Chapter 88: Into the Heart of Darkness
Chapter 88: Into the Heart of Darkness
The night felt suffocating, as if the very air was thick with danger. Peter couldn't shake the feeling that the world was closing in on him, tightening like the grip of an invisible hand. Venom's words haunted him, echoing in his mind like a constant, nagging reminder that whatever was happening, whatever Project Genesis was, it was bigger than anything he had ever faced.
"Oscorp," Peter muttered to himself, his voice barely a whisper as he and Harry made their way through the darkened streets. The city around them was alive with its usual sounds—distant car engines, the murmur of people out late, the occasional siren—but Peter's mind was elsewhere. He couldn't focus on anything but the danger that loomed ahead.
They had no time to waste.
"I know a way into Oscorp's main facility," Harry said, his tone sharp and determined. "There's a back entrance I used to access when I worked there. It's off the grid, and it won't be on any security logs. We'll have a few minutes, maybe less, to get in and out before anyone notices."
Peter nodded, his fingers tightening around the web-shooters on his wrists. The plan seemed simple, but nothing ever went according to plan when it came to Oscorp. With Venom on the loose, it felt like everything was spiraling out of control. But there was no turning back now. They had to act fast.
"Do you know what we're walking into?" Peter asked, his voice laced with concern. "We don't have much time to figure out what Project Genesis actually is."
Harry hesitated for a moment, his face shadowed by the dim light of a nearby streetlamp. "I don't know everything. But I know enough to tell you that it's bad, Pete. Oscorp's been working on something… something that could change everything. They've been developing weapons, technology, and biological agents, but Project Genesis… I think it's the next step. It's bigger than all that. And Venom… he's part of it."
Peter's heart sank at the mention of Venom. The symbiote was clearly more than just a powerful enemy—it was a key player in whatever nightmare Oscorp was orchestrating.
The two of them continued their trek through the city, their steps quick and quiet as they made their way toward the secluded back entrance. As they approached Oscorp's towering headquarters, the imposing building seemed to loom above them like a dark monolith, its sharp, gleaming lines cutting through the night sky. The building was a symbol of power, of wealth, and of danger. Peter had fought against its shadow before, but tonight, it felt different. Tonight, they were about to face the heart of the beast.
"Here," Harry said, gesturing to a small, unmarked door at the side of the building. "This is where we go in. It's heavily reinforced, but it's not as secure as the main entrances. We'll have a few minutes before the alarms go off."
Peter took a deep breath. "Alright. Let's do this."
They moved quickly, Harry using his access code to open the door. The door creaked open, revealing a dimly lit hallway that led deep into the bowels of the building. They stepped inside, the sound of their footsteps muffled by the sterile silence. It was unnerving. Oscorp was known for its high-tech security systems, but this place was eerily quiet. Almost as if it was waiting for something.
The hallway was lined with offices, rooms filled with monitoring equipment, and dark, empty corridors that stretched endlessly. They passed a few guards along the way, but Harry knew how to stay out of sight, and they managed to slip past unnoticed.
After what felt like an eternity, they arrived at a heavy, reinforced door. Harry approached a keypad, quickly typing in a series of codes. The door clicked open, and they stepped inside.
"What is this?" Peter muttered, his eyes scanning the room. The walls were lined with screens, blinking lights, and rows of strange, futuristic equipment. There were tanks filled with strange, bubbling liquids, and large, metallic pods in the corners. It looked like something out of a science fiction movie, but Peter knew better. This was Oscorp's reality.
Harry quickly moved to one of the terminals, accessing the system with ease. "This is where they're doing the real work," he said, his fingers flying across the keyboard. "I've been here a few times, but I never realized the full scope of it until now. They've been working on some kind of… biological project. I don't know all the details, but it's connected to Venom. He's part of their experiments. They were trying to create a symbiotic weapon, and they succeeded."
Peter's stomach twisted in disgust. "They created Venom?" His voice was low, barely above a whisper. "And they're using him as a weapon?"
Harry nodded grimly. "That's what it looks like. But it's bigger than that, Pete. Project Genesis is some kind of catalyst—a way to activate and control Venom, to turn him into an army. They've been developing a serum, something that will amplify the symbiote's abilities. They don't just want one Venom. They want a whole army of them."
Peter's heart raced. This wasn't just about defeating one enemy. This was about stopping an invasion—an army of creatures like Venom, each one more powerful and destructive than the last. And if Oscorp succeeded in their plan, the world would be plunged into chaos.
"We need to destroy this place," Peter said, his voice firm. "We can't let them complete Project Genesis."
Harry looked at him, his expression serious. "I agree. But we're not the only ones who know about this place. Venom's already been here. If he's not on his way right now, I'd be shocked."
Peter didn't need any further convincing. They had to act fast. With Harry's help, Peter hacked into the mainframe, quickly finding the files on Project Genesis. As they downloaded the data, a loud, mechanical hum filled the room, followed by the unmistakable sound of heavy footsteps.
"Time's up," Peter muttered, his hand instinctively reaching for his web-shooters. "We need to get out of here. Now."
Before they could make it to the exit, the lights flickered and a voice boomed through the speakers.
"You thought you could hide from me?" Venom's voice echoed in the empty hallways, sending chills down Peter's spine. "I am everywhere. I am always watching. And you will never escape."
Peter's heart pounded as the ground beneath them shook. Venom was here.
"Go!" Harry shouted, urging Peter forward. "We have to get out, now!"
They sprinted toward the exit, but it was too late. Venom appeared before them, blocking the door, his massive form towering over them.
"I told you," Venom snarled, his voice dripping with venomous malice. "You cannot escape me."
Peter squared off against him, his fists clenched, his resolve firm. "You may be strong, but you're not invincible. I'm taking you down."
Venom's grin widened, his red eyes gleaming with malice. "We'll see about that."
The battle for the fate of the world was about to begin.
