Chapter 214: The Upheaval of the Top Three Sects · Part Four
"Does the Sea God have any further tasks for the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan? To receive such divine favor only to fulfill such a small task leaves me feeling undeserving," Yu Yuanzhen said.
Ye Wen looked at Yu Yuanzhen with a hint of exasperation. For someone who had once pressured him to mentor Yu Xiaogang, he was certainly acting uncharacteristically earnest. Still, considering the standing of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, it was indeed a bit of a waste to assign them only a minor task.
After a moment's reflection, Ye Wen spoke up, "There is indeed something you could do. I recall that your clan maintains close ties with the military of the Heaven Dou Empire?"
Yu Yuanzhen nodded immediately. Unlike the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect, which only accepted in laws into their core, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's family structure allowed them to marry widely. Given that over half of their members had mutated versions of the clan's dragon spirit, they encouraged unions to maximize the chance of producing strong Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon heirs.
This strategy had fostered extensive connections throughout the empire, including within the military. High ranking military officials, including Heaven Dou's Grand Marshal, Ge Long, were either allies or distant kin of the clan. In fact, according to the clan's records, the Ge family descended from a distant branch of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, giving them a long history of mutual support.
Ye Wen went on, his tone calm but firm, "You're to win over key figures in the Heaven Dou military. When the time is right, I expect them to be ready to change allegiances. You have two years to complete this mission; don't disappoint me. Otherwise, the title of 'Number One Beast Spirit' might have to go to someone else."
With a piercing look, Ye Wen vanished, leaving Yu Yuanzhen dazed. "Infiltrate the military?" he muttered, grappling with the unprecedented request. The Heaven Dou Empire had stood for over two thousand years, as firm as the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan itself. The thought of tampering with its foundation felt impossible, almost absurd.
Watching Yu Yuanzhen's reaction, Ning Fengzhi's eyes lit up with understanding. From Ye Wen's initial directive to stockpile resources, he'd already suspected something monumental was on the horizon. This two year deadline only confirmed it Ye Wen must be preparing to make a move that would turn the entire continent on its head. He glanced at the contemplative Yu Yuanzhen, realizing that if they wished to maintain favor with Ye Wen, they would need to make themselves indispensable. As the others pondered, a covert alliance formed in the dim light of the room, slowly aligning itself with Ye Wen's vision of the future.
Meanwhile, with Yu Xiaogang's arrangements, Tang San began a grueling new training regimen at the Thunderclap Academy. The academy's unique training environment included a lightning field area that, while not as intense as natural thunderbolts, left Tang San with daily residual numbness and exhaustion. Nevertheless, the sting of his recent defeat to Ye Tianshui strengthened his resolve to endure.
"Not enough," he muttered to himself, determination hardening his expression. "I need to become stronger."
Throughout this process, Yu Xiaogang offhandedly mentioned that Tang San's father, Tang Hao, had suggested the lightning training. Moved by this revelation, Tang San thought, "Father still cares deeply about me."
However, Yu Xiaogang himself harbored different feelings, baffled by Tang San's loyalty to such an absentee father. He thought with an air of frustration, "How did a prodigy like Tang San end up so obsessed with a father who abandoned him?"
To Yu Xiaogang, the drawbacks of Thunderclap Academy's environment were obvious. The Thunderclap Clan, despite its lightning based martial spirits, knew all too well the damage prolonged exposure to even artificial lightning could do to one's physical health. For this reason, even their own members limited their time in the field and relied on medicinal baths to counteract the damage to their meridians.
Tang Hao, however, had overlooked this entirely in his push for Tang San to grow stronger a fact that Yu Xiaogang found both perplexing and grimly satisfying. Let Tang Hao dig his own grave, he thought privately. After all, if this misguided training ended up crippling Tang San, Yu Xiaogang could avoid any blame.
Not long after, Tang Hao did indeed catch wind of the toll the training was taking on his son's body. Enraged, he stormed into Yu Xiaogang's quarters, his aura brimming with aggression.
"What's going on with Xiao San?" he demanded.
Feigning confusion, Yu Xiaogang replied, "What do you mean?"
Tang Hao's face darkened as he continued, "This lightning environment is damaging his body, and you're telling me you didn't know?"
Yu Xiaogang barely concealed his disdain as he thought, Here we go again with the intimidation. No wonder you fell so low, Tang Hao.
