted in pain, but he finally relented, revealing the locations of the guild's operations, and mentioning several other guilds with similar interests—some even more dangerous than the Black Crescent itself.

As the leader's words faded into the darkness, Mai Lee's mind raced. He had learned everything he needed to know. The Black Crescent Guild was just the beginning, and if the guild leader's words were true, there were far bigger threats waiting in the shadows. But for now, he had to finish what he had started.

Mai Lee stood tall as he released the guild leader from the shadows' grip, his body brimming with new power. "This is your last warning," Mai Lee said, his voice cold and unforgiving. "Next time we meet, I won't be so merciful."

The guild leader staggered to his feet, his face pale, but he managed to stand tall, albeit with a broken spirit. "You'll regret underestimating me," he muttered, his voice low but filled with fury.

Mai Lee didn't respond. With a final glance at the defeated leader, he turned and walked away, his mind already focused on the next step of his journey.

He had become stronger—his talents and abilities growing with every encounter. But now, the real challenge began. The world was larger and more treacherous than he had imagined. But Mai Lee had always been a quick learner, and now, he was ready to face whatever came next.
