Star Wars: The Rise of New Order

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Padawan

Ayla took Jayden to formally register him as her Padawan. The registration is quite important, as Padawans have certain privileges that younglings lack, especially when leaving the temple without any supervision.

The younglings, once they have entered the temple, can't leave the temple unless they are taken out by a knight or someone above.

Padawans, on the other hand, have the right to leave the temple whenever they want to, but they have to record their departure and their destination. This was not just for Padawans but also for Knights and Masters.

Even Yoda has to record where he was going.

This is not because the temple wants to control them, more like where to look for them if they went missing or quickly contact them if they were needed.

The galaxy is very huge, which means one needs to know where the other one is, at least approximately, to raise them on their communicators.

Communication can't just be relayed because they have the same frequency communicators. Depending on the distance, there was a need for relays to have a chat with them. They are spread in all directions.

One has to know which direction they were, to know which relays they need to use to communicate.

Random choices of signal relays would mean a weak signal and time delay during communication.

In fact, it would be almost impossible to raise someone if their approximate location were not known. It would take a lot of time to find the correct station to find the recipient, unless lucky.

---

The registration was done within half an hour. Once it was done, Jayden was given his own token and a communicator.

The token can be used to enter and leave the temple. This was to prevent unauthorised entry into the temple. Unless you are a famous person that a lot of people know, you would need the token to enter the temple.

Many of the Jedi Masters and Knights are known at least inside the Order, which makes them easy to enter without showing their token to the guards.

The communicator is not just a way to communicate, but also acts as a distress beacon if anything happens to the wearer. Using the beacon, rescuers can find them and save them if possible.

In addition to that, he would be given Jedi Robes, which are for Padawans. Since he was young, and Padawans would be around 15 or higher usually, the clothes would be large. So, the tailors took his measurements.

Jayden, of course, added a small change to these robes. Unlike normal Jedi cloaks, he wanted something similar to Dooku's. Of course, he still kept the hood, which gives protection from identification during any infiltration missions.

Also, he changed the colour of the robes to be Dark Blue, which would appear quite regal when compared to the faded colours of normal Jedi Robes.

Ayla saw this but said nothing.

As Jayden's master, her duty was to show him the path he had to walk. Whether he would walk or not, that would be his choice.

Though the Jedi Council members were quite strict and would punish if they saw someone walk a path that was not approved by the Order, she was not as strict as they were.

Though she agreed with most of their rules, she was not satisfied with some of their rulings, especially how they acted as if they were the dogs of the senate.

She always thought that Jedi serve the Force, and by extension, the galaxy and its inhabitants. It was what Jedi of the Old used to do, though there were some stupid rules even among them.

The Jedi started to work as the guards of the corrupt politicians and their benefits.

One such situation was what happened a few years ago, during the Battle of Galidraan. Jedi stupidly associated themselves in that conflict, without any proper investigation.

Many innocent people died in that war.

Though Dooku later found out the truth, the Republic chose to bury the truth, to which the order complied. This was not a lone incident. There are multiple incidents such as these, which some of the Jedi started to hate.

This made the council tighten its grip on everyone. They fear that, if thoughts were allowed, it could cause a schism as it did a few times before, which led to the formation of the Sith in the first place, followed by centuries of war.

It was ironic, as Jedi and Republic stand for freedom and justice, but recently, those two are the least available commodities.

"Maybe the order needs some change", Ayla muttered to herself.

Though this was not a major change, Ayla felt that the Jedi became too plain. Jedi or not, one has the right to enjoy their lives. There was no reason one had to forget about their lives in order to serve the force.

---

Once everything was taken care of, Ayla took Jayden to a training hall.

"I know that you are good at Lightsaber Arts, and I can say that you want to learn Force Skills other than those basic ones, which most can do", Ayla stated.

Jayden nodded, agreeing with what she said.

"Okay, but let's first check how good you are before I can create a plan to officially start your training as my Padawan", she said as she drew her lightsaber, to which Jayden smiled and pulled his lightsaber.
