Chapter 210: Chapter 210: Family Road Trip (2)
[Third Person's PoV]
"I'll be the one driving," Uncle Ben said, raising his hand.
Peter tossed him the keys with a teasing look. "What? You don't trust me to drive?"
"I trust you to go unnecessarily fast," Uncle Ben scoffed as he caught the keys with one hand. As they headed out, they found MJ waiting for them, one hand in her sweater pocket.
"Yo!" She raised a hand in greeting. After properly saying hello to Aunt May and Uncle Ben, she walked over to Peter and kissed him on the cheek before they all got into the car.
Peter sat in the middle between Gwen and MJ, while Uncle Ben drove with Aunt May in the front. They drove up to Gwen's house and found George Stacy waiting out front.
To make room, Gwen sat up and moved onto Peter's lap while MJ shifted to the middle, and George sat next to her.
"Hey, father-in-law, it's been a minute, hasn't it?" Peter said teasingly.
George gave Peter a deadpan look, then glanced at Gwen on Peter's lap. "You didn't come home last night."
"I was, uh… over at Peter's," Gwen said, blushing and looking away, unable to meet her father's eyes.
"I figured as much… Imagine coming home from work and not seeing your daughter when you go to tuck her into bed," George replied.
Gwen glared. "I'm 15, almost 16. I don't need to be tucked into bed."
"Pfft," Peter covered his mouth, which earned him an elbow from Gwen. "Shut it," she muttered.
George let out a sigh. "Oh, how fast they grow…"
"Please stop," Gwen groaned. "Don't make me regret inviting you."
George raised a hand in surrender. "I'm just saying, it would be nice to come home one day and find you resting in bed when you're supposed to be… alone," he said, pointedly glancing at Peter.
MJ sat quietly, hands on her lap, trying not to get involved in their exchange.
A few minutes later...
Using Aria as a navigation system, they were led to the hideout. The wall in front of them flickered as they drove into the subway tunnel. George turned to Peter and said, "Now I know why we've never been able to find you."
Peter grinned proudly. "Yeah, I'm very good at covering our tracks."
After parking the car, Peter began to guide them through the base. "Bienvenido a Casa de Araña—welcome to the House of Spiders," he said, spreading his arms wide.
"I thought we were calling it the Spider Cave?" MJ asked, tilting her head in confusion.
"I'm just throwing names out there to see which one sticks," Peter explained.
George, Ben, and May looked around in awe as Peter showed them everything.
"This is insane," Uncle Ben muttered, unable to stop looking around.
"Tell me about it," George added, equally fascinated. "Are some of these things even legal?"
"Don't worry about the legality of things," Peter said, waving off George's concern.
"Excuse me? Just because it's my day off doesn't mean I stop being a cop. I'll always worry about the legality of things," George said, narrowing his eyes at Peter suspiciously.
"Uh… anyway, this is where we showcase our suits in commemoration of all the ones we've made," Peter said, motioning towards the large display cases, sweat slowly dripping from his forehead.
George continued to stare at Peter, narrowing his eyes but letting it go for the moment.
Just then, Bruce Banner appeared, wearing a lab coat and his usual glasses, hands in his pockets. "Oh, Peter, you're here. I take it you invited them to see the launch?"
"Yeah, I wanted you to meet my Uncle Ben and Aunt May. And this here is my future father-in-law. Everyone, meet Bruce Banner, a scientist," Peter said, introducing them.
Bruce shook their hands as George Stacy looked at him with narrowed eyes. "You're that Bruce Banner, aren't you?"
Bruce adopted an awkward expression as he scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, Peter's giving me a place to lay low for a bit until I can handle my… problem."
Bruce's neck turned slightly green, and his head twisted slightly as he grimaced. "Hulk isn't the problem. Banner is the problem."
Aunt May, Uncle Ben, and George stared at Bruce, speechless.
Bruce rubbed the back of his head, embarrassed. "Sorry, he does that sometimes…"
Just then, Harry, Lizzy, Felix, and Felicia appeared. Harry raised his hands and exclaimed, "Let's send something into space! Woo woo!" before freezing at the sight of everyone and looking away in embarrassment.
Aunt May hugged Felix upon seeing him. "You haven't come to visit! You should come over more often!"
George leaned over to Uncle Ben, confused. "So, who's that? And why is May so familiar with him?"
Uncle Ben leaned closer and whispered, "That's Peter's kid from the future."
"Huh!?" George asked, eyes wide. "As in Gwen's and Peter's kid from the future?"
"Yeah, no… more like Peter and the girl next to Felix," Uncle Ben said with an awkward expression.
"What?" George growled.
"I'll… explain it later," Uncle Ben said, exasperated, thinking, 'Peter, I'm going to actually kill you for putting me in this situation.'
"What's everyone standing around for? Let's go see that satellite," Peter said smugly, marching ahead and trying to ignore the conversation he'd overheard between Uncle Ben and George.
Peter led them to a room where a short but thick blue and red satellite rested on a large table.
Uncle Ben tilted his head in confusion. "Isn't it kind of small to be a proper satellite?"
Aunt May nodded in agreement. "When you mentioned building a satellite, I was expecting something larger."
"It's not the size that matters but how you use it," Peter said, trying to sound wise.
"Ha!" Felicia chuckled.
Aunt May slapped him on the back. "Peter!" she chastised.
"Sorry, sorry. But it's actually bigger than this; it's in a compressed state right now. When we take it out, you'll see how big this bad boy truly is," Peter said proudly, hoisting it over his shoulder with one hand. "Shall we get going?" he asked.
Everyone nodded, and they made their way to an available vehicle. Peter placed the satellite in the trunk.
Bruce drove one of the cars with Betty by his side, while Uncle Ben drove another. Harry and Felix chose to ride motorcycles.
They sped off from the hideout, traveling out of the city and into an open field, far from civilization. As they stepped out of their vehicles, everyone stretched after the long ride. Ben and George then retrieved the satellite from the trunk.
"Woah!" they both grunted. "This is heavier than it looks," George said, surprised by the weight that Peter had carried so easily.
They set it down, and Peter said, "Now, press the button near your finger, father-in-law."
George shot him a look. "Stop calling me that."
Peter shrugged. "Just calling you George sounds weird and disrespectful."
"Then call me Mr. Stacy."
"Too formal," Peter retorted.
George rolled his eyes and pressed the button. He and Uncle Ben took a few steps back as the satellite began to expand, growing taller and bulkier until it reached about 10 meters in height.
"Woah…" most of them muttered, amazed by the transformation.
"Now, who would like to do the honors?" Peter asked, pulling a tablet from the car.
"Oooh, can I do it?" Aunt May asked excitedly.
Peter handed her the tablet with a weird look.
"What?" she asked, taking it. "I'd like to send something into space too, alright? Don't judge me."
Peter raised his hands in surrender. "I'm not saying anything."
He guided her through the process. "Press this part and then slide it all the way up."
Aunt May's fingers moved eagerly over the control panel. Thrusters appeared at the base of the satellite.
"Shall we do a countdown?" Aunt May asked, her eyes gleaming.
Peter chuckled. "Hell yeah, we should!"
"TEN!"
"NINE!"
"EIGHT!"
"SEVEN!"
"SIX!"
"FIVE!"
"FOUR!"
"THREE!"
"TWO!"
"ONE!"
Aunt May pressed the big red button with a wide grin. "And blast off," she whispered.
The roar of the rockets filled the air as the satellite lifted off, leaving a trail of smoke as it soared into the sky. Everyone's gaze followed it until it disappeared into the clouds. Peter tapped an icon on the tablet, projecting a holographic image of the satellite as it ascended.
"Activate cloaking system," Peter ordered Aria. The satellite turned invisible, though it remained visible on the hologram as it sped through the sky.
Numbers showing its altitude appeared beside the holographic display.
"It's breaching the atmosphere," Peter reported.
They watched as the satellite reached the weightlessness of space, the vastness of the universe stretching out before them, leaving everyone in awe.
"Ladies and gentlemen, launch has been a success," Peter said, snapping his fingers smugly.
