Chapter 91: Chapter 91 Bankai: The Temperature At The Center Of The Sun

Old Man Yamamoto was rarely ever this angry.

As the strongest Shinigami in the last thousand years, this was the first time in centuries he had been so humiliated—right in front of all the Shinigami in the Seireitei.

He had just been sent flying thousands of meters by a human boy, someone far younger and supposedly far weaker than him.

It was beyond embarrassing.

What made it worse was what he had said earlier—bragging that he was the most powerful Shinigami in the past millennium, and that no one could defeat him.

Now, looking back, those words only made him seem arrogant. And in a way, they proved Qiye right. He was being careless, and now he was paying for it.

"Don't get too cocky this time," Qiye said with a smirk, his eyes burning with excitement.

He was actually looking forward to this fight with the Head Captain. After all, in the original story, Yamamoto was seen as the peak of Shinigami power.

This time, Yamamoto didn't hold back. With his flaming Ryūjin Jakka, he stepped forward and slashed down hard.

Qiye didn't flinch. Controlling his Kamui Susanoo, he charged forward, meeting the attack head-on.

The moment their blades collided, a blinding white shockwave exploded from the clash, tearing through the surroundings like a tsunami.

"Just the wind pressure from their fight is... AHHH!!!" Rukia screamed.

The blast knocked her off her feet.

"Got you," said Byakuya Kuchiki calmly, grabbing her arm before she flew off. He looked ahead at the battle and said without emotion, "Release your Zanpakutō. Otherwise, you won't even survive the aftermath of this level of combat."

"Yes, brother…" Rukia nodded quickly and drew her blade.

"Dance, Sode no Shirayuki!"

Her simple Zanpakutō transformed into a beautiful white blade, elegant and wrapped in cold air—Sode no Shirayuki, known as the most graceful of all Zanpakutō.

With her sword released, Rukia's spiritual pressure surged, and she finally managed to stay on her feet.

Byakuya let go of her arm and continued watching the clash in front of them. He spoke in a calm tone:

"You chose a good man. The fact that he can fight the Captain-Commander like this shows his potential."

"But that guy is unpredictable. You'll need to train hard, or you won't even be able to match his maid…"

He paused for a moment, then added:

"From today on, I won't oppose whatever happens between you two. But if you're thinking about having a child, it's best to wait until he dies and comes to the Soul Society…"

"Brother!!!"

Rukia's face turned bright red as she cut him off, quickly explaining, "You've got it all wrong! Qiye and I are just friends—nothing like that is going on!"

"Really?" Byakuya's expression didn't change. "Then you should be careful. From what I've seen, a lot of women are interested in him."

"For example, Captain Unohana seems really obsessed with him…"

"Then there's Shihouin Yoruichi—the 'cat demon.' He teases her constantly, and she actually listens to him…"

"And that maid of his—she might be a Hollow, but I don't think there's any biological barrier between her and humans. She's extremely loyal to him…"

"BROTHER?!" Rukia stared at him in disbelief, wondering what had just come out of his mouth.

"Why do you know so much about this stuff?!"

Byakuya was silent.

The corner of his mouth twitched slightly, but he said nothing and turned back to watch the fight with his usual cold expression.

He didn't continue the conversation.

Rukia slowly looked away too, though inside, the serious, cool image she had of her brother was now completely shattered.

But she wasn't thinking about that for long. She bit her lower lip and placed a hand over her heart, her cheeks flushed.

Her heart was beating fast.

"Marry... and have children…" she muttered, looking at Qiye again with a blush. She also glanced at the other women nearby—both Shinigami and Hollows.

Unohana Retsu was staring at the Kamui Susanoo in the sky with intense admiration.

Harribel was clenching her teeth, but her eyes were fixed on it too.

Shihouin Yoruichi had arrived quietly and was watching the battle, a look of worry on her face.

Sui-Feng was also glaring up at the Susanoo with fierce eyes.

Seeing this, Rukia felt something she hadn't experienced before. Not the fear of battle—but nervousness. A deep unease.

"I… I don't think I can beat them…"

Yoruichi had no idea what was going through the girls' minds.

And even if she did, it wouldn't have mattered right now—because she, like everyone else, was focused on the intense battle.

Qiye's Kamui Susanoo continued swinging its massive sword, every strike strong enough to shatter the Sōkyoku.

Even just the shockwaves from the fight had left huge cracks in the ground—like someone had torn open a canyon.

And yet, despite that overwhelming power...

Old Man Yamamoto was still managing to hold his own.

Despite being far smaller than the towering Susanoo, Old Man Yamamoto stood firm against its violent attacks.

Qiye realized that the only reason Yamamoto could handle this much power was because of his overwhelming Reiatsu. That spiritual pressure strengthened his body far beyond normal limits.

"Even so… you're still too much of a monster!" Qiye shouted, swinging his sword again with frustration.

Yamamoto's face was dark with anger. He wasn't proud of this fight—he felt humiliated. He responded by thrusting his sword upward.

BOOM!!

Another massive shockwave exploded from their clash.

Qiye grew more and more frustrated. What he didn't know, however, was that all the Shinigami across the Seireitei were already stunned by his performance.

Elsewhere in the Seireitei…

Kira Izuru, watching the distant battle, rubbed his eyes in disbelief. "Unreal… they're holding their ground against the Captain. That human, Ryūho... what a monster."

Standing beside him, Hisagi Shūhei said with a dry voice, "It really is unbelievable."

"They've already clashed hundreds of times."

"And that's against the Captain—the strongest Shinigami of the past thousand years…"

These kinds of conversations echoed all across the Seireitei.

Everyone was in complete shock over what Nanaya was doing.

This was far more shocking than when he defeated the other captains.

Sure, the other squad captains were powerful, but nobody thought they were invincible. After all, many had come and gone over the past thousand years.

But the Captain-Commander, Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni—he had always been the strongest since any of them could remember. For a thousand years, he'd never had an equal.

To most of them, Yamamoto wasn't just a captain—he was a living legend, an unbeatable force.

And today, that legend was being challenged.

He was in a fierce battle, even being pushed back by Qiye's Susanoo.

The myth of a thousand years—shaken in a single day.

"You stubborn old man! You're such a freak!" Qiye growled, clenching his teeth.

He unleashed the full power of the Gedo Statue and his Hollow form at once.

Then, he swung his strongest sword strike yet.

The power behind it tore open the space around them, slicing through the air itself.

Yamamoto's expression changed, but he didn't retreat. His arms tensed, muscles bulging, as he raised his sword to block.

BOOM!!!

The shock from the clash sent Yamamoto stumbling back—two full steps.

The crowd watching was stunned.

It was the first time anyone had ever seen Yamamoto retreat.

"No way... the old man actually stepped back?!" Kyoraku Shunsui said in disbelief.

For Yamamoto to be forced back in front of everyone—it meant one thing.

He had been overpowered, even if only slightly.

That didn't mean Yamamoto was weak—far from it.

Long ago, even when Shunsui and Ukitake had teamed up against just his Shikai form, they had still lost.

"That's why he's known as the strongest Shinigami in a thousand years," Qiye muttered to himself. "I was a bit arrogant."

He sighed and gave a slight shake of his head.

"I only had the upper hand at the beginning because he wasn't serious. Let's end it here for today. I'll fight you another time."

Even though he hadn't defeated Yamamoto, Qiye wasn't too discouraged.

After all, Yamamoto had lived for over a thousand years.

He had more experience, more Reiatsu, more everything. Losing to someone like that wasn't shameful.

Yamamoto, though, didn't see it that way.

The veins on his forehead bulged as he stared at Qiye with fury.

You think you can hit me a few times and walk away? Shameless brat!

Seething with anger, Yamamoto took a deep breath and growled:

"Yes… as a human, you're the strongest I've ever faced. So, as a sign of respect, I will fight you using my Bankai."

"This is the Shinigami's ultimate power. Prepare yourself!"

"Don't die from my next attack!"

Then, as Qiye stared in disbelief, Yamamoto raised his sword. Flames burst around him, burning with unimaginable heat as he roared:

"Bankai!!!"

"Zanka no Tachi!!!"
